What does this genre mean to me?
I’ve found a home for my ideas and
words in this genre. I enjoy being able to write stories about love which have
a happy ever after. I’m not sure I feel like a fully-fledged author yet, but
I’m getting there. I can’t believe this year I’ll have ten stories published.
The writers in this genre are also very supportive of each other, and when I’ve
needed help and advice, or just a pick me up, people have been there.

What does this genre mean to me?
As
a gay man who grew up in the 70s and 80s, I never dared to imagine I would
discover such an expansive, supportive community of readers, writers,
reviewers, cover artists, and all other friends and allies. And what a rush for
me to have the opportunity to write stories with characters I always wanted to
see represented in the books I read growing up. The sheer number of stories
readily available from so many different authors is staggering. And not only do
these stories feature gay characters, but they are presented in a positive
light. And more often than not, they obtain a happily ever after! It’s a
wonderful opportunity we authors have now to encourage the new generation of
LGBTQ youth and let them know they are not alone.

Acceptance.
Everyone being welcome.
That’s
what the gay romance genre and community mean to me.
I’m
a new author in the genre, but not a new reader. I’ve been around for a few
years, and I feel more welcome here than I do in my real life.
Because
this genre also means realization to me. Before discovering it, I’d never realized
I didn’t have to be a woman, even though that’s how I was born. I’d never
realized I had a choice. I’m still not sure I do. The people in my real life
would think nothing of shunning me if I ever took that step and embraced who I
am rather than who I should be.
But
I know that if I do, I won’t be alone. And that’s why this community is
important, to me and to so many other people.

What does the genre mean to
me?
The
M/M genre has brought back my love of writing. I have dabbled in writing in the
past but the love of M/M stories that I read every day has brought my love of
writing back to the forefront. This community of LGBT authors is so supportive
of each other; they cheer each other on and are there for support. I have made
many amazing friends through this genre and am proud to be part of it. I love
what this community stands for; the right to love and be loved no matter who or
what you are. I am happy to have contributed to the M/M genre with my first
book Hunter and hope to continue to do so.

What does this genre mean to
me?
The
M/M genre and community have come to mean the world to me. I’ve struggled for
what seems to be my whole life to find my home. I have a wonderful family and
my husband and kids are the best. Not to mention many fantastic friends, but
I’ve never felt so at home as I do in my M/M world. With all the people
mentioned above—save my husband, as he’s my soulmate—I’ve found many things
that I have in common with them, but never a group of people that were truly
just like me. I’ve found so many friends, so much support, and so many people
that think and feel like I do that it’s been eye opening. To be accepted,
fully, flaws and all, by so many great people in our community, has been
humbling. I feel like I’ve found my tribe.

What’s this genre mean to
me?
A place to belong. I had a long time in my life that had
nothing but my family and it wasn’t until I started writing/publishing and
found this community that I had people in my life that shared my dreams, my
thoughts and my life. I honestly don’t think I’d feel as comfortable anywhere
else

What’s this genre mean to me?
I
first found m/m stories in fandom, where writers probed beneath what’s
presented on screen or in books, and twisty imaginations started the 'what-if'
game: what if John is gay and loves Rodney, or Harry loves Draco, or... or...
the possibilities were endless. Fandom, too, gave me a real sense of community,
of being part of a group of people who got it, who shared the love. When
I moved to professional publishing, I was delighted that the community here is
as strong as fandom. That here, too, I'd find not just readers and other
writers, but friends. While we’re now bonding over bigger issues around LGBT
rights—around basic human rights—the love is still being shared. And when the
world is getting a little darker, that is worth celebrating.

What’s this genre mean to me?
"As
a writer of historical m/m tales, I adore the LGBTQ fiction genre because our
stories not only celebrate romance, love, friendship, and sexual desire but
they also remind everyone that queer people have always and will always shape
the course of human history. Survive, thrive, protect, and cherish. Our
community of readers, writers, and artists is the most generous and supportive
group of folks I've ever met."

What’s this genre mean to
me?
I’m
a Russian author, but I had to write my M/M book in English because there are
no LGBT romance publishers in my country at all. Sometimes I get asked why we
women read and write M/M. Maybe
that’s because a same sex relationship isn’t defined by gender roles and
stereotypes, and it’s inspiring. LGBT stories are always, in one way or
another, about being brave enough to be who you truly are, no matter what the
world thinks of you and expects of you. I suppose it’s something many women can
relate to.
