Synopsis

For Sean Wright, driving a cab in the tiny Navy town of Anchor Point isn’t an exciting job . . . until he picks up just-dumped Paul Richards. A drive turns into a walk on the pier, which turns into the hottest hookup Sean’s had in ages.
After a long overdue breakup, Paul can’t believe his luck. Of all the drivers, he’s picked up by the gorgeous, gay, and very willing Sean. Younger guys aren’t usually his thing, but Paul can’t resist.
One taste and neither man can get enough . . . right up until they realize that Paul is Sean’s father’s commanding officer and the last man Sean should be involved with.
With two careers on the line, their only option is to back off. It’s not easy, though; the sex and the emotional connection are exactly what both men have been craving for a long time. But Paul has devoted twenty-four years to his career and his dream of making admiral. If he’s caught with Sean, that’s all over. He has to choose—stay the course, or trade it all for the man who drove off with his heart.

Review

L.A. Witt writes some of the best books I’ve read. She is a diverse writer who is always surprising me with the scope of her stories. Even though Just Drive is contemporary story it is one she gave her twist to it...and not just because of the always hot sex scenes she can write.

One night stand leads to more when Sean and Paul can’t get enough of each other. As such things happen emotions grow the more time they spend together. By the time they find out the big obstacle standing in their way it’s too late. Being apart hurts and being together is dangerous for Paul’s career and for Sean’s father as well.

Sean is this young guy who has travelled with his father, an officer in the Navy, for basically his whole life. He knows the emotional toll is can take to live that life, he’s done it. The people and places that he has left behind are plenty. Now he just wants Paul. The age difference make no difference. But he just can’t do it. Ruin both his father’s and Paul’s hard won careers? No. But what can he do when he has finally found his other half?

Paul has worked and sacrificed and hurt people along the way on his path to Admiral. His life goal is there. Within reach...maybe. He thinks that Sean is just the distraction he needs after his break up. Jumping in bed with someone new always helps heal the hurt of a breakup. But Sean turns out to be more than Paul bargained for. Does he give up his goal of Admiral for love?

I felt for Sean in this story so much. He gave up so much for his Dad’s career. Even being second best to the Navy when it came to his Dad. He finds something in this town and in Paul that he doesn’t want to give up. His hurt was palpable. Having yet again give up his wants for his Dad brings out so much past hurt that it was hard to see where father and son could find common ground again.

Paul also gave me the sense that he was tired. Tired of the life he was leading, the obstacles that he has to jump to get his own ship and Admiral, tired of hurting himself and others. But you could see the difference in him when he was with Sean. He was happy and distracted and just craved this connection to Sean. One that he hadn’t had in all the men he had ever been with.

A lot of the beginning of their relationship was just sex. HOT sex. Car sex. Gotta-have-you-now sex. Do-I-trust-you-enough-to-go-bareback sex. But as the one-stand night took a turn to the emotional side of things you could see the warmth of who they were to each other. The hearts and love took time to grow. Took time for them to acknowledge it but I liked that part the best. I love the slow burn of the emotional part even when the sex is pedal to the metal.  As hot as these two guys were together for me it was more hot chocolate on a cold night heat then fireworks on Fourth of July heat.

Perfect start to a new series! And I am looking forward to book two, Afraid to Fly.

About L.A. Witt

L.A. Witt is an abnormal M/M romance writer who has finally been released from the purgatorial corn maze of Omaha, Nebraska, and now spends her time on the southwestern coast of Spain. In between wondering how she didn’t lose her mind in Omaha, she explores the country with her husband, several clairvoyant hamsters, and an ever-growing herd of rabid plot bunnies. She also has substantially more time on her hands these days, as she has recruited a small army of mercenaries to search South America for her nemesis, romance author Lauren Gallagher, but don’t tell Lauren. And definitely don’t tell Lori A. Witt or Ann Gallagher. Neither of those twits can keep their mouths shut . . .
