Review
The Losing Game is the first time I’ve read Lane Swift.
Always interesting and a little scary to read a new author. The synopsis and
cover of this book were intriguing and it immediately pulled me in. I wanted to
read this exciting story.
From the prologue we get a good idea about Dante and the
skills he has along with one of his daughters. I instantly was on board with
the whole thing. I was so eager to see where it was going.
When we are introduced to Lucas he’s a shattered man
hell-bent on revenge for the careless murder of his sister. When a mutual friend
of Lucas and Dante’s thrusts them together it’s with a great misunderstanding.
Lucas wants to murder a man and wants Dante’s help and Dante is so confused as
to why he was sent to him.
So, we follow this story of these two guys and Avery, and
all the people in their lives. Building toward what exactly I’m not even sure.
At least for a while I wasn’t. The story took a little long to get moving for
me and I felt it dragged in a lot of places. I was well into the book before it
actually picked up. It was 50% in when things started to manifest into what was
going to happen and how the ending will be defined.
Not that it’s a bad thing. We get a good inside look at
Dante and his life along with Lucas’s as well. Things that, at the time, I felt
were weighing down the story. I found it valuable when the book picks up. It
basically gives you better insight.
I did enjoy it once I got really into it I just wish it
didn’t take me as long and I’m not sure if it’s a personal issue or if it was
the flow that was the issue for me.
It’s a deep and quite emotional story which surprised me as
well. I was so sad for a good portion of this book so there is absolutely angst
in this.
If you are a fan of angst and deep characters then this is
absolutely for you 100%. Lane didn’t falter at all with the characters and the
emotion!
