Sequel to Smoke & Mirrors

In a matter of days, Dex has been kidnapped, tortured, killed, revived, become half Therian, offered the chance to become a spy, and accepted a proposal to marry his jaguar Therian boyfriend, Sloane Brodie. It’s been a lot to take in, and although Dex is still trying to wrap his head around everything that’s happened, he knows he has to move forward.

After the events of Smoke & Mirrors, Dex and Sloane find themselves in one of the most frightening situations of all: revealing the truth to their Destructive Delta family. When the dust settles, nothing will ever be the same, and it’s up to Dex to prove that in the face of change, the one thing that will always remain the same is family.

Review

If you're like any of the many rabid fans of Charlie's THIRDS series, then you know we've been not so anxiously awaiting Darkest Hour Before Dawn, which is FINALLY Seb and Hudson's story. We're getting that one this spring--thank goodness!--but Thick and Thin is definitely the perfect appetizer to keep us all satisfied until then. A warning though, if you haven't yet read Smoke and Mirrors, book 7 of the series, do NOT read this one as it picks up right after the end of that book. This is definitely a "bridge" book between the THIRDS series and Charlie's new TIN series so to be honest, there isn't a whole lot of NEW information or anything to get gathered here, more of a tidying up, somewhat, of what's been going on with Sloane and Dex and giving us a glimpse into the future.

When we start, Dex is still dealing with his "changes", Tony is still in the hospital, and Destructive Delta is still as crazy as always. We do get to see Dex and Sloane tell those closest to them what the deal is with TIN, which I was really glad to see. Cael and Tony reacted like I thought they would, and anytime Cael gives Dex shit makes me laugh. With Thick and Thin only being 90 pages (give or take) this is a quick read but it does manage to tie up a few loose ends and sets the stage as to what's coming next for Dex and Sloane. I admit, I'm really looking forward to getting to Seb and Hudson. As much as I adore Dex and Sloane, it'll be nice to get away from them for a bit. And to be really honest, I'm hoping once the TIN series starts, that we get back to what makes these characters and the THIRDS so great ... all that fast paced action and suspense. I love the funny times, I do, but I really hope Charlie gets back to showing Dex and Sloane being the badasses that they are while they take down the bad guys. I'm all for sappy and sweet, but let me see the guys (along with the rest of Destructive Delta) do what they do best and that's kick ass.

  4. I listened to Santino Hassell & Megan Erikson's first two Cyberlove books on audio which I though were great. I've also been catching up on Discontented Winter's (AKA Lisa Henry's) Teen Wolf fanfics. Those are really awesome. Most make me cry.
