Synopsis
For Howie, the lonely barista, he longed for the dream life. Husband, house with a white picket fence, 2.5 kids and a dog. Sadly, all he could get were meaningless one night stands leaving him feeling…empty.
Jackson Milsap, the introverted writer, quietly pined for Howie from the corner of the cafĂ©. Stepping outside of his comfort zone and asking him out on a date sent his social anxiety into overdrive. That was until the day he came to Howie’s rescue, forever changing both their lives.
This story was part of the Between The Covers limited edition anthology.
Review
I loved the premise of this story and jumped at the chance
to read it. Knowing it was a shorty story, I wasn’t expecting to get a ton of
character development, but I wanted a little bit more. Both Jackson and Howie
are so insecure and have such low self-esteem in the beginning, there just
wasn’t enough time for them to grow as individuals or in their security as a
couple.
There were also some strange editing choices that would take
me out of the story when they popped up.
Overall, a cute story but would have benefited from being
longer and maybe having another proofer looking it over.
