Synopsis

When Benjamin is kidnapped in Brazil, life as he knew it ends, and the once happy young man is turned into a wreck, a stranger to his family and fiancĂ©. In his desperation he reaches out to his best friend, a former psychiatrist, for help and under his constant care he takes significant steps towards recovery. Eight years pass by, years of suffering, therapy and a painful divorce, and while he’s trying to put his life back together he finds himself falling for both the man who was there for him all along and the woman who adores him.

"LESS ORDINARY is a drama that examines a man’s journey exploring his own sexuality and takes a contrarian view of conventional relationships as its other characters come to terms with their feelings and form their unique relationship dynamic."

Excerpt
(Michael)

Looking back, I don't know what I was expecting, really; that maybe, when he walks through the door, she will be with him; that maybe, just maybe, she changed her mind and decided to stay with us. Everybody would have been happy, even Ben. As much as he didn't want to admit it, he liked her a lot, maybe even loved her. 'Would that bother me?' Hmm, good question. I love him, but I know I'll never be able to give him what he's longing for whilst she could, and this wouldn't be the first time I share my partner with someone else. You probably find this unimaginable, but in the end it's all about what you're comfortable with, and what your personal limits are. I'm not saying it's easy. It's never easy to share the person you love, but in this case I'm confident that it would have worked. She is... something else and she would have been the perfect match for him, if it weren't for me. Oh no, no, no! Don't fool yourselves. I'm too selfish to give him up. I love him but, if he would choose her over me, I think... I wouldn't stand in their way. But then again, why should he or any of us choose? Why not stay together? Nobody would suffer and everybody would get what they really want. Now the question is what do we want? Well, let's see... I want him! I love him, he's the one I've been waiting for all my life. What? You think it's too romantic or womanish or weak for a man to say this? Well, let me tell you something. You're wrong! Just because I know what I want and how I feel, and I'm not afraid to say it out loud, that doesn't make me weak. Romantic? maybe. Womanish? no. Umm… well, some of my friends might disagree, but let's get back to who wants what. He wants me, but he wants her too. Perhaps he didn't realize it yet, but I see how he looks at her sometimes, and she... she loves him. She told me herself, not entirely wittingly, but still. This is how we stand now and the question is: 'What am I going to do about it?' He walked through the door just as I finished my monologue with the face staring back at me in the mirror. He looked tired and buried in thoughts. "Hi, you okay?"

Review

This is a story about three people Mike, Emily, and Ben. It's told through each of their POVs so we go inside each brain. When dealing with menages or any book where the MC's equal more than two people I find I like the multiple POV. It's important to slip into each head. It heightens emotion and helps us understand the situations more.

It's a very intense story. The beginning was a bit dark but just from the blurb alone you can tell we are dealing with serious subject matter. Everything has a reason and the darkness in the beginning brings forth light at the end. Ben is the load barring link to this trio relationship. It's because of what happened to him in Brazil that brings these three together.

I found the storyline to be very engaging. In this drama we are dealing with so much more than making this trifecta relationship work. Even though eight years passes since Ben's kidnapping, it's a shadow for him.

Each character is well written. The author fleshed them out well and it gave the story that extra push it needed. This story will make you think. You will find yourself in the shoes of each of these characters at some point in your reading. Because of the intensity of the story you will find understanding each one to be welcoming.

It's an interesting and deep story a bit dark at times but very thought provoking.

About the Author

Born in Transylvania, home of the Vampires and their founding father Dracula, Monica pursued a law career having her own law practice and nine years of experience in that field back home. She speaks four languages: Romanian, Hungarian, English and Italian, but sometimes, when she’s nervous, she tends to forget all of them. Monica was a fan of books, and good stories since she was but a little girl, but started her writing career fairly recently. She moved to the UK a couple of years ago to follow her dream of working in Theatre and becoming an established author, and “Less Ordinary” is the first in the line of successful but yet unsold novels to come :)

  1. Friendship and familial bonds are important but I don't think I have to be involved with someone romantically to be happy or content.

  2. I think communication is the hardest part about maintaining relationships. A lot of people have a difficult time talking openly about what bothers them.
