Synopsis

Avoiding sleeping with women was my specialty, an art form even. As the future King of England I couldn’t be caught sleeping with men. My whole life played out in front of the paparazzi, and they didn’t miss a thing.

I had a carefully crafted womanizing persona to maintain. My life came with rules, all of which I broke when I couldn’t resist a one night stand with the enemy: A beautiful paparazzo with a heart of gold. He may be the only person who doesn’t want me for my title, and he can never be anything more than my secret.

But secrets have a way of coming out and not only will they scare him away, but they’ll lose me the crown.

Review

The one thing about this book that stands out most was the emotional slow burn.

It made for an intense story that was sparked between these two right from the start. It’s like having a UST even while they were having sex. Louis and Xavier were doing this balancing act the whole time, between their jobs-Louis the prince and Xavier the paparazzi-and the personal relationship that was growing between them. Every step and every moment was one that they not only learned about each other, sometimes in the smallest of ways, but also learned about themselves. How far they would go to be with the other and what power this connection held over them.

Louis was an immensely likable character; he was the good guy. The one that was always doing the right thing, even when it came to hiding his sexuality. His whole life was about this public figure he had to be for himself, for the Queen, but also for his sister who struggled with her public role every day. I honestly felt for him every step of the way through him falling for the last person he should ever fall for.

Xavier was not a bad guy, yeah his job was less to be desired for public figures trying to keep some level of secrecy in their lives, but he had boundaries and rules he never broke, most especially not for money. He hated being in the limelight so I was shocked each and every step of the way that that wasn’t even enough to pull him away from what could literally ruin his career and draw all the focus to him.

They were playful and cute, intense enough to melt my kindle, and so freaking in love. They’re that couple that is most assuredly better together than apart, but of course, the gay Prince and future King doesn’t get the happily ever after he wants when he has to live for his country so why not just live life to the fullest until reality comes crashing down. Or does this fairytale show us love can win out in the end?
