GRL Spotlight: Meghan Maslow

GayRomLit or as some refer to it as GRL truly is the must-attend event for people who create and celebrate LGBT romance. For those who are unfamiliar with what GRL is I can try and summarize it. Every year in October (this year it’s the 17th to the 20th with pre-events on the 16th) the LGBT community consisting of authors, narrators, readers, and professionals gather to share in their love of LGBT romance. There are signings, author lounges, many events, spotlights, it really is hours of fun.
The location changes every year and on the opening night of each year the spot for the next year  is announced. During this time at GRL there are two signings. One for Registered Authors and one for Featured Authors.
At these signings you can go to the authors’ tables, talk, have them sign swag they have, books you’ve brought, pick up pre-orders, and they will even sign something you brought from home.
Lounges are set up as well these are outside the signing times. Registered authors have one and featured have two lounges.
There will also be spotlights with readings, Q&A’s and so much more.
Now until October 14th Diverse Reader is spotlighting authors that will be at this years GRL. And if you want to know more about it simply head over to the site by clicking here:

Now for our Spotlight Author of the day!

Where to Find Meghan Maslow at the Event: You can usually find me on the dancefloor or in the bar, but I also frequent the coffee shop and haunt the author lounges. Pretty much anywhere there’s people. I’m mostly doing pre-orders this year, though I’ll bring a couple of copies of books 1 and 2 of Starfig Investigations for sale at the Featured Author Book Signing or you can purchase them from my PA during my author lounges. Book 3, unfortunately, looks like it will not be printed in time. * dies a little inside *

Thank you Diverse Reader for giving me the opportunity to participate in a GRL Featured Author spotlight! You guys rock!

So, who am I and what do I write? The name’s Maslow, Meghan Maslow, and I write gay romance with mischief, magic, or murder in it . . .  and preferably all three together. I’m the author of the Starfig Investigations series which stars half-dragon/half-fairy private investigator, Twig Starfig and his partner-in-crime-solving, human Quinn Broomsparkle. Rumor has it that there’s also a fierce but dapper red fury demon, and a ghost-pirate parrot named Pirate McPiratestein, or Pie for short. With a whole lotta love, a shot glass (or two) of comedy, a smidge of magic, and a teaspoon, um, tablespoon of dead bodies, this is an awesome—and fun—series to write.

GayRomLit: Albuquerque will be my 5th GRL and I’m just as excited as the first one I attended. I should warn you all that I’m an extrovert and my favorite thing at GRL is to peel introverts off the wall and from behind potted plants and befriend them. If this is your first GRL, welcome! If you’re an old pro at it, then you know I’ve already got a hug reserved for you. If you’re unable to attend but would like to in a future year, all I can say is DO. IT. Even if you show up not knowing a single person, you’ll leave with lifelong friends.

Starfig Investigations Series:

Book 1: By Fairy Means or Foul

Blurb:
The last thing half-dragon/half-fairy private investigator Twig Starfig wants to do is retrieve a stolen enchanted horn from a treacherous fae, but there’s no denying the dazzlingly gorgeous unicorn who asks Twig to do just that. Literally, no denying, because compelling the reluctant detective is all part of a unicorn’s seductive magic.

To add to his woes, Twig is saddled with the unicorn’s cheeky indentured servant, Quinn Broomsparkle. Dragons are supposed to want to eat humans, but Twig’s half-dragon side only wants to gobble up Quinn in a more . . . personal way. Making matters worse, it’s obvious the smokin’ hot but untrustworthy sidekick is hiding something. Something big. And not what’s in his trousers. In the PI business, that means trouble with a capital Q.

Throw in gads of zombies, a creepy ghost pirate ship, a malfunctioning magic carpet, and Twig’s overbearing fairy father’s demands to live up to the illustrious Starfig name. Naturally, an old but abiding enemy chooses this time to resurface, too. Those inconveniences Twig can handle. The realization he’s falling for a human who isn’t free to return his affections and whose life may hang on the success of his latest case?

Not so much.

Book 2: Be Fairy Game

Blurb:
They’re baaacckk!

When a simple ‘find & fetch’ case throws private investigator Twig Starfig and newly-minted wizard, Quinn Broomsparkle, into the middle of an EBI murder investigation, it’s just another day in the Elder Realm.

If murder were Twig’s only problem, he’d be the luckiest half-dragon in the land. Murder he can handle. Fulfilling his promise to his scheming, power-hungry father to run for a seat on Lighthelm’s city council? Meh, he’d rather face a demon with a toothache.

On top of their case going sideways, and Twig running for a council seat he really doesn’t want, Twig and Quinn are forced to face some unpleasant realities about their budding romance, while still learning how to handle the wizard-familiar bond they now share. Throw in a red fury with abysmal taste in boyfriends, a ghost pirate-parrot who drinks too much, a murderer who will stop at nothing to get what they want, a host of new friends and enemies, and you’ve got a situation where no one is safe and everyone is Fairy Game.

*This book is part of a series but can be read as a standalone.

A Cobra’s Charm (Short Story, Standalone)

Jiri’s life has been one misery after the next. A cobra shifter, he’s held captive by a collector who keeps him—and other shifters—in a private harem-style “zoo” in the Libyan desert. Considered a dangerous predator by the other shifters, and little more than a boy toy to the collector, Jiri is friendless, timid, and despondent.

Miksa is the collector’s latest find. But honey badgers are known for their bad attitude, fearlessness, and fighting spirit. Miksa has no doubt he’ll escape, even if it means taking the whole zoo down with him.

When honey badger and cobra meet, there should be instant enmity—after all, honey badgers eat cobras—yet both men find themselves oddly drawn to the other. Romance blossoms, but can it survive captivity and beyond? In order to do so, Jiri will have to find a strength he doesn’t know he possesses and Miksa will have to open a heart long closed to anyone except his immediate family.
