Synopsis

Trystan is an unchosen angel—shunned by society, bullied, and without a future. In a hidden well, Trystan discovers a carving of a dragon, who were once the commanders of demons and now believed extinct. But Trystan learns the carving doesn’t depict an ordinary dragon. Stories tell that millennia ago, the great dragon Asagoroth and his demon army nearly conquered the three realms but was killed by the five elders. The powerful angels combined their life forces to cast a spell, sacrificing their lives.

But history is full of falsehoods. The five elders only managed to imprison the dragon, and Asagoroth had cast his own spell—one of releasement. It only needs the blood of an angel to liberate him from his cage….

Asagoroth, enemy of angels, conqueror of realms, is free. But even as the angels prepare for war, the great dragon surprises them with an ultimatum: hand over the angel who awakened him or face annihilation.

Review

One born of light. One born of dark. Trystan is the unchosen in the world of perfect angels. Asagoroth is a dragon and powerful leader of the demons. What starts as an accident and curiosity leads Trystan down a path he never could have imagined straight to the one he is not supposed to love.

“In a world where one’s life, profession, and destiny were determined at birth by a seer, the unchosen were a disgrace.”

Trystan lives his life day to day with no love or friends to call his own all because he was born as an unchosen. But he wasn’t just an unchosen he was an unchosen born of accomplished and revered commanders in the Upper Realm’s armies. Only one angel in the whole Upper realm who he has any emotional connection to was his sister Annalise, who herself was a knowledge keeper. But he was alone most days with nothing of importance to do because he was nothing of importance.

“A beast moved in the dark. Partially awakened from his stupor, he listened and he felt. Now he sensed someone he’d never forgotten, heard a whisper of their voice, felt the slight brush of their touch.”

Until the day he stumbled upon a carving under the garden and that is when everything changed. Unbeknownst to him his blood has awakened Asagoroth, the fearsome dragon who was imprisoned in the cage during the Great Battle more than a millennium ago. And now the dragon wants him. In order to save his kind he has to give himself over to Asagoroth. What he doesn’t know is that the dragon doesn’t just want him, he loves him. And as much as Trystan wants to save the angels of the Upper Realm he doesn’t just go to save them, he goes because he feels this intense connection to Asagoroth that he cannot explain. But things aren’t so easy as him just leaving because they are forces that want to keep Asagoroth and him apart.

“I longed for you. To hear you, touch you, to become one with you again. Your elegance and your softness. How I need you.”

There is just so much to say about this wonderful story. First the world building is excellent made better by the depiction of why the Middle realm was made. The author created her own story of “How the Human’s came to be” and it was awesome. She gives these two characters not just a love story but that their love had a purpose. Trystan and Asagoroth are meant, by coming together, to lead their people to the path of love and togetherness not war.

Trystan is drawn to Asagoroth from the beginning, even before he is released from the cage he was trapped in, but throughout the story struggles with believing that a dragon as mighty and magnificent as Asagoroth could love him and want him for himself. Being unchosen he has always been unwanted which further complicates their love no matter how much Asagoroth tries to tell him otherwise.

“We are meant to be together. Always and forever. You are my angel. I am your dragon.”

I guess you can say their love was instant but it wasn’t easy. Asagoroth just knows that he sees his love from a millennia ago in Trystan; loves the things that are the same and the things that are different. And no one will take away what is his again. He will do whatever it take to convince Trystan of his love which translates to some pretty hot, intense, and steamy sexy times.

“I am your dragon, dear angel. You lead, and I shall follow.”

This was a beautifully written story that I couldn’t put down. I will be looking for more future books from this author because there is nothing I love more than an author who can write fantasy as well as this!
