Review
In my humble
opinion, there are few things better than reading a favorite author and
realizing that, once again, they have managed to surprise you. With any genre,
but especially in romance, it seems like so many fall back to the easy way of
doing things, and the plots sometimes aren’t the most fascinating, or the
characters repeats of earlier work. In the case of Lily Morton, I know I never
have to worry about any of that and her newest book, Gideon, just goes to prove why she is one of the best. It’s not
every author that can take a character that had few, if any, redeeming
characteristics and make me fall in love with them before the first chapter is
even complete!
If you are a
fan of Lily’s Finding Home series (and if you’re not, I really have to question
your life choices, for serious) you know that Gideon Ramsay is a bit of an
asshole. And really a bit is being generous. His introduction definitely left a
lot to be desired, and I went into his book a tad wary of how Lily was going to
turn this guy around. After reading everything Morton has written to date, I
should have known better. What I got was a flawed, complex, vulnerable,
incredibly swoony and sweet and tender character that tugged every one of my
heart strings in about three pages. Add the charming, kind, sexy Eli Jones, and
I was hooked.
When Gideon
has a brush with death that’s a little too close for comfort for his brother,
Milo and his best friend, Niall, Milo takes it upon himself as Gideon’s next of
kin to sign Gideon up for a cruise to recover from his illness and get a break
from his crazy, fame-filled world. As a well-known actor, Gideon hasn’t ever
really had time to just be himself away from the cameras and paparazzi, and
Milo is sure that a cruise is just what he needs. He also needs a nurse to help
him while he recuperates and thus Eli is in the picture. There is an instant
attraction there between the two, but it’s the friendship that grows that
really got to me.
Gideon is my
favorite kind of character. Snarky and grumpy and a bit aloof but underneath
there is a vulnerable side that hits every single one of my buttons. As for
Eli, well he was just joyful and magnetic and sexy and I loved these two
together. Both on the ship and then when they are together at Chi an Mor, there
was romance and swoon galore. I love the banter between Gideon and Eli and the
tender moments were enough to melt me into a puddle. As with all of Lily
Morton’s books, there’s so much comfort and love and joy spread throughout the
book. Lots of humor and heart, too, and the sense of family is always present.
And of course, lots of scenes with Milo, Niall, Silas and Oz just made it all
the better. I truly hope there are more books to come because I’m not ready to
say good bye to any of these wonderful characters any time soon! Check out Gideon, and make sure you read all the
books in the series, they are not to be missed!
EXCERPT
“Round the block?” he
intones in a gloomy voice.
I nod. “Yes, please.”
The car moves off
slowly. He examines my face in the mirror. “You okay, sir?”
I look up, surprised.
“Of course,” I say abruptly. Then I ask, “Why?”
He shrugs, returning his
attention to the road. “You don’t look so good, Mr Ramsay.”
“Oh Russ, you old
charmer, you,” I drawl, slugging some more tequila. “What’s with the ‘sir’ and
‘Mr Ramsay’ business anyway?”
He ignores the question.
He’s more passive-aggressive than Taylor Swift. “You haven’t eaten properly for
a few days now,” he says instead in a concerned voice.
“I have eaten,” I say
crossly.
“Tequila and vodka
aren’t any of the major food groups.”
I shrug. “I had a
Pop-Tart this morning.”
“You had that yesterday
and very charmingly regurgitated it into a jasmine bush earlier on.”
“I’m fine,” I say
dismissively.
“I surely hope you are,”
he says wryly. “Because you’ve got your hands full tonight.”
I shake my head,
thinking of the two men I’m about to get into bed with and looking down at my
very disinterested cock. “Russ, you’d need a medium and a séance to bring my
dick back to life tonight.”
He laughs loudly and
then sobers. “Maybe you should call it a night then. Go to bed on your own for
a change, sir.”
“Okay, Nanny McPhee. And
maybe I’d be better with a box of tissues and a wi-fi connection.” I sigh.
“Actually, that sounds a lot quieter.” I stare blearily at the back of his grey
head. “I hope you also know that tagging the word sir on the end of a
sentence doesn’t make it any less bossy.”

romance novels, and specialises in hot love stories with a good dose of
humour.
Lily lives in sunny
England with her husband and two children, all of whom claim that they haven’t
had a proper conversation with her since she bought her first Kindle.
She has spent her life
with her head full of daydreams and decided one day to just sit down and start
writing about them. In the process she discovered that she actually loved
writing, because how else could she get to spend her time with hot, funny men!
