Today is the first day of the March Madness
Giveaway Week! We have seven amazing days of awesome authors, amazing
giveaways, and so much fun!
I asked each author one question. They had to
answer it in 150 words or less. As you can imagine it was a serious challenge
but they did it! They had to answer the question; what does this genre mean to
you?
Today we have the first 10 authors: Dev Bentham,
Jendi Reiter, Michael Jensen, Andrew Jericho, Helena Stone, J.E. Birk, CJ
Lynne, Meraki P. Lyhne, Layla Dorine, and
Kayleigh Sky.
Each day will have a new rafflecopter giveaway so make sure you check in each and every day
this week.
What does this
Genre mean to me?
I love the inclusiveness of this community. Maybe
it’s because we’re reading and writing about love affairs that have
traditionally been marginalized or perhaps we’re just a quirky group. Either
way, I’ve been impressed both by the range of stories available in the genre
and the diverse interests of our readers. This is a big tent and I love that.

What does this
genre mean to me?
M/M keeps me optimistic that men can be vulnerable
and tender, women can transcend sexist limitations, and people of all genders
can find love and self-acceptance. I discovered I was non-binary by writing from
a man's point of view. It's beautiful to see indie and queer authors supporting
one another in this community. Thank you all!

What does this genre mean to me?
The M/M genre is one
of the few places gay and bisexual men can reliably turn to and find ourselves
represented in all of our varied stripes, and that’s a whole kahuna-full of
awesome. As for the M/M community, what’s not to love? I honestly believe that
part of the reason same-sex marriage happened so quickly was because so many straight women, many of
them inspired by M/M, took up the banner for gay equality and fought side by
side with the LGBT community.

What does this genre mean to me?
I've always been an activist in the LGBTQIAP community.
My desire is to provide a voice for those fighting to maintain their humanity,
civil liberties, civil rights, and human rights. We’re all one.
In the summer of 1991,
I was seventeen, a gay transgender man, and suicidal. I was bullied throughout
my childhood, and know the pain such actions can cause. I was saved by my
partner, John. Always remember to be proud of who you are. The words of others
do not define you. There are organizations which can help, such as The Trevor
Project.
Writing gay romantic fiction for Siren is one of many ways I've chosen to bring
a positive light to the LGBTQIAP community and its literary genre. My
books explore gay men in real situations of life and love. I blend
romance, passion, and eroticism into all of my characters. Love is love…period.

What does this genre mean to me?
The MM genre and community, despite the occasional
mad flare-up, feel like a safe place to
me. I can honestly say that I’ve encountered nothing except acceptance and
support from both readers and writers ever since I discovered the community. It
started with people cheering me on when I first mentioned wanting to write a
book and it hasn’t stopped since. Whether it comes to help with my writing—in
the form of beta-readers, brainstormers,
or cheerleaders—or takes the form of a sympathetic ear and comment when I’m not
having the best of days, I know without a shadow of a doubt I can always count
on the members of the MM community to be there for me, just as I try to be
there for others. And I guess it’s exactly for that reason that it hurts so
much more whenever a, fortunately rare, shit storm does hit

More

community is one of those incredibly important places.

What does this genre mean to me?
The
LGBT community is a loving, strong, and resilient one. I write LGBT novels
because the genre is super sexy, very romantic and allows me unparalleled freedom
when crafting my M/M stories. I enjoy reading/writing LGBT novels
because they are very emotional and “real”—the characters aren’t unbelievable,
too perfect or predictable; they can say and do whatever’s on their minds, even
to the point of having a knock-down, drag-out fight with each other if
warranted. Also, in addition to the usual relationship hills and valleys we all go through, LGBT couples have to
overcome unfair societal stereotypes/prejudices to obtain their HEA. In
fictional life, but more importantly in the real world, the trials they are
willing to face on a daily basis are a testament to the depth of their love—and
love like that is enviable, aspirational, and to be cherished.

What does this genre mean to me?
It
was by happy coincidence I learned about the MM genre. But really, I think it’s
the cosmos placing me among wonderful
people in a time when I need love and acceptance the most.
You
don’t find a bond like this anywhere
else. It’s more like family. Even though we sometimes disagree then we still
love. There’s the drama like in any other family, but virtual hugs, empowering
comments, cheers, words of comfort, random kindness, humorous banter—all that
takes up most of our time together.
This
is who we are. This is how we change the world for the better. This is why you’re
all awesome!

What does this genre mean to me?
For me, this community means lively conversations
and meeting a bunch of wonderful people. It’s about support and the freedom to
write the characters I envision. It’s about love and acceptance and learning,
so much learning and people willing to answer questions and help you grow into
the person you see yourself as being. One of the things that I love most is
that there a place for people of every walk of life, however we got to be writers, we share a love of books, we share a
love of learning and exploring and that creates a beautiful space in an online
world that can, at times, be tricky to navigate. It’s a home for introverts, a
place where one can emerge from their shell bit by bit surrounded by
encouragement. It’s a sort of home, that’s the best way to describe what it
means to me.

What does this genre mean to me?
Why do you
read? Diversion? Pleasure? Well, for me, a good story uplifts and transports
us, too. Getting by in this life can be tough. Sometimes we lose sight of the
dreams of happiness and true love we used to have. And some people are told
they aren’t good enough for those things, anyway.
I write
stories in all kinds of genres—science fiction, dystopian, contemporary,
suspense—just because it’s fun. I write romance to give a happy-ever-after to
people who might not believe that happiness is their right, too. It is. I write
to show the beauty and transformative power of love in all its forms. I write
mm romance because love is love. And everybody deserves it. And I want
everybody to see its beauty and power—and to remember it's everybody’s
birthright to love and be loved.
