Hello all! Thank you so much for joining me today for the next stop on the Catch a Tiger by the Tail blog tour, celebrating the release of book 6 in the THIRDS series!
In this book, Calvin and Ethan take center stage. After five books of being supporting characters, it’s time for them to tell their story. To share their thoughts, private lives, and more. I love writing supporting characters as much as I do my heroes, which is why a good number of them end up getting their own books. Usually when I’m writing the first book in a series, I can tell who’s going to get their own story, if I haven’t decided ahead of time.
Turning a supporting character into a main character isn’t easy. Supporting characters turned heroes need to be engaging in books that aren’t their own, enough for readers to want to know more about them. At the same time, you don’t want to have your secondary characters over shadow your main characters.
With Calvin and Ethan, it was even more of a challenge, because unlike Dex who’s rarely quiet, these two are mostly quiet. In fact, where Ethan was concerned, he was always quiet. In five books, he said maybe four or five lines, and only to Dex. But just because Ethan had Selective Mutism, didn’t mean he couldn’t be a hero in his own right. Far from it. Ethan is still expressive, despite his not speaking. He’s an important part of his family and friends’ lives. Calvin is just naturally quiet. He’s a little broody and sarcastic at times, but mostly very reserved. He’s the suffer in silence type.
It’s through Dex and Sloane, and later in book 6 Ash and Cael that we get to know Calvin and Ethan, enough for readers to want to know more about them. We learn about their friendship. The fierce unbreakable bond. There are no flashbacks in Catch a Tiger by the Tail. In this book, we expand on everything we’ve learned about these two along the way. We learn why they are the way they are, why their bond is so strong, and why their love will never falter.

Review
Book six of Charlie Cochet’s THIRDS Series focuses on Calvin and Ethan. But, like all Charlie’s books in this series, we get a huge dose of all the boys and girls. This book has been building for a long while. We get inside Ethan’s head for the first time. He suffers from selective mutism and severe anxiety. The poor Tiger therian tears my heart out constantly. It’s Calvin, his partner and best friend, who anchors him. They are one when they are together. We finally get to see them evolve in their relationship and individually. There’s A LOT of things uncovered in this book and not all of it is just about Calvin and Ethan. Do I tell you it ends on a cliffhanger? I’ll decide that later…. Where was I? Oh yeah…
Dex is humorous as EVER! My sides were killing me. Between Dex and Sloane, Ash and Cael, Calvin and Ethan. I laughed so hard. When you’ve followed these guys for 6 books you just sort of think of them as real and you mold into their lives.
There’s action, adventure, tears, kisses, hotness, Cael on caffeine, wet lions, and suspense. Charlie has written an outstanding book that will have you going through the wringer and looking for things to bribe her with so she can give us book 7… oh yeah, you will!
This is one of the best series I’ve read and the best characters!

  2. I still haven't started on this book mainly because I saw many moaning over the cliffhanger ending. :P

I'm intrigued how a pair of quiet people communicated with each other when they're alone though, more so with Ethan's condition. This post wet my eagerness to read the book sooner than I'm planning... (and still undecided. Lol)

Thank you for the post & entertaining blog tour, Charlie. :)
