Synopsis

Thirty people. Two hours. Only the strong will survive.

When Riddle decides to put on a slave hunt, the Subs Club is on board. Tops hunting bottoms in the woods with paintball guns? Yes. Captives strung up on whipping posts, at the mercy of their captors? Hell yes. But on the morning of the hunt, nothing’s going according to plan. Miles and Drix are at odds over Miles’s reluctance to move in together. Dave is determined to show up D, who thinks Dave won’t last two minutes in the woods. Gould finds himself torn between obeying his master’s orders and living out a longtime fantasy. And Kamen inadvertently becomes a double agent when he aligns himself with two different parties.

By the end of the hunt, alliances will be forged and broken, loyalties will be tested, relationships will be strengthened…and someone will barrel roll. Narrated by ten different characters, Slave Hunt tells the story of two hours in the woods that will change everyone forever. Or at least, remind them that love is the greatest victory of all.

 Guest Post

Hi! I’m J.A. Rock, and I’m touring the internet to talk about Slave Hunt, Book 5 in The Subs Club series. Thanks so much to the blogs that are hosting me on this tour, and be sure to leave a comment with your contact info for your chance to win a $15 Riptide Publishing voucher.

New Voices: Kel and Greg

Slave Hunt has ten narrators, so on this tour I’ll be introducing you to the new POV characters—love interests and friends from the original four books who are now getting a chance to narrate.

Today, I’m introducing you to Kel and Greg. It’s kind of unfair to lump them together, since they each narrate chapters, but they’re such a team that it’s hard to separate them.

Kel and Greg were originally the series’ antagonists. A married couple who own Riddle, the dungeon the Subs Club frequents, they made themselves massively unpopular in Book 1 by reinstating the membership of Bill Henson, a dom whose ignorance had deadly consequences for a submissive.

Throughout the series, Kel and Greg developed a play partnership with Gould, while continuing to clash with Gould’s friends. In 24/7, they finally entered a Master/slave arrangement with Gould.

In Kel’s chapters, I was looking to capture the guilt she still feels over Hal’s death and her dubious handling of the aftermath, as well as her feelings of love and protectiveness toward Gould, and toward her husband. Kel’s articulate, smart, and knows how to take charge, even if people don’t always like her for it.

Greg presented an interesting opportunity: In 24/7 we get hints about how confused he sometimes is about how to handle Gould. Kel is Gould’s master; their relationship is pretty clear-cut. But Greg is submissive to Kel without being her slave, and dominant to Gould without being his master. He and Gould also aren’t sexually attracted to or romantically in love with each other. Greg’s confident and outspoken, and having a submissive as sensitive and hard to read as Gould is tricky territory for him. His subplot in Slave Hunt involves him trying to make sense of his role in Gould’s life.

My favorite thing about writing these two was getting to really see them in relation to each other rather than just in relation to Gould. The section where Kel talks about their marriage wasn’t originally planned, but it felt right to give them some time alone together, where they could reflect on getting older, on the way love grows over time, and on what they built together when they founded Riddle.

About Subs Club

After the death of their friend Hal at the hands of an irresponsible dom, submissive friends Dave, Kamen, Miles, and Gould band together to form the Subs Club—an organization seeking to expose dangerous local doms. The club slowly evolves as romances blossom, loyalties are tested, and tensions mount in a community already struggling for unity in the wake of Hal’s death.

From domestic discipline to knife play to fashion paraphilia, and from family drama to new jobs to first loves, the members of the Subs Club explore life’s kinks inside and outside of the bedroom as they attempt to let go of the past and move forward.

 Review

So, this book. To say it was full of all things awesome and kinky is a bit of an understatement. Slave Hunt by J.A. Rock is the fifth book in her most fabulous Subs Club series. It isn't a standalone, so I would not recommend picking up this book based on the kick ass title alone, though you might be tempted and who could really blame you? For fans of this series, and omg if you haven't read the first four books you need to correct that immediately, Slave Hunt is everything you wanted and more. There's lots of Kamen (hell to the yes!)  Miles and Drix, Dave and D, Gould and Greg and Kel, but there's also Ryan and Maya which just added to the overall pure unadulterated level of epicness of this book.

We are gifted, yes gifted, with 10 different points of view during this book. Kamen as always is just delightful and proves why he is most undoubtedly my favorite character in any book ever, but it's the addition of the new voices that made Slave Hunt so much fun for me. Ryan in all his short man glory, Drix in all his vampyre weirdness, and Greg was a nice surprise. I really enjoyed seeing inside Kel's head for a little bit, too. Her thoughts about Gould and what he means to her were especially enlightening. Sure Slave Hunt is fun and kinky, but there's always a depth to J.A. Rock's writing that adds so much to her books, even ones where we've got people dressed as puppies cavorting through the woods or people being whipped (voluntarily) with nettles while attached to a post.

This whole series is a fascinating look at many different aspects of BDSM. Each book might be laced with outrageous characters doing bizarre things but that doesn't mean these books shouldn't be taken seriously. What really got me in Slave Hunt is how each couple featured in the first four books (or threesome in the case of Gould, Greg, and Kel) is managing their relationships and how stable they are now. And happy. So happy. This made me smile and all warm and fuzzy. And really? Kamen with his hot sauce and cerulean ruffled panties was just the cherry on top of this most excellent sundae.

Do yourselves a favor and read this entire series if you haven't already. It's one of the most well-written, hilarious, sometimes tender and emotional, highly kinky and all kinds of awesome series I've ever read. I hope this isn't the last book of the series, I hope SO MUCH that it's not, but if it is, Slave Hunt is the perfect way to end it.

 About J.A. Rock

J.A. Rock has worked as a dog groomer, knife seller, haunted house zombie, standardized patient, cashier, census taker, state fair quilt hanger, and, for one less-than-magical evening, a server—and would much rather be writing about those jobs than doing them. A lover of m/m BDSM romance, J.A. lives mostly in West Virginia, and always with a beloved dog, Professor Anne.
