It’s a classic story: Boy meets girl, girl breaks boy’s heart, boy pretends to be gay to get back at girl, girl outs boy to everyone on Facebook…

Okay, maybe it’s not that classic. But it’s what happened to me.

When I bump into my cheating ex and catch sight of the moon-sized rock on her finger, there’s only one option to save face: pretend to be dating my gay best friend, Declan.

And when she outs me on Facebook and everyone I know sees it, there’s still only one option: keep pretending to be dating Declan.

And when Declan and I have to kiss to keep up the ruse and it turns out there’s actually a spark between us (more like a blazing inferno, if truth be told) there’s once again only one option…

Warning: this book is not appropriate for anyone who doesn’t like laughing, anyone who doesn’t like dogs, or anyone who doesn’t like hot men having a lot of sex…with each other.

*Happily Ever After included

I really loved so many things about this book.

Pretend/fake relationship? Check.

Friends-to-lovers? Check.

Meddling family? Double check.

Throw in plenty of heat and humor and Olsen has a real winner here! Declan and Heath are both sweet, relatable characters who you want to root for because you fall in love with them so easily.

Olsen’s writing style did take a little while for me to get used to. It’s a little less structured than I usually like, but it ends up fitting with the story and I was able to get into it fairly quickly. Heath and Declan’s ages aren’t given (I don’t think), and even though one’s in veterinary school and one’s on his second career, the story has a New Adult-vibe that I liked.

If you don’t like books that rely on A Big Misunderstanding to provide conflict, maybe skip this one. I rolled my eyes but easily kept reading because I was invested in these two knuckleheads.

But if you like low-angst and funny, then I definitely recommend Olsen’s debut MM romance. I expect I’ll be reading a lot more of her books in the future.
