Guest Post: RJ Scott ~ Cowboys #Giveaway #Sale

I fell in love with cowboys in romance way back with my first ever romance books, given to me by my aunty Olive. I was off school ill, but I was bored, and mum gave me the bag of books that Olive had given here. In there were five or so Mills and Boon stories, and one of the first I ever read had a cowboy theme. I seem to recall it was a fish out of water theme or a mail order bride theme - or it could have been both of them!

What I love about the cowboys in these stories is that they work hard on the land, love their animals, were perpetually *about to lose the ranch for ‘insert reason here.’ It didn’t matter how many hours they worked, the fence was always broken, livestock escaped, and there was very often a rattlesnake incident. This usually occurred when the heroine decided to go for an ill-advised ride on a horse that bucks her and then makes it’s way home!

When I began writing my first ever cowboy story, The Heart Of Texas, I had the impoverished rancher, land rich, cash poor, always working, always exhausted, with a family that depended on him. Jack loves his property, his family, his horses, but there’s no way to save it all. Until millionaires oilman, Riley, blackmails him into marriage. Hate to love, opposites attract, an angry kiss, a little light bondage in a barn, murder, intrigue, who’s the daddy to the baby, horses, barn fires… it is a soap opera of a saga, and I loved writing every minute of it!

Texas is now completed at nine books and is currently in Kindle Unlimited. There is an angsty spin-off, Legacy, which is a further three books (KU, obviously).

Is it easier to fall into the shadows than hold onto the light?

Injured in a horrific car accident by a man who made him feel like nothing, Henry was left with life threatening injuries, crippling self doubt, and his career as a hockey player destroyed. He’s struggling to see, and as much as people tell him to have hope because he’s young and fit, his vision is compromised and he’s spiraling into despair. Estranged from his family, and his money all gone, there seems to be no hope. Hockey gave him freedom, and now it’s all been taken away.

Adler insists on letting Henry stay in a vast Lockhart-owned mansion in Tuscon, but it's a big and lonely place. When Apollo arrives at the house with his sunny smile and infectious optimism, along with his no-nonsense rules, he slowly becomes an integral part of Henry’s life. But one day, when Henry is better, Apollo will leave, and what happens then? Has Henry really fallen for the dark eyed man, or is it all just smoke and mirrors?

If there is one thing that Apollo Vasquez knows all about it’s helping others and living with quirky athletes. After all, he’s spent most of his adult life tending to one of the richest hockey playing heirs in America. His days have been filled with friendship, laughter, and the knowledge that he’s needed. Or he used to be. Over the past year Apollo’s best friend, Adler Lockhart, has been slipping away, his time spent with his boyfriend, on the ice, or traveling the world with the man he loves. This leaves Apollo feeling like a clunky third wheel or all alone in a luxurious apartment with no one to fuss over.

Knowing that his life is at a crossroads, his loving nature leads him far away from his childhood friend to the dry desert town of Tucson where he signs on to care for Henry Greenaway as the young Raptor recovers both mentally and physically from a near fatal car crash. Henry is also facing a new life, one that might lead him from the sport he has loved for so long. Cooking, cleaning, and providing moral support is just what the doctor ordered for Apollo, and he soon finds himself not only rediscovering himself and a new life he adores, but falling for the sweet, lost, injured man who’s slowly capturing his heart one timid smile at a time.

Review Tour: What Lies Beneath by RJ Scott #Review #Giveaway

Length: 67,000 words approx.

Cover Design: Meredith Russell

Blurb

In the hottest summer on record, Iron Lake reservoir is emptying, revealing secrets that were intended to stay hidden beneath the water. The tragic story of a missing man is a media sensation, and abruptly the writer and the cop falling in love is just a postscript to horrors neither could have imagined.

Best Selling Horror writer Chris Lassiter struggles for inspiration and he’s close to never writing again. His life has become an endless loop of nothing but empty pages, personal appearances, and a marketing machine that is systematically destroying his muse. In a desperate attempt to force Chris to complete unfinished manuscripts his agent buys a remote cabin. All Chris has to do is hide away and write, but he’s lost his muse, and not even he can make stories appear from thin air.

Sawyer Wiseman left town for Chicago, chasing the excitement and potential of being a big city cop, rising the ranks, and making his mark. A case gone horribly wrong draws him back to Lancaster Falls. Working for the tiny police department in the town he’d been running from, digging into cold cases and police corruption, he spends his day's healing, and his nights hoping the nightmares of his last case leave him alone.

