Synopsis
A murdered prostitute. An obvious suspect. Clear evidence. For once, Jericho Crewe has a straightforward crime to investigate, and Wade Granger isn’t involved.
It all seems so simple, but Jericho’s instincts won’t let him rest. As he investigates, he finds troubling suggestions that the murder is a part of something larger and more sinister. But working within the boundaries of the law may keep him from finding the truth. If Jericho doesn’t break the rules, an innocent man may rot in jail while a killer remains free to strike again.
Inevitably, it all comes back to Wade. Because who else knows as much about breaking rules? And who else knows Jericho the way Wade does—not wisely, but far, far too well?

Review
I just want to say that I LOVE Wade Granger! I love the talent that he has to evade any and all when it comes to the cops finding out his bad behavior. I love his cocky smirk and I’m sure had I been Jericho I would love his kisses and more.
Jericho is still the under-sheriff and goes between severe boredom and big terrible crimes. And of course avoiding Wade like crazy. This time around he is the lead on a murdered prostitute and the man they arrest isn’t the man Jericho believes did it. Things change for him in this story and it added just another layer to an already complicated life. Jericho loves the structure and rules that come with the law but now he’s feeling so alone and unsure and is losing faith in the one thing he always had.
I love that Jericho and Wade’s story moves some huge steps forward and that Jericho is waking up to that change. I don’t generally mind fade to black in stories. They sometimes feel natural to the story and I don’t even blink an eye when they happen. This one did not. There's this slow burn between these two guys and yet after 15 years apart, so many obstacles in their way, the night they finally have intercourse and the author blanks it out. I think it was a disservice to the readers to not show what is a monumental and important night for these two guys. This isn’t just another sex scene this is a culmination of a LOT of tension, a LOT of emotion, and a LOT of thought. It was huge and it felt like it was swept under the carpet to be forgotten.
As hard as it was to watch Jericho go through the mental struggles he did in this book, it was eye opening and just another part of learning who he is. Yes, the amount of crime that goes on in this little town of Montana is slightly unbelievable but this reader was so engrossed in the story itself that it was easily forgotten. The secondary characters, again, play an important part in this story. From Wade’s mom to Kayla, to Will and Mr. Appleby, and of course Nikki.
I really want these two guys together so I was slightly mad at Kayla at the end (I can’t tell you why) but I do understand her point of view and will read on to the next book in the series, Home Fires.
