This weeks charity is presented by Best Selling Author, Kate Aaron. The Charity she's chosen is The Albert Kennedy Trust. Here, in her own words is why:
My charity is the Albert Kennedy Trust,
a charity which supports LGBT youths in crisis. Founded in Manchester in 1989,
I became aware of the AKT's work when I lived in the city. Currently they have offices
in Newcastle and London as well as Manchester, and offer services ranging from
temporary support to housing for up to eighteen months for LGBT youths aged
16-25.
During my time living in Manchester,
I saw first-hand the result of LGBT kids being alienated and rejected at home,
often running away from one dangerous environment only to end up in another.
Any charity which can keep them safe and give them the support to get on their
feet gets my money, and the AKT makes sure they do more than get them off the
street for a night or two: they can provide assistance with finding first
independent homes, or placements with mentors and guardians for those who are a
little younger. On their donation page, they give some examples of what different amounts can
provide. As little as £15 ($25) is all it takes to provide someone in crisis
with a bed for the night. Alternatively, they organise challenge events throughout the year to raise funds through sponsorship.
Kate Aaron is being very generous, not only helping to raise awareness and asking all of you to support our LGBT youth, but, she's also doing a giveaway:
For
the giveaway she'll be offering the winner's choice of one of her available titles
in ebook (excluding box sets), and also making a £15 donation to AKT in their
name.
WOW! This campaign is Give a Little, Thank A lot. Kind people like Kate Aaron are thanking you a lot and all you have to do is give a little!

This will run until Thursday, November 20th. Please, reach out and help.
Breaks my heart to read about these kids. I regularly donate to Lost-n-Found Youth Atlanta but had some money to spare for this cause as well Kate.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Yvonne. I know every little really does help!
DeleteGreat cause and wonderful initiative.
ReplyDeleteThank you for bringing this charity to my attention. I will contribute to their cause as soon as I am able. I have been looking for some good LGBT charities.
