Synopsis
Music is Tim Chalmers’s great escape and the one thing that’s never let him down. But his band Spiral’s meteoric rise to fame has made it difficult for the drummer to maintain a low profile. Unwanted press pesters him after a public breakup with a volatile ex-girlfriend who loves the limelight as much as he loathes it. Tim’s main goal is to avoid confrontation. However, when he meets a handsome stranger in a dive bar who turns out to be someone he may know, everything changes. Carter Hamilton-Temple might be a successful financial consultant with more brains, sophistication, and charm than most, but he always falls for the wrong guys: closet cases or men with issues. He can’t fight his attraction to the tattooed rock star, but can he trust his own judgment? When the thrill of danger combined with a fierce physical connection proves too strong for either man to resist, a quiet liaison away from the public eye and curious friends seems like a safe bet. But some secrets are hard to keep. When rumors threaten to rock his world, Tim realizes it’s time to confront his fear with his own kind of honesty.
Review
I am completely in love with the way this
author writes and the stories she creates! Each one is a love story with more,
as I like to think of them. We all know going into a book that there is a
greater lesson the main characters learn in order to get their happily ever
after but with Lane’s books I always feel like those lessons are so interwoven
in the story that it’s not the love story on one side and the lesson on the
other. Her characters are always full of depth and life that you get drawn in
so far to their stories even when you want to kick their butts for being asses
sometimes.
Although this is told from the POV of Tim
I never felt like I wasn’t getting to know Carter just as well. I could feel
the changes in their relationship as it went. I loved the idea of a
one-night stand turning into a friends with benefits to more story line. It’s
complicated and not easy for them to navigate their way to all the changing
rules and emotions that came with it. Carter was this guy to me that was a study
in opposites. He was strong and demanding with this fierce “alpha” presence but
also not afraid to be who is was in the bedroom, no matter what people thought
of him. He is not ashamed of who he is; which is a lesson he learned by getting
hurt one too many times.
Tim was the one that was more flawed in
this story which honestly going in surprised me. I really thought it was going
to be Carter, the guy with no family, guys using him for his money or just
because they weren’t out. He just seemed so lonely; but Tim was the one that
internalized so much in his life. He has always been bisexual but after dating
women for so long he decided he needed a change and it seemed to me it was
almost like he was missing a part of who he is. One thing that really made me love
Tim was that fact that he described how he realized he was bi and the struggle
that was for him. This gave such insight into so much of how he handled this
part of himself now as an adult. So many
stories just have the guy saying he was bi but never asking the questions that
go along with it.
Even the sex scenes between Carter and
Tim were amazingly HOT but also showed a change between them almost each time
they got together. Each interaction between them altered how they viewed what
they were doing. And OMG Carter’s kinks are off the wall hot! From the very
first scene throughout the whole book no matter what they did it was hot but
Carter is a dirty minded guy and I freaking loved it!
I hope, as I do with all of Lane’s books,
that there will be more because I love this band and all its boys!
Excerpt
“What kind of a rock star are you? You’re supposed to love sex, drugs, and alcohol. I haven’t known you long, but you seem to only really like one out of three,” Carter commented idly as he shuffled the cards. “You’re right. I’m a sucky rock star. I rarely have more than one drink when I go out for dinner or even at a bar. Two at a party. Anything more usually leads to trouble. And I never take drugs. Even cold medicine makes me nervous.” I winked and gave him a lecherous grin that no doubt looked far from provocative in my current condition. “But I love sex.”
Guest Post
Tim and Carter from Lane
Hayes’s newest release, A Kind of Honesty,
have stopped by today to share five of their favorite songs. Remember, Tim is a
drummer in the popular rock band, Spiral. Things could get contentious…J
“You go first, Cart.”
“Why?”
“’Cause I need a minute to
think. I can’t just name five. It’s too hard.”
“Okay…um…Can I name any
Spiral songs?”
Tim rolls his eyes. “Sure,
but only one.”
“All right. Here goes. All of
My Love by Led Zeppelin, Thunder Road by Bruce Springsteen, Killer Queen by
Queen, Heroes by David Bowie,” Carter says, gesturing for Tim to takeover.
“Nice list, but that was
four. You’re missing one.”
Carter grinned. “I was saving
the best for last. My favorite song is “Surrender” by Spiral.”
“I like that one too,” Tim
admits with a shy smile. “I love Led Zeppelin. I could choose about five of
theirs easily, but I’ll say… “D’yer Mak’er”, Bowie’s “Young Americans”, Foo
Fighters’ “Times Like These”, Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb” and Nine Inch
Nails’ “Closer”. Phew! That was fucking hard. Wait. I need to add the Rolling
Stones and the Beatles too and—”
“Nope. That was it, babe. The
script clearly says five only.”
All good rock and roll
choices, boys! Thanks for sharing!
