Synopsis

Raised to become Alpha of the Yafenack pack, Samuel Goodwin dedicates his life to studying shifter laws, strengthening his body, and learning from his father. But despite his best efforts, Samuel can’t relate to people, including those he's supposed to lead.

When Samuel meets Korban Keller, the son of a neighboring pack's Alpha, he reacts with emotion instead of intellect for the first time in his life. Resenting the other shifter for throwing him off-balance, Samuel first tries to intimidate Korban and then desperately avoids him. What he can't do is forget Korban's warm eyes, easy smile, and happy personality.

When a battle between their fathers ends tragically, Samuel struggles to lead his pack while Korban works to break through Samuel’s emotional barriers. Two very different men with a tumultuous history must overcome challenges from all sides and see past their society’s rules to realize they are destined for one another.

Review

Of all the books in this series, this one really tugged at my heart the most. Samuel is such a brilliant Alpha Presumptive when we first meet him. His father, the Alpha, is absolutely loved by his family and son and is a true leader. I knew when we (the reader) met him that somehow, some way, Cardeno was going to break hearts. I was right.

Korban Keller is the Alpha Presumptive of a neighboring pack. A pack that is led by a horrible leader. One that feels rules don’t apply to him and because of that Korban is, sadly, cast aside as less than in his father’s eyes.

Cardeno has such an amazing way of adding a unique twist on each of her shifter stories. Where some drag on, in a typical fashion, hers tend to have something special. In some ways it’s haunting. Others funny and clever. In this one it’s emotional and rule bending. She shows that the old ways aren’t always the right ways and in doing this brings a clarity and freshness to a modern day shifter story.

In Your Eyes is a terrific addition to her Mates series and it has such a lovely ending that absolutely warmed my heart.
