 Synopsis

How do you find love when someone doesn’t want you to be happy?

Patrick Edwards is dealing with a double whammy. Unwanted attention from his housemate’s boyfriend is making him feel uncomfortable in his own home, and he’s facing uncertainty with his employment as an administrative assistant at the local elementary school. He finally breathes a sigh of relief when a friend puts him in contact with Simon, who has a vacant room.

Simon Dawson is a paramedic who doesn’t hesitate to help Patrick. After all, no one should live in a house where they don’t feel safe. Simon develops feelings for Patrick, but doesn’t act on them—Patrick’s moved from a bad situation and doesn’t need his new housemate hitting on him. However, a weekend away changes everything when Simon realizes Patrick returns his feelings.

But someone doesn’t want Patrick and Simon to be happy. A series of strange letters arrive at the house, and things will get a lot worse before the two men get their happily ever after.

Patrick's Savior is a novel of approximately 69k words. It is part of a series but can be read stand-alone.

Review

Patrick's Savior is book three in Nic Starr's Heroes series. It is absolutely a standalone so don't feel you are missing anything if you read this one first.

I love this series. Ever since Charlie's Hero I have loved each one and Patrick's Savior is no exception! When it opens up we already feel Patrick's unease. He's living in a home he doesn't feel safe in. His roommate's boyfriend is a creeper and Patrick wants out.

Simon, who works with Josh (remember him?) decides to help out and tell Simon of Patrick's need to live somewhere else. Simon already thinks Patrick is adorable and eagerly steps in to help out. Crisis averted, right? Wrong!

As Patrick and Simon's love blossoms so do the weird letter from a stalker and it gets more and more dangerous as the story progresses. This is a whodunit with some good suspense. I will admit I did figure it out fairly quickly but I loved watching them all to try and figure it out. And can I say the "bad person" is written really well. I felt their crazy flying out of the pages.

I loved that this story wasn't just a romance. It was an edge of your seat story that made you want to read faster and faster to see what would happen. There were times where it became way too much and I was so scared for all the character.

I can see where another book can come into play and I really wonder if the author will explore that.
If you haven't read these books you absolutely must!

 Excerpt

“This is heaven,” Patrick sighed. The hot water swirled around his body, and the tension further dissipated.
“Hmmm,” Simon mumbled through the cloud of steam that rose from the water and enclosed them in their own little world.
There was a feeling of weightlessness as the buoyancy of the water supported Patrick’s limbs, and the sense of total relaxation was welcome. The steam cleared a little, and Patrick looked through the wisps at Simon.
“It’s like a different world up here,” Simon said, as he gazed at the sky above them. “Quiet. Peaceful.”
Patrick followed Simon’s gaze and stared at the darkness beyond. He wondered whether Simon was referring to the quietness of the environment or the escape from the drama Patrick seemed to introduce into their lives. Patrick looked back at Simon, who met his gaze and smiled. Whatever it was, Patrick was glad Simon was unwinding. He deserved some time out from the pressures of his day-to-day life.
Simon closed his eyes and rested his head against the edge of the Jacuzzi. His long arms were stretched out at each side, the muscles corded and glistening. Water droplets? Sweat? Suddenly Patrick wanted to know. He imagined running his fingers from wrist to elbow, his tongue from elbow to shoulder, tasting Simon, and finally nuzzling into the crook of his neck.
Holy fuck. He became aware of his own body as it responded to his errant thoughts, the urgent pressure in his groin.
He raised his gaze to Simon's handsome face and was met with a smirk, just a lazy half smile as Simon held his stare. The steam swirled and Patrick blinked, breaking the spell that had held him mesmerized.
His heart rate increased and his throat grew dry. It was now or never.
"Simon," he started, "have you ever...." He trailed off, unsure what to say. Maybe having this conversation when his body was throbbing with need wasn't the best idea. He pressed the heel of his palm into his erection, then snatched his hand away.
“Yeah?” Simon prompted.
Patrick mustered his courage. I can do this. "Can I ask you something?"
"Sure."
"I just wondered why we've never...." Patrick waved his hand in the air. "You know. Why haven't we ever got together?" He looked down at the swirling water, unable to maintain eye contact. Patrick took a deep breath of chlorine-tainted air, and raised his head. Simon looked at him with wide eyes. Shit. I hope I haven't made a mistake.
