Lucky Series
Blurb
Jude’s too chained to his work to notice what he’s missing by being terminally single, but a new face in the village soon catches his attention. City boy Isha is gorgeous, and when he starts to haunt Jude’s reptile shop as well as the hook-up app on his phone, he's a welcome distraction from Jude’s business problems.
For a control freak like Isha, letting Jude under his skin is an existential meltdown, but Jude’s not in the market to be anyone’s queer crisis, not when he’s facing troubles of his own. Unlocking their lives could push both men apart forever, but it might be a risk worth taking if sharing is the key to their happy future.
Review
Garrett Leigh is undoubtedly the queen of writing real men,
with real problems, who are flawed and complex, but manage to make you fall in
love with them anyway. A happily ever after that’s hard won is the best kind,
and as with all of Garrett’s books, Jude and Isha have to work really hard to
get there. They stumble and make mistakes and struggle, but oh, man, did I ever
love these two! Snakes and other reptiles notwithstanding, lol. *shudder* Jude is the third book of the series,
but it’s a standalone so don’t worry if you haven’t read the first two books …
though you’re missing out on some fantastic books and couples if you haven’t!
As with all of Garrett’s books, this one features a main
character with a unique job. This time it’s reptiles. Jude owns a reptile shop
and is much more at home among things that slither and scamper than with
people. When he crosses paths with Isha, their attraction is instant and
intense, but Isha has been in the closet for a very long time and isn’t looking
to come out any time soon. Jude is wonderful…charming and sweet and though he’s
much more comfortable around animals than people, he’s got a presence about him
that Isha can’t help but want more of.
Isha…gah this man. A
complete workaholic who doesn’t smile or laugh often and is very much the
epitome of a type A personality. He needs to be in complete control and only a
very select few can get past the gruff, almost cold exterior of the man. Enter
Jude, who gets under his skin like no one ever has. Isha frustrated me, I’m not
going to lie. A lot actually. But his hot and cold attitude toward Jude and his
developing feelings seemed very genuine and on point to his character. I
honestly think he just didn’t have a clue how to deal with his feelings for a
man and the prospect of coming out to his family and friends.
It comes as no surprise that Jude is written beautifully, full
of scenes that flow effortlessly and characters who seem so real. There isn’t a
lot of angst (very un-Garrett like!) but there are plenty of emotions and feels
that will hit you where it hurts. Jude’s personality and his wish for more but
being so unsure of Isha really got to me as well as Isha’s fears, unfounded
though they might seem. Seeing so much of Dom, Lucky, Rae, and Cash was such a
treat, and I truly hope this isn’t the last we’ve seen of these couples. I
don’t want to say goodbye just yet! Be sure to check out Jude as well as the
first two books in the series. These are not to be missed!
