Blog Tour: A Love To Remember by Sarah Hadley Brook ~ Guest Post #Excerpt #Giveaway

Travel Dreams

In A Love to Remember, Graham’s home on the lake is based on a cabin my family spent time at every summer. Those trips created memories I still hold dear.

I enjoy short trips, such as a weekend at a lake. I love the quiet at night, the peaceful night sounds like the water lapping at the edge of the dock. It’s so calming and the tension leaves me immediately. Getting away for a couple of days tends to reinvigorate me, allowing me to shake the gloom or moodiness away and start back fresh.

My dream vacation would be to travel to Scotland and see the towns of my ancestors. To stand where my great-great-great grandparents lived and learn what their lives may have been like. Ever since I was a child, I’ve tried to learn about the country—the rich history, the highland clans, the ancient battles, and the royalty. Everything I’ve read and seen of Scotland only intensifies the strong call I feel to visit.

There are so many historical sights I want to see, I’m not even sure where to start—Castles, ancient stones, historical homes and trails, not to mention the gorgeous highlands! I could probably spend weeks there and not see everything I wanted.

I truly hope to travel there someday, but in the meantime I am attending my first convention as an author next month at the RT Booklover’s Convention in Reno. I’m so excited about it, I feel like a kid at Christmas! I can’t wait to meet some of the authors that have inspired me and truly hope I don’t trip over my own feet. When I get nervous, I tend to be klutzy.

Okay, truth…I’m kind of klutzy when I’m not nervous, too. Also when I’m happy, sad, angry…I think you get my drift. But when I’m nervous I’m worse. So crossing my fingers!

Below is a short excerpt from A Love to Remember.

“You’re adorable,” Sam said, his eyes crinkling. “I mean, I knew you were sexy, but, God, you’re just…adorable, too.”

Graham had never met anyone who just said what was on his mind. There was no pretense, no embarrassment, and no anxiety over the other person’s response. It was clear Sam spoke sincerely, no matter the situation. Graham wasn’t used to such honesty and wasn’t sure what to say.

“Look, can we at least talk?” Sam asked, cocking his head and patting the cushion next to him. “Please?”

Graham’s pulse picked up and he took a deep, shaky breath as he considered Sam’s question. No doubt the man would bring up their night at the club. He met Sam’s gaze and his breath caught in his chest. Those caramel eyes proved too much, too intense, too beautiful to turn down. Maybe they should talk about things. Set some real ground rules. Graham made his way to the sofa, choosing to sit a little farther away than Sam had indicated.

“I promise not to bite,” Sam whispered.

He met Sam’s gaze and chewed on his bottom lip, a habit when feeling anxious.

“Okay, I’ll go first,” Sam said after Graham stayed quiet. “I’m just going to say it, okay? The other night, I was really bummed that you didn’t want to see me again. I mean, I had a fantastic time.”

Graham swallowed hard. He’d had a great time, too. Definitely the hottest sexual experience of his life. But that’s all it could be. “I did, too,” he admitted, his voice low, eyes everywhere but on Sam.

Sam slid closer, his arm resting on the back of the sofa. “I just wanted to get to know you a little better and you darted off. I mean, what would be wrong with a date?”

His hot breath washed over Graham’s face, and he trembled. “I don’t date. Ever.”

That didn’t seem to deter Sam. “You have to admit, it’s pretty crazy that I ended up at your doorstep this morning. I mean, that has to be some kind of fate, or something, right?”

Blurb

Graham Hayes decided long ago he’d never be in a relationship. It was better to stay single than to fall in love only to be left alone, which he was certain would happen to him. He’d seen Alzheimer’s ravage his family members all his life, leaving their loved ones to deal with the fallout. Some of them stayed, but some didn’t. Graham isn’t going to risk it.

When he hires nurse Sam Morgan to take care of his dad during the day, his pledge to stay single is put to the test. He soon finds it difficult to maintain a professional distance.

Graham’s guarded his heart for so long, but his resolve is crumbling. Will he be able to conquer his fear to give himself a chance at love? Can he trust Sam to stick around for better or worse?

Author Bio

Sarah Hadley Brook lives smack-dab in the middle of the Heartland and is the mother of two wonderful young men, as well as two cats. During the day, she works in the nonprofit world, but reserves evenings for her hobby-turned-passion of writing, letting the characters she conjures in her mind take the lead and show her where the story will go. When not working or writing, she can be found reading, working on dollhouses, trying her hand at new recipes, or watching old movies and musicals. In her ideal world, Christmas would come at least twice a year, Rock Hudson and Doris Day would have costarred in more than three movies, and chocolate would be a daily necessity. She dreams of traveling to Scotland some day and visiting the places her ancestors lived. Sarah believes in “Happily Ever After” and strives to ensure her characters find their own happiness in love and life.
