Synopsis

When Kai flies out of a shed, swinging a rake, Rick’s life flips upside down.

As alpha, Rick’s dedication to his pack has never wavered—until Kai. The pull he feels toward the younger man is more than a simple distraction, but Rick won’t let himself lose focus. Not while a hidden enemy is drawing near.

Moving in with the grumpy alpha who saved him is a big change for Kai, and it isn’t long before he begins to ache for something he can’t have. As a half-human shifter responsible for his three younger siblings, he knows he can never be Rick’s mate.

Pushing aside their doubts and insecurities, they grow closer. But when the pack’s enemies strike, bringing their fears to fruition, Rick and Kai have to decide if they’re willing to risk it all to be together.

The Alpha and His King is the first book in the Kincaid Pack series and features a quick-tempered and possessive alpha; a sweet and feisty alpha-mate; shifters, seers, and witches galore; massive amounts of hurt/comfort; and a happily ever after.

Excerpt

As he walked past the Kings' bedroom, the door swung open, and a slight body ran right into Rick, sending his phone flying through the air before it hit the ground and skidded down the hall.
He instinctively grabbed onto the person to steady them and found himself chest-to-nose with Kai, his bright green eyes blinking up at him in surprise. Kai's hands had come up during the collision and were planted on Rick's bare torso.
"Careful," Rick murmured, fingers tightening reflexively on Kai's surprisingly firm biceps.
"I'm so sorry," Kai said softly, cheeks turning pink as he dropped his eyes to Rick's chest. He swallowed and flexed his fingers, digging into Rick's pecs slightly. "I… I was trying to hurry and wasn't paying attention."
"S'alright." Against his better judgement, he took in a large breath through his nose, taking Kai's delicious scent of forest and sugar deep into his lungs.
They stood like that, frozen, for several more moments before Rick cleared his throat and released Kai's arms, taking a step back. His skin felt cold and alien where Kai's hands had been.
"You're meeting Bennett?" he asked as he looked around for his phone.
Kai darted a few steps down the hall and picked it up, holding it out to him. "Yes. He told you about the lessons?"
"Told me? No, I—" He stopped himself from revealing he'd been behind the suggestion. He had a feeling Kai wouldn't mind knowing, but Samantha avoided him like he groped her any chance he got. It was probably for the best she didn't know he was involved at all. "Yeah, I just invited him to go for a run, but he mentioned he was meeting you."
"Oh." Kai frowned, shuffling his feet. They started slowly moving down the hall together, and Rick tried not to focus on the fact it was the most time they'd spent together since the day Kai had arrived. "I can wait. He doesn't have to miss out on going with you because of me."
Rick suppressed his scowl. "He knows that. He wants to start your training."
Kai's plump lips twisted to the side, and he paused at the top of the steps. Finally, he turned to Rick, having to tip his head back to meet his gaze. "Are you sure? I don't mind waiting."
Moving slowly, Rick raised a hand and laid it gently on top of Kai's shoulder, just below his neck. It wasn't where he wanted to touch him, but he knew it was better than nothing. Kai's eyes widened, but he didn't step away.
"I'm positive. And I'm always right." He winked at Kai and was graced with a tentative smile and more color in his cheeks.
So fucking sweet.
"Yes, Alpha," he whispered.
Before Rick could tell him he could use Rick's name, Kai darted down the stairs and disappeared.
