One night can change everything…

Jesse Sykes has lived far longer than his youthful appearance suggests. Becoming a vampire after tragedy struck seemed the only option when his soul was shattered, after all he’s no stranger to having to hide what he is from the rest of the world. But eternal life isn’t without problems or heartache.

With a good job and great friends, Ian Moreton’s life would be almost perfect—if only he wasn’t in love with his best friend. His feelings are unrequited, and in an effort to move on, he takes a chance on a one-night stand with the handsome stranger he meets in a bar.

Jesse knows the risks of becoming attached to a human, but with neither of them looking for anything serious, where’s the harm? At least, that’s what Jesse thinks until his chemistry with Ian proves off the charts.

A second hook-up solidifies their connection…and brings Jesse to his senses. He scrambles to protect Ian from danger, but it’s already too late. With Ian unwittingly drawn into a world he knows nothing about, events are set in motion that will change both of their lives forever, and it’s up to Jesse to steer them safely through it.

Review

I will admit that Vampire stories are usually not my first go to stories but Annabelle Jacob’s Wounded Souls, was definitely not what I had expected. It was truly a remarkably well written story. It showed something that I was immediately hooked to and that was compassion. Yet, it definitely didn’t lack in nail biting scandal that caused my breathe to hitch quite a few times.

The author was so creative when she wrote this story, and I could see just by her words how important it was for the reader to fully understand that the coven of vampires she wrote about were not out to hurt the human race, but to coexistence with them. It was even more relevant when the character of Jesse, who regardless of his feelings towards his human lover, Ian, selflessly let him go even though it hurt him to walk away. Even his good intentions weren’t enough to save his Ian when jealously of another refused to let Jesse be happy. When a horrible chain of events happen leaving his dear Ian lying dead in an alley beyond Jesse’s control he mistakenly takes Ian’s choice away by turning him.

Jesse is such a caring and honest vampire and hates that he accidentally played a part of Ian’s change and went against their law, he wants to come clean in order to protect Ian from the threat that resides in his coven. Even though Jesse knows that he could possibly face years underground in jail or even death. Ian has become that important to him. My heart broke for the new lovers and what they knew had to be done. Even though they had planned to come clean, even forces interfered.

This story was remarkable, and lots of love and respect was shown in the writing in this story. It was a powerful read and enjoyed this book immensely.
