Author Saturday Spotlight: RJ Scott *Interview & Giveaway*

RJ Scott I dub an author of romance. She always lifts you up, no matter the past her characters have had. Her Texas series touches my heart. As a mother of an autistic child I'm always touched when I not only read such wonderful books where autism is included in the story, but that it's written so perfectly. I love relating.

I'm so happy to have RJ as my spotlight author this Saturday and for those who are new to her writing, you're in for a treat! You have a lot of catching up to do :D

Fans? Well, you'll enjoy the interview and learn a little about this amazing talent.

At the end there is a Reader's Choice Giveaway. One lucky reader will win their choice of any RJ Scott ebook! How exciting!

First, let's take a look at some of her work:

The Heart of Texas (Book 1 Texas Series)
Riley Hayes, the playboy of the Hayes family, is a young man who seems to have it all: money, a career he loves, and his pick of beautiful women. His father, CEO of HayesOil, passes control of the corporation to his two sons; but a stipulation is attached to Riley's portion. Concerned about Riley's lack of maturity, his father requires that Riley 'marry and stay married for one year to someone he loves'. Angered by the requirement, Riley seeks a means of bypassing his father's stipulation. Blackmailing Jack Campbell into marrying him "for love" suits Riley's purpose. There is no mention in his father's documents that the marriage had to be with a woman and Jack Campbell is the son of Riley Senior's arch rival. Win win.

Riley marries Jack and abruptly his entire world is turned inside out. Riley hadn't counted on the fact that Jack Campbell, quiet and unassuming rancher, is a force of nature in his own right.

This is a story of murder, deceit, the struggle for power, lust and love, the sprawling life of a rancher and the whirlwind existence of a playboy. But under and through it all, as Riley learns over the months, this is a tale about family and everything that that word means.

Guarding Morgan (Book 1 in Sanctuary Series)
Morgan Drake is the only witness to a murder in an alleyway. Nik Valentinov works for Sanctuary, a foundation offering witness protection to anyone whose safety is compromised. Morgan discovers a bodyguard's arms can offer more than protection.

Morgan Drake witnesses a murder in an alleyway. He is the only person who can give evidence in prosecuting the cop responsible for the crime. When the FBI safe house where he's being held is compromised, he follows the instructions of the agent in charge and runs.

Nik Valentinov works for Sanctuary, a foundation that offers witness protection when FBI security is questionable.

When Morgan's handler sends him to Nik for safety, neither Morgan nor Nik could imagine that two weeks alone in a cabin in the woods would have their hearts racing with something much more than merely trying to keep Morgan alive.

The Fireman and the Cop (Book 1 of Ellery Mountain Series)
Rescuing cop Finn Ryan from a burning precinct was easy; it's keeping him alive after that which fireman Max Harrison finds difficult.

Ellery is a quiet town in the Smoky Mountains, at the base of Ellery Peak, and nothing ever happens. Max is escaping from his firefighting job in the city to take up a role as assistant to the Mayor whilst also holding the position of a volunteer fire fighter.

Finn Ryan is one of only three cops in the small town and it soon seems to Max that someone is out to hurt the sexy cop. Rescuing Finn from a burning precinct was the easy part; it's keeping him alive after that which fireman Max Harrison finds difficult.

***INTERVIEW***

With Halloween around the corner I'll ask you this: What is the best horror or sci-fi book you've read?

That is an easy one. A Sound of Thunder is a science fiction short story by Ray Bradbury, and even though it isn’t written as horrific, the idea that an alternative future could be created (and a pretty bad future at that) by someone in the past stepping on a butterfly always scared me…

What would you say are your greatest strengths as a writer?

Keeping my head down and writing. It would be difficult to say anything else, as that is a question you’d have to ask my readers. But, when all else fails I have this way of working that means I write and write and just keep going. Apart from the end of last year when I kind of burned out, but that is another story!

Have you learned anything from writing your books and what was it?

I’ve learned that I should write what I love, and not try to write to *fit a market*. I’ve learning that I love writing, and that I am a writing addict!

I associate you as a writer of romance. You always lift us up with your writing, have you EVER thought about trying a darker path with your writing?

I will always write a happy ever after. Whether I write something darker or not it would always end in a HEA. Some of my characters have darkness in their lives, and that is more the route I like to investigate.

Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

I have an active imagination and I do a lot of research. But for the Texas series I have a young autistic boy who I base on my own son.

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

Thank you. Always, thank you for reading my books.

What book are you reading now?

I just finished Anne Tennino’s Billionaire With Benefits, I love the Romancelandia series so far!

Where do your ideas come from?

They are in my head. Everything I see or hear gives me ideas, and then sometimes the ideas just jump in my mind without asking.

Can you tell us about your current or future projects?

I’m currently writing Texas Fall, which is book 6 in the Texas series. I am 30,000 words into a 50,000 book and I’m loving every minute of it. Next up is my Christmas book, Angel in a book shop.

How can your fans follow you through social media or website?

RJ Scott has been writing since age six, when she was made to stay in at lunchtime for an infraction involving cookies. She was told to write a story and two sides of paper about a trapped princess later, a lover of writing was born.
As an avid reader herself, she can be found reading anything from thrillers to sci-fi to horror. However, her first real true love will always be the world of romance where she takes cowboys, bodyguards, firemen and billionaires (to name a few) and writes dramatic and romantic stories of love and passion between these men.
With over sixty titles to her name and counting, she is the author of the award winning book, The Christmas Throwaway. She is also known for the Texas series charting the lives of Riley and Jack, and the Sanctuary series following the work of the Sanctuary Foundation and the people it protects.
Her goal is to write stories with a heart of romance, a troubled road to reach happiness, and most importantly, that hint of a happily ever after.
