Synopsis
In the wake of several near-cataclysmic events,
humanity created the Cure, a DNA-altering antidote to death by disease and old
age. But all cures come with side effects: a small percentage of the population
develops a wide range of powers, some of which are lethal to others, and some
which are lethal to the wielder.
These people are called the Estranged, hunted and
shunned, safe only on the Island of Exile. It is here that Kaeva and Eddie
meet—and where they set a prophecy in motion, quite possibly sealing their own
demise, and even the end of Exile.
Genre: Gay, Urban Fantasy
Notes: contains some explicit content and includes
thoughts and discussions of past and potential suicide
Review
This is a very fast paced book and you have to stay sharp. If you find yourself getting sleepy STOP! You truly need to pay attention. The suspense is off the charts. I wish I could come up with something better than high octane but I can't. I wasn't sure what to expect form this book so it was an awesome surprise.
Dystopian stories are usually touch and go. Sometimes they take a severely political turn. Other times they concentrate more on the people, their struggles, and the way of the world. That's what I prefer and that's what this was.
This book wasn't suffocating like so many dystopian books tend to be. Great pacing. We see this world through the eyes of an exiled man. So the refreshing part of that is we learn right alongside Eddie.
Kelly Wyre and A.F. Henley are a great duo. Their writing is flawless and they seamlessly integrate their styles.

However, before we get
into any of that we wanted to remind you that we've got a couple of awesome
giveaways going along with the tour so be sure to read through to the end to
find out how you could win either a Silver-plated Starfish Anklet (just by
leaving a single comment!), or the grand prize of a signed, print copy of Breaker, a coordinates bracelet with the

The Character
Discussion
Kelly Wyre: And
today we talk about beauty products. Henley, your moisturizer: discuss.
AF Henley: WT—like, Vaseline?
KW: Ew. So many
things wrong with that. I cannot list them all. But I’ll try. Later. And you
seem confused. Aren’t we doing the beauty blog - oh! Wait. That’s not you. Or
us. Or here. Sorry. My bad. We’re talking about... Um. What are we talking about?
AFH: Seriously. You and your makeup obsession. I get
it. You love Jeffree Starr. But this blog tour is about OUR NOVEL. And this
particular post is about Bright.
KW: *MY*
obsession with Jeffree Star? MINE? Okay. Something else to address later. Your
denial. Wide and long. Wide and long.
AFH: Every thing I have is...
KW: ...wide…
and…? AAAAANYway… Brite. Oh yes. She’s a doll. Let’s talk about Brite before
people start asking you for those pictures I took that time at the beach.
AFH: The ones you were supposed to delete?
KW: And I will,
just as soon as you destroy the ones of me on the pool table.
AFH: Never.
KW: And alas,
we remain at an impasse. But BRITE. BRITE! She’s amazing. Works at the Med.
Helps Zunella. And Frost. Sweet girl.
AFH: Excellent. Sweet is good.
KW: Something
we know so little about, really.
The Teaser
Zunella was unfazed. "Maggots?"
"S'what I call 'em. The things. In my head. When I
hear shit."
"I see. What is your level classification?"
"Dunno."
"Do you consider yourself a threat to
society?"
"No. Just a burden, really."
Kaeva had to turn away and tune out the rest of the
questions. It felt wrong to hear the answers, rude, even. Eddie didn't know
this would happen within Kaeva's earshot, and Kaeva had hoped to be long gone
before the intake progressed this far.
"Here we go," Frost said, and Kaeva turned
again to watch Brite kneel at Eddie's feet. She was a pretty girl, with short
brown hair and long legs. She actually healed by breath, which Kaeva thought
was fascinating. He watched her as she bent to blow air on Eddie's torn knee
and then battered feet. The scratches instantly began to close and fade. The
dirt crumbled away. Kaeva knew from experience that Brite's magic even worked
on dry skin. Eddie's leg and feet would be soft as a baby's when she was done.

Henley was born with a full-blown passion for run-on sentences, a zealous
indulgence in all words descriptive, and the endearing tendency to overuse
punctuation. Since the early years Henley has been an enthusiastic writer, from
the first few I-love-my-dog stories to the current leap into erotica. A
self-professed Google genius, Henley lives for the hours spent digging through
the Internet for ‘research purposes’ which, more often than not, lead seven
thousand miles away from first intentions but bring Henley to new discoveries
and ideas that, once seeded, tend to flourish. Henley has been proudly
publishing with Less Than Three Press since 2012.

Until next time,

Brite seems to be adorable! Her name reminds me of sprite in that very cute sense. I know they all have these special ”powers" and some of them healing ones.
ReplyDeleteBut healing with one's breath feels special to me since breathing is life in the first place. Being able to heal by breath truly adds a magic feeling. 😃
Thank you, my friend! :D
DeleteI guess, to be specific, Brite actually speeds up healing time as the Cure already perfected cellular reconstruction (I don't want anyone yelling that we're not being accurate XD) but I'll tell you, I wouldn't mind having that talent myself. "Here, just let me blow on that for you..." ;)
Glad you enjoyed the post. Thank you so much for taking part in the tour! <3
I wholeheartedly agree. :D
DeleteI enjoyed the teaser Brite has a great gift it be so wonderful to be able to heal someone just by using your breath.
ReplyDeleteThank you! This is onespecially Estrangement that I can't imagine any downside to. I bet there is though.
DeleteThank you for joining us on the tour! Good luck! <3
Many, many thanks!
DeleteAh, I can see why you thought it was about moisturizer. Do you and Henley do a constant "I'm hornier than you are" routine? Or is that just my imagination? xD
ReplyDeleteYou know, the best way to deal with mutual photo destruction is to let an unbiased third party do it for you. I'm sure North, Quad, or even myself (just as an after thought) would be more than willing to destroy both sets of images for you with documented proof of their destruction.
Seeing how the different jobs are handled by different and yet similar powers is fascinating. As soon as I figure out why my script isn't working the way it's supposed to I'm so diving into this book. So excited.
Thank you! As for the photos, we'll keep that in mind. ;)
DeleteI can't wait to hear what you think! Thank you so much :D
(By the way, I win that contest every time.) ((Just don't tell Kelly I said that.))
I HEARD THAT HENLEY!
Delete(Thank you, Frost.)
I hate that I forgot to mention Brite in the yesterday's post in your blog tour. I really like her ability. So cool! And I find her a very cute little girl.
ReplyDeleteAgain, this is one of the scary-as-sh*t moments for Eddie. He had like dived in the unknown, unsure of what was about to happen or what were the wicked things waiting for him inside that facility. Glad that Kaeva was there all along. He helped him calm on that rather freakout-inducing situation.
Thanks for coming by to Diverse Reader, Kel & Henley! <3
Thank you! We're thrilled that you're enjoying the characters so much! Good luck! <3
DeleteSo happy you're enjoying all the peeps!
DeleteThank you!
