Author Saturday Spotlight: Lynn Michaels #Interview #Giveaway

Saturday is here and it's that fabulous Author Saturday Spotlight time! This week the wonderful Lynn Michaels is here and talking with me about her awesome self. She's written some creative and entertaining books such as Evasive Maneuvers, Lines on the Mirror, Wanton, and The Holeshot. So I kidnapped her... I mean asked her nicely and she agreed to come here today, talk books and such and then, again, agreed to do an awesome giveaway. No Lynns were harmed in the making of this post.
So have a seat, chill and lets do this.

Corey has graduated from college and is trying to find his way, but when his Dom/boyfriend, Jack, demands that he move in with him, Corey loses himself in emotion, fighting Jack every step of the way.
Jack is a rich owner of a real estate investment firm and he's determined keep his submissive/boyfriend in line, even though Corey refuses to use his safe words.
Will their play become all consuming, or will they learn to trust each other enough to find love?

In the world of Supercross, taking the holeshot means one racer leaps ahead of the crowd and into first, leaving the rest of the pack behind. If Supercross racer Davey McAllister knows anything, it's how to take the holeshot. When the hot rising start mechanic, Tyler Whitmore, shows up in his bed, Davey does just that. But, dating a competitor's mechanic threatens to blow his ride if anyone finds out. With the fear of losing his sponsors, he has to keep his love life completely under cover, but Davey is in deep and wants to tell the world how much he loves Tyler.

Tyler Whitmore wants to be out of the closet, but dating the competition is a death sentence for his career. Overprotective of Davey's reputation and his own dreams, Tyler refuses to commit to his lover and is afraid of falling hard. Will they ever be able to find their way through the Premiere racing league pitfalls and acknowledge their love?

Campbell Fain has been rebelling against his father, refusing to grow up for so long, he's not sure what his life really means anymore. When he meets the man that makes his heart melt, he lies to impress him. Unfortunately, facing the truth may turn out to be the least of his problems when he's forced to come face to face with the sins of his father.

He was the quarterback in high school, all American sweetheart and solid guy, but Stone Medlock is just figuring out his life. When he meets Campbell Fain, it turns his world around and he just might be falling hard for the rebellious punk, but will he still be able to support and trust Campbell when the lies come out?

Will Campbell's lies tear them apart before they even begin? Will they find the love behind the lies?

Martin has always done everything his parents ever asked, never making waves, but never learning how to say no either. Then his new partying neighbors introduce him to a different lifestyle that pushes his limits.

The only thing keeping him grounded is getting back in touch with his first love, Daltrey, who moved across the country when they were still teenagers. Now, he's a successful artist and plays by his own rules. He wants Martin but won't compromise his morals.

When Martin lets his new friends drag him down until he hits bottom, can he ever find his way back to Daltrey and take control of his life?

Interview

Lynn, thank you so much for being my spotlight author this Saturday. I’ve had the great pleasure of reading some of your work and I truly love your work. Today is all about getting inside of that brain of yours. So, sit back and don’t panic.

Let’s start out easy. It’s Saturday. How do you spend your weekends usually?

Well, I have a full time job in the real world, so there is never enough time to write Monday through Friday, so obviously weekends are for writing. Or Kayaking. Or Sangria. Whichever...

With school starting up all over the place soon, what were some of your most favorite subjects when you were in school and why?

English and writing were my favorites. That’s no surprise. I also liked the business classes and my undergraduate degree is in business. Despite my love of fiction, there is a very practical side to me.

If Wanton was becoming a movie who would you cast as your MC’s?

Jack is easy – David Gandy. I don’t care if he can even act. Haha! We just need to look at him. He’s perfect for Jack. Corey is a little harder. He’s very complex and shows such a wide range of emotions that we need someone that can really pull it off. I think David Henrie (Wizards of Waverly Place) would be great. He has the right look. His face!

What’s the best advice you could give an author just starting off in this genre?

I could dish out a lot of advice here! The best thing though is to write what you love. Write the stories that demand to be told. Write the stories where the characters in your head will NOT shut up. Those are the stories that will have passion and you will be happy. The rest of it will come in time.

What was the very first MM book you ever read and was it that book that made you choose to write gay romance?

This is actually a tricky question.  The first book I ever read that had gay characters shown in a positive light was Mercedes Lackey’s Magic series. Magic’s Pawn, Magic’s Prince – I can’t remember the other one – but the hero happened to be gay, though that was only a part of his struggle, his relationships were a major piece of the plot and I loved  how she wove it together.  That made me start thinking about writing characters that you didn’t normally see.
And then....Black Dagger Brotherhood. J.R.Ward’s gay couple were so freaking hot!  That made me seek out more stories and that’s when I was truly introduced to MM Romance. My Roommate’s Pleasure was the first real MM Romance genre book I read and it made me want more which made me want to write. So, when the characters started talking – I did.

What would be the most perfect setting to write in?

A private little cabana overlooking the beach.  On the practical side, I need some good tunes and uninterrupted time.

Can you tell us about your future work?

I’d love to! I’m finishing up the first draft of Time For Love which is about a young philosopher and a police specialist who develops a mobile app to help profile criminals. There’s suspense woven throughout and I just adore the characters.  I have a Christmas time novella with my Beta Readers planned for release around Thanksgiving. And....the one we’ve all been waiting for:  Holeshot 2 is in edits! I’m hoping we’ll see it just after the first of the year.

Have you ever had writer’s block and if so what did you find was helpful to get through it?

Yes! Sadly. The best way to get over it is to not focus on it. I try to do other things that are relaxing like kayaking, going for a walk, or do some yoga or meditation. That usually gets the brain flowing again.

Fast Fire Questions:

Leather or Lace? Leather
Wine or Beer? Wine
Cold or hot? Hot
Flip flops or sneakers? Flip Flops – I’m from Florida, ya’ll
Dogs or cats? Dogs. Cats don’t like water – unless they’re a tiger, then I’ll go with Tigers.
Favorite band? Journey – I’m telling my age – though I’m really digging 21 Pilots right now.
Favorite sound? My grandson laughing
Favorite color? Purple
Would you rather dance for people or sing karaoke? Tough... I’d rather sing, but no one else would agree... hahaha! I have a horrible voice, so let’s all dance together!

Thank you, Lynn, for being here today. I look forward to reading more of your books.

  4. I love Lynn's books!! How funny that she has read Mercedes Lackey books. The Magic Series was the first series I had read that had a gay character in it as well. It was very eye opening for me to read about people who thought like I did. She opened me further in the M/M genre and I haven't looked back!
