Prompt
Me
L.C. Chase
Happy Thursday,
everyone!
I had a
whole other post planned for today, but life and all that. Things I thought
would be done by now aren’t, so my next big project announcement will have to
wait just a little longer.
When I was
pondering what I might post about instead, I thought about when I started
writing seriously a dozen years ago. I joined an online writing community in
search of support and guidance, and found a wonderful group of aspiring scribes.
The group is gone now, unfortunately, but one of the things we did every week was
write a 1,000-word flash fiction – exactly
1,000 words – based on a simple prompt. Whoever won the week got to choose the
prompt the following week, and away we went. It was a great creative exercise,
and it was amazing how much story some writers could be pack into such a short
word limit.
I haven’t
been writing much for the last five years, and in a quest to kick those
creative juices back into gear I thought I might try revive the challenge. What
I would like to do here today is see if any of you would like to play along and
“prompt me”. It can be a single word; a half dozen random words that must be
included; an object; an opening sentence; a scenario; etc.
If I write
a flash fiction staying inside the word limit based on your prompt, I’ll name a
secondary character after you, and post the freebie “coffee read” on my
website.
If I chose
your prompt and am so bitten by the creative bug that I end up writing a
novella or novel length story, not only will I name a secondary character after
you, but you will receive a free advance copy of the final story.
