Sharing a late-night kiss with his best friend, Alex, is Riley’s dream come true. Waking up to discover Alex was too drunk to remember anything is more like a nightmare. Scared the truth could destroy their friendship, Riley keeps quiet and pretends nothing happened.
Alex can’t shake the feeling that he said or did something stupid on their group’s drunken weekend away—why else would Riley be avoiding him? Although the explanation he finally gets sounds plausible, Riley’s still acting strange, and trying to figure out why that is unearths emotions Alex has worked hard to bury.
Riley knows not telling Alex how he feels is probably selfish, but he wants one last normal Christmas before he has to come clean and face the potential fallout.
He should have known it wouldn’t be that easy.
Review
This is a sweet, fluffy, and low angst Christmas story...so basically
the perfect kind!
Riley and Alex are best friends, but Riley wants more. He’s had a crush
for a long time and after finally getting the kiss he’s always wanted things do
not go his way. Alcohol and confessions don’t usually go well together and this
one is no different. But there is no way that Riley is telling his best friend
what actually happened, no matter what anyone says.
Riley has some major physical insecurities. Alex waking up the next day
not remembering anything about the kiss...hurts. I understood the lack of
communication because of Riley’s insecurities so that did not bother me at all.
He’s the guy you just want to hug. And, poor him, his best friend isn’t exactly
the most observant guy. Everyone around them sees how Riley feels; but Alex is
oblivious.
Most of the friends were great additions to the story. All diverse in
their jobs and personalities but I just found that Abi didn’t add anything but
a slight annoyance to the story. The setting in the cabin was very Christmassy
and set a very good romantic setting when needed. The snowball fight was fun
and light which just added the snuggly cuddly feeling to the overall story. The
steam level in this story was low key but these two guys were most definitely
hot for each other. Even with the epilogue was definitely more of HFN than HEA
but as short stories goes that doesn’t surprise me.
These two guy are cute together and I love bestfriends to lovers
stories!
