Synopsis

Everything’s bigger in Texas, including weddings. And misunderstandings.

Colorado wedding planner Mason O’Reilly lands a major contract: a two-hundred-guest wedding at the Leanin’ N Ranch, where his friends Ford and Stoney are working to provide a safe space for GLBT events. The Wright/Preston ceremony is a destination wedding, and as the grooms are from Texas, everything is done over the phone and email. There’s no way that could lead to trouble, right?

Oops.

Oil tycoon Noah Wright isn’t happy about the impending disaster, but he admires Mason’s quick thinking and grace under pressure. And that’s not all he likes about the out-and-proud wedding planner. Even though Mason’s interested in Noah, his Mr. Right can’t possibly be a rancher from Dallas.

Can he?

Review

As a reader I love B.A.’s writing and her stories usually catch me and suck me into loving every character. Unfortunately, I feel like her Dreamspun series' books don’t hold the same candle as her non Dreamspun books.

For me, there was too much telling and not enough showing when it came to the development of the relationship between Mason and Noah. We saw them together and yes they had chemistry but when at 60% one was thinking they loved the other I had no idea why I couldn’t feel it or hadn’t seen it. Since the two spent so much time apart just texting more of those conversations should’ve been shown to the reader and not just told. It was those places, those times that apparently (I assume) these two fell for each other.

There were many inconsistencies as well. Noah’s sister was this nice-ish spoiled brat of a woman getting married at her brother's expense (ok he’s a billionaire but damn with the greedy) who on top of getting everything she wanted for her wedding she asked for more and off Mason and Noah to get it. She had times where she was so needy for her brother’s attention she took him away from Mason; even once arguing with him that he shouldn’t be “canoodling” since he’s paying him for the event. Then all of a sudden she’s telling him not to let Mason go and blah blah blah. It felt so out of character for her to suddenly be responsible and given that, it threw me. Then the fact that his mom was a total douche canoe to Mason and Noah did nothing, said nothing to her. He said he should. He thought about it. But in the end he said nothing. So for me it felt inconsistent with who he was and turned out to be unresolved.

I loved the two guys and I think the story had great potential but there were too many things that took me out of the story and irritated me and I was unable to move past them. I’m not giving up on this writer because she has written some wonderful stories that I absolutely love such as Best New Artist.