Review

Flabbergasted is the best emotion that I can use to describe how I feel after reading RJ Scott’s newest release What Lies Beneath: Lancaster Falls Book 1.  This storyline had everything that I love in a suspense tale; mystery, drama, hidden town secrets, a possible murder or murderers, lies, conspiracy and two men who are caught in the middle thrown together by chance but seem to be the anchor that each other needs.

Sawyer Wiseman is glad to be back in his hometown of Lancaster Falls and working in their small police department after leaving the city of Chicago along with the buried ghosts that only seem to haunt him when he closes his eyes. Even if it means dealing with the police captain who doesn’t hide the fact that he hates that Sawyer is assigned to work in his department. Sawyer, being low on the totem pole, is ordered to go and see who is now living in the cabin on top of the mountain. The possibilities could be a drug dealer, maybe a killer on the run, what he doesn’t expect is some nosy author that is having issues with writer's block.

Author CJ Ward aka Chris Lassiter is staying in a cabin in Lancaster Falls per is publicist advice trying to recreate his small town he grew up in. He hopes it helps him with his writer's block. So not working for Chris as of the fourth day, and he still can’t seem to find anything to write, even Kota, his dog, seems to feel the tension. However, when sexy Officer Wiseman comes as some sort of welcoming committee, Chris becomes more fixated on the officer and something he had mentioned. Always looking for inspiration for his novels, he decides to do the opposite of what he was warned not to do which leads this town into more than just the skull and skeleton remains.

Big cities may have crimes in big portions just for the fact of higher population but it’s the smaller towns with history where everyone seems to know everyone and where the deepest and most dangerous ones seems to lurk. Sawyer and Chris are finding out that there is more than meets the eye within this small town. Some people are hiding big secrets. As Sawyer and Chris start to find their love and happiness together what more lies beneath the water? I still have so many questions and hope to get more answers in book two Drew and Landon’s story coming out this fall.

Review Tour: Single by RJ Scott #Review #Giveaway

Length: 54,000 words approx.

Cover Design: RJ Scott

Blurb

Reeling from the painful rejection of a man he thought he loved, Asher is left holding the baby.

Ash wants a family, and is determined to continue with a surrogacy he’d begun with his ex. Bringing baby Mia home, he vows that he will be the best father he can be. Nothing in this world matters more to him than caring for his daughter, not even accidentally falling in lust with the doctor next door. Challenged by his growing attraction to Sean, and confronted by painful memories of his family, Ash has to learn that love is all that matters.

When ER doctor Sean moves in with his friends next door to sexy single father Ash, he falls so quickly it takes his breath away. The sex they have is hot, but Ash is adamant
his heart is too full with love for his daughter to let anyone else in. Why is Sean the only one who sees how scared Ash is, and how can he prove to his new lover that he desperately wants the three of them to become a family?

Review

Ash had big dreams—he was going to be a father and have a partner by his side to help him raise their daughter. Unfortunately the man he thought loved him and the idea of joint fatherhood had other ideas and left him holding a broken heart and a newborn baby. Thankfully his twin sister stepped in to help but now Ash and baby Mia were home and Ash was terrified. What if he failed his beautiful little girl? What if he made so many mistakes he turned out to be a lousy father? Sleep deprived, lonely, and scared, the last thing Ash needed was some drunk stranger on his doorstep late at night asking to come in. Turns out the guy actually lived next door and when one of his roommates, a gorgeous doctor, stopped by to apologize, Ash made sure to be polite but keep his distance. Mia was his first priority—he had no time for romance. Too bad Sean from next door had other ideas.

Single by RJ Scott signals the beginning of a new series all aimed at stories about single fathers. Ash is perhaps the quintessential first time parent—hovering, anxious and a little paranoid about failing. He loves his little Mia so very much and that trait alone made him so appealing to me. I think, at times, his fears were a bit over the top in terms of the frantic way he tried to be so perfect for Mia but one can’t fault his intentions or the heart-melting way he loved his little baby. Sean was just the perfect match for Ash. Genuinely caring and determined to get to know both Ash and Mia and become a part of their lives. He took every argument Ash made for them to stay apart and only be friends in stride and continued to slowly break down the walls of mistrust and anxiety Ash had built around himself.

I loved the fact that RJ Scott took her time building the relationship between Ash and Sean. This was no quick romance or insta-love trope, instead the two men became friends first and lovers second—really just a perfect way for this story to evolve. The two fit together seamlessly in many ways but that’s not to say that there wasn’t some bumps along the way—this is what, in my opinion, made the story feel so authentic. Whereas Ash’s preoccupation with Mia could be seen as a bit too much and a tad unbelievable, the love that developed between Ash and Sean was fully realistic.

Single was a very nice beginning to a series that I look forward to reading. If each story is handled in the fashion that this one was I am fairly certain the author will give us many more installments to enjoy.
