Synopsis

Todd Navarro is halfway through college, trying to juggle his art studies with extra hours at work and finding time for his friends. Things aren’t exactly easier with the feud going on between the gallery he works at and the one next door. Or the fact that his dad just doesn’t seem to understand that art can be more than just a hobby—not everyone can be an accountant, dad!

So when his best friend Mela invites him to a frat party, he only accepts because he needs a breather from everything regarding his future. So, really, he doesn’t expect to meet Daniel Berger, who might just be his future. Well, until he finds out that Daniel has a lot more to do with the future of the gallery than Todd would have ever guessed.

Review

I'll be upfront and say New Adult books are my jam. Any book that has characters in it who are college-aged is going to grab my attention. When that is mixed with a gorgeous cover--as every Interlude Press book is, gosh, so so pretty!-- and also includes the theme of found family, well, I'm going to jump on that super quick for sure. Brush Strokes by E.S. Karlquist gave me all the feels I was hoping for and so much more.

Todd and Daniel are just lovely characters. Flawed, well-rounded, and captivating these two had me hooked right from the get go. I'm a big fan of character driven novels and because the story spent so much time focused on these two, I really got a sense of what they were all about and was so invested in their happily ever after. Being in college and navigating friendships and relationships as well as wondering and worrying about your future is part of growing up and finding your path, and I loved Todd's journey as he figures things out.

The secondary characters in the book, Mela especially, were stellar and added so much to the story without overshadowing Todd and Daniel. And as for Daniel, *sigh*, everyone should be lucky enough to have a Daniel in their life is all I'm gonna say so as not to spoil anything! If slow burn, well-written, character driven stories are your thing (and really, even if they're not!) I highly recommend Brush Strokes. Low on the angst and high on all the swoony feels, this book is sure to leave you happy and with a smile on your face! Don't miss this one people, you'll be sorry if you do!
