Synopsis
Calvin Summers and Ethan Hobbs have been best friends since childhood, but somewhere along the line, their friendship evolved into something more. If
you're like me and a ton of other people, you are a HUGE fan of Charlie
Cochet's brilliant, entertaining, and addicting THIRDS series. And if
you're as big a fan as me of the books, then of course the audio books
are among your favorites as well. Which means that we're all in
agreement that there is no doubt that Mark Westfield is THE voice of the
THIRDS books.
He does such a fabulous job of giving each character a
little something to differentiate them which makes listening to his
smooth voice all the better. Funny, sweet, sexy, or angst to the max,
these books run the gamut of all the feels. From the strong, stoic type,
to the jokester, to the sweet and easygoing guy, to the badass chick,
to the gruff and grouchy Sargent, to the guy we all love, these books
are chock full of complex, layered characters, each with their own
specific nuance and personality. It takes a hell of a narrator to
capture all of that and Mark Westfield is a master.
In Catch a Tiger by
the Tail, he's given quite the task with Ethan's character, seeing as
how Ethan doesn't speak hardly at all due to his mutism. I thought the
way he sort of whispers Ethan's thoughts was particularly brilliant and
very effective. This book is a bit lighter in parts and Mark captures
that perfectly with his cadence and tone of voice and then of course
when the action picks up, there's no one better than him to impart all
that tension and drama that makes your heart rate speed up and keep you
on the edge of your seat. Of course, there are also some very serious
moments, especially between Calvin and Hobbs. These are all done so well
and you can definitely feel the emotions of each scene.
I'm
particularly fond of his voices for Dex and Cael and Letty and there's
no one better when it comes to all those "police" sounds like walkie
talkies and telephones. Those extra touches add so much to the listening
enjoyment. This series just keeps getting better and better and
listening to it only makes that more so.
