Synopsis

Mob enforcer Ceaton Mercer has killed a lot of people in a lot of different ways - he stashed the last two bodies in a toolshed belonging to a sweetheart marine researcher in an idyllic island community - but he's really not such a bad guy. Over time he's found a home of sorts, and he even learns he's found a place in the hearts of the people he works with...at least enough so that they won't put a bullet in his head because he's outlived his usefulness to the boss.

But he never thought he'd find one day could change his life, and he's about to discover how wrong he is.

Because in a single day, he meets the man who looks to be the one, the love of his life. It's an improbable idea - a man who deals in death finding love - but it's like it's meant to be. That single day gets weirder and troubles pile up, forcing Ceaton to take a hard look at his dreary life and accept that one day can change everything, especially himself. His future might be brighter than he expects - if he can stay alive long enough to find out.

Review

If you were going to take a poll of the readers of the MM genre and ask them which author has mastered not only first person single POV but insta-love as well and I guarantee that 9 times out of 10 the answer will be the incomparable Mary Calmes. There really is no author out there, whether in the MM genre or in romance in general that has completely made this writing style her own quite like Queen Mary. In her new release, A Day Makes, Mary has done it once again and delivered one hell of a story and memorable characters that will become among your favorites for sure.

We've got mob enforcer with a heart of gold Ceaton Mercer right off the bat. Like all of Mary's books, the reader is thrown right into the story like we've been a part of things the whole time. There are very few authors who can introduce a plethora of characters from the get go and have the reader feel like we already know the main players. Not only are there a myriad of people to keep track of, but Mary goes back and forth from the present to the past to give us a clear picture as to who this Ceaton fella is and what he's all about. We meet Pravi, Marko, and Luka as well as mob boss Grigor. We see how Ceaton becomes a killer and what and how he deals with this.

As with any Mary Calmes book, you have to do a fair bit of suspending belief and just roll with it, but trust me when I say, you will love the ride. This is a bit of a slow burn book, but once we get to meet "the one", you'll be swooning all over the place. I don't want to say too much and spoil anything because this is just such a fun, entertaining ride that you'll want to savor every delicious word. Truly, just sit back and watch Mary do her thing. Because there's no one that does it better.
