Review

I am sure I’ve mentioned before that I love vampire stories add in a new take on the old story and I am sold. That is what Marguerite Labbe was able to do here. She created a vampire story that any lover of the paranormal will love. And she gave to us all in this Triquetra bundle. Who could ask for more?

She took the normal vampire story and made it her own by giving us gifted older (ascended) vampires that were slowly disappearing from the world through mysterious ways, the Syndicate which was a devious group who are after the last Ancient One, Kristair, for unknown reasons, and a love story between a hothead dominate young college football player and an old powerful submissive-ish vampire.

The dynamic between these two was definitely different than most other vampire stories. The human in this story is much more possessive and dominant than the very powerful vampire but it was a switch that both intrigued and endeared me to them as a couple. The stories are written in alternating first person POV. Since it was split by chapter there was no confusion on my part reading or concern I couldn’t tell who was speaking due to the fact that each one of these was so different from the other there was no comparison.

These stories are full of anything one reader could ask for! It’s full of mystery and suspense, danger and sex (oh my hot sex!), Love and hate, sadness and heartbreak. Jake and his friends were an important part of this story because his friends are like family to him, they live together, party together, but when Jake starts sneaking around with Kristair, and through the danger that the couple is in, his friends get severely hurt, Jake starts to question his relationship with the vampire.

What I liked most and also wished there was a little less of in book one was the battle that Jake went through in accepting Kristair and trusting that they were for each other and that he could trust Kristair. This is completely a personal point of view and it didn’t take away from the story so much but, as it should, it became such a focus that I think some of the other important emotions at play at the time got a little drowned out. I also wish that the beginning of book one where Kristair was “stalking” Jake would’ve been “shown” more instead of “told” I think it would’ve given a great depth and understanding to the quick development of their relationship.

I loved Kayla in this, Kristair’s “daughter”, because of the emotional changes that she goes through from the start to the end of the series. There were many characters who made appearances which kept me guessing on who was a good guy and who was a bad guy, which I freaking LOVE in books with the mystery element. And the ripple effect, where one action affects things the characters never thought it would, was intriguing to read and kept me on my toes.

So if you love a new take on vampires with a great storyline that will make you mad, happy, sad, and laugh this series is definitely one you want to pick up!

  1. Thank you for the post! This trilogy sounds like a mixed emotion read; looks to be another add on TBR list!

  2. I haven't read this series -- but is it a re-release? In any case, thanks for the review. The books I look forward most this November are all non M/M though. I have Nalini Singh, Michael Connelly, and Marissa Meyer

  3. Thanks for the review. Although this is not a new-to-me author, I'm not familiar with this particular trilogy. I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking forward to reading in November yet, I do a lot of challenges so what I read depends on them.

  4. Triquetra Series by Marguerite Labbe is one of my favourite series I've re-read it often. The books I'm looking forward to this month are "A Chance For Us" By J C Wallace, "When The Dust Settles" By Mary Calmes and "The Playmaker" By Andrew Grey
