Synopsis
The heat took everything from Rowen: his parents, his voice when the local cure for heatstroke poisoned him, and the trust of his fellow villagers, who branded him a water thief. It would have claimed his life when he was deemed unworthy of precious resources and left in the sun to die, had not a strange man named Kristoff ridden in on the wind and told Rowen he had power.
Rowen works hard to become a Storm Lord, one of a secret magical group that brings storms to break the heat waves overtaking their world. But Rowen is starting his training at a disadvantage since he cannot speak and is much older than the other novices. The desire to please Kristoff inspires him to persevere even more than the threat of being sent back to his village to die should he fail. Still, he cannot gather rain, and when his abilities manifest, they are unlike anything known to the Storm Lords. Unless Kristoff can help him control his deadly powers, the entire world will be in danger.
Kristoff might be among the mightiest of the Storm Lords, but he’s never been a mentor before. For a chance to be with Rowen, he’s willing to risk everything.

Who knew I could love a story that revolves around the weather so
freaking much!
This was one of those stories that had me hooked from
the get go. I’ll admit I was nervous but intrigued all before I started to read
it. Ravon did not disappoint! It was imaginative, emotional, and beautiful.
I immediately felt for Rowen the first time we met him. Here's this
young guy who has lost so much including his voice, the one thing that would’ve
allowed him to defend the small villages accusations of him. But he had a
journey to follow, one that opened up his world so big it was a bit
overwhelming I’m sure.
Kristoff was a bit of a mystery to me at first. He’s the kind of
character that the author gave to us in layers, each one adding to the last,
showing us who this guy is. Being the youngest and strongest Storm Lord is a
lot to live up to and something he does
with dignity. When he finds Rowen, he
forms an immediate attachment to him. Even with all the things he didn’t know
about him since he couldn't speak, he championed him, pushed him, and
eventually loved him.
I could see that this author knew their characters because of how well
they delivered them to us, the reader, on page.
Even with all this world building that had to go into creating this alternate
universe of Storm Lords and heat spells and magic that never overtook the
characters. Both were so interwoven that it was a seamless story that I couldn't put down. The secondary
characters were fantastic and played an
important part in the story; they weren’t there to just be here. I
loved the ending and how perfectly it was handled. It was not just an HEA for Kristoff and Rowen but the world and the Storm Lords as well.
I’ll definitely be looking out
for this author's future work!
