Synopsis

Flamboyant book café owner Luca Moretti and geeky doctor Gus Hansen have been together for six years when the Supreme Court ruling makes same-sex marriage legal in all states. On June 26, 2015, Gus gets down on one knee and Luca screams yes.

On their wedding day, shortly before the ceremony, Luca’s mother explodes in anger, calling him a freak. The reason? He’s wearing a white veil, sprinkled with crystals.

Their relationship has been strained for a long time, and her words trigger traumatic memories. Instead of walking down the aisle, Luca runs.

Away from his mother. Away from Gus.

Gus counts down the minutes when Luca’s mother comes knocking. He realizes something’s wrong, but when he goes to talk to Luca, his husband-to-be is nowhere to be found.

Can Gus find Luca in time and manage to convince him to come back and get married?

Review

This is such a sweet and adorable novella. It's a story about two guys, Luca and Gus, and they are about to get married. With marriage and weddings comes drama and a lot of stress.

Luca's mother is a piece of work, no question. She's what I refer to as a life ruiner. Luca is a breath of fresh flamboyant air. He wants to wear a veil and look positively fabulous and feel beautiful on his special day. And this is where the problem lies with his mother. She just comes right in like a tornado of terror and judgment. Gus is an anchor for Luca and I adored how he loved Luca no matter what. Luca has a wretched mother but he has Gus and his amazing family.

This is a story about unconditional love. How it holds us up when ignorance tries to tear it down. It's about the strength of love and the power of acceptance. This is a lovely and romantic story!
