Blurb

Gifted power over life and death, Lysandros has spent millennia in the underworld, listless and alone. The youngest child of Hades and Persephone, he’s been sheltered from the threats in the world above.

Theo Ward hasn’t been so lucky. After watching his mother wither away, he’d do almost anything to have her back. When a messenger appears at the Banneker College of Magic and offers the young professor a chance to save her, Theo can’t pass it up, even if it means going straight into the underworld and dragging her home. But Theo gets more than he bargained for when he crosses paths with the prince of Hades.

Set against the king of Olympus, they must shed their past burdens and learn to trust in each other, so they can face down a storm that threatens to wipe the nation’s capital off the map.

Review

This was a great start to a new series! It was a unique take on the Greek gods that had me fascinated from the blurb straight through to the epilogue.

I loved Lysandros right from the start. He was both distant and intriguing, and out of the two main characters, I think he was the one I most wanted to see his growth in the story. He fought so hard against being with Theo because of his past. But it all worked for him. He was that strong character that you can see into the heart of, but he refuses to open up to even himself.

Theo was a sweet guy that was hard not to like, albeit a little bit of a pushover because of his low self-esteem. My heart broke for him a little, but he rallied so much in this book that I was cheering for him pretty quickly.

The world building and unique take on Greek gods in modern times was really the base of what made me love this story. It was flawless and detailed, and the writing went along with that. I do wish for those of us that aren’t up on the who’s who in Greek mythology that they had the Cast & Glossary up front or at least a note that stated there was one in the back so I could reference it when a new god was mentioned. That would’ve helped clear up a lot of the confusion I had trying to follow the story in the very beginning.

I can’t wait for Prometheus’s story, and the excerpt at the end of this book really has me intrigued. Lovely story for us fantasy lovers.

About The Authors

Sam Burns wrote her first fantasy epic with her best friend when she was ten. Like almost any epic fiction written by a ten year old, it was awful. She likes to think she’s improved since then, if only because she has better handwriting now.
If she’s not writing, she’s almost certainly either reading or lost down a Wikipedia rabbit hole while pretending to research for a novel.
