He can’t save everyone…

Firefighter Lucas Attiker is mired in guilt by his inability to save his young son, who perished in a fire three years ago. When he rescues a troubled young man and his baby daughter from a Colorado forest fire, Lucas finally begins to forgive himself. But the wildfire is only the beginning of the dangers facing them.

Hell-bent on saving his daughter from his crime boss ex, Owen Michaels is on the run with the baby in tow—fleeing both the killers who are after him and the US Marshals Service deputies assigned to protect him. When his desperate flight lands them in the midst of an inferno, the man who saves them offers hope for more than just survival.

They might have escaped a blazing forest and a hail of bullets, but both men will need to risk their lives—and their hearts—to give a little girl a loving family… if they can make it out alive.

Review

With one exciting twist and turn after another, I read Victoria Sue’s latest release, In Safe Keeping, while my heart lay lodged in my throat. This novel was non-stop action with the most incredibly sweet hurt/comfort theme wrapped around a beautiful second chance love story. When Lucas discovers a young man clutching an infant in the midst of a raging forest fire his only thought is to save them and get them out of harm’s way. Little does he even know that his habit of taking in strays will lead to him keeping the man, Owen, and his baby girl, Mia, safe from the malicious hands of a drug lord whose habit of killing those who betray him makes Owen his very own special target.

On the run with Owen and baby in tow, it’s hard to know who they can trust when every other person seems to be in the employ of the murdering Damien. When dire circumstances force Lucas to go to his estranged brother, their reunion rips the bandage on an old wound—one that includes the reason Lucas’ former wife and son are now deceased. So much is happening at once but Lucas knows one thing for sure—he can’t let go of Owen or Mia for they may very well be his only hope for a future without pain and guilt.

Gosh this story is just amazing. Every time I thought I had it worked out and thought I knew how things would end, author Victoria Sue would have the plot turn yet another corner and leave me gob smacked at the results. To say this is just a mystery wrapped up in a love story is to diminish the action that plays out in every chapter and the heart-thumping, death defying moments that keep this novel speeding along. I read this in one sitting and I can tell you that I absolutely loved Lucas and Owen together along with Mia and good old Bailey.

The marvelous relationship that forges this group into a family was slow to build and both Owen and Lucas continually checked their reactions against the fact that they were thrown together under such traumatic circumstances. They grappled with the idea that quite possibly their emotions would not be lasting or solid enough to continue when the drama finally dissipated. I felt this alone gave such credence and realness to the growing love between them. Suffice it to say I find it near impossible to find any flaws with this incredible story.

In Safe Keeping was a beautiful love story that kept me on the edge of my seat with enough surprise hits to keep me guessing till the end. I highly recommend this new novel by Victoria Sue to you.
