What does this genre mean to me?

This community and genre for me are about protest. It’s a raised fist. A resounding call that love is love. We weave words, sentences, and paragraphs into sweeping portraits of beauty in every shade of the spectrum. A community that breeds inclusiveness for all. Lesbian. Gay. Ace. Trans. Bisexual. Pansexual. And everyone in between and beyond. We can be butch. We can be femme. We can be nonconforming. We can read stories of yourselves with the flip of a page or a swipe of the screen. We can just be us. This community is a call for freedom and expression. It’s inclusion. A safe space for all. That’s what belonging to this group of amazing writers and artists means to me.

What does this genre mean to me?

I'm absolutely in love with this genre. M/M romance stories make me dream, giving me emotions that I don't feel when reading other books.
These stories make me hope for a better world.
Because love does what he wants. As the old saying goes, love is the answer.

What does this genre mean to me?

The LGBT community means so much more to me than readers. It is a reminder that no matter who you are, no matter where you come from, no matter who you love, you are a human being worthy of respect. I love the open-mindedness of this community and only wish the rest of the world could be half as accepting.

What does this genre mean to me?

McKay and I are so grateful for the love and support of the M/M community. All our readers, co-authors, and facebook friends have enriched our lives more than we can express. We feel blessed to have been able to share our stories with so many wonderful people, and look forward to many more years and many more stories to come!

What does this genre mean to me?

This community is the closest I’ve come since high school (which was a long long time ago now!) to finding My Kind of People. I feel I can be something close to my true self here. In this world, that is truly precious and rare.

What does this genre mean to me?

For me, the LGBTQ genre means acceptance and love. It’s the understanding that different means beautiful, not weird, and that everyone is deserving of a happily ever after. It means we band together to fight social injustice and we have each other’s backs. There may be times that we disagree—sometimes heatedly—but when the chips are down we come together and lift one another up. My favorite thing is the diversity of our storytellers and the courageous way they openly share their lives so that others might find comfort. I feel like I’m a part of something much bigger than myself and I’m encouraged to give more, love harder, and be a better person than I was the previous day.

What does this genre mean to me?

GLBT romance is near and dear to my heart. I began writing original gay romance in 2000 and began publishing it in 2003. I feel like the genre has grown up with me, and I've met the most amazing people through it. I couldn't be more proud to know so many diverse readers and writers.

What does this genre mean to me?

This is my home, an incredibly proud and welcoming community, quick to help, to work together, to fight for our rights. It's a place where I can be myself, where I'm accepted the way I am and where I'm liked. I've been bullied in school, I've battled depression for a long time, and the LGBTIQ community showed me there are more people like me-- not normal, not always fitting in society-- and through them, I'm finally proud of who I am.
I've seen the support we can give those in need, and it's made me proud to be a part of this community.
First, I was glad to have a home, to have friends. And now, after years in the community, I can say I'm proud to be part of it.

What does this genre mean to me?

I have always loved reading MM books, even when people attempted to bully me because of it. Where I come from, it's not exactly normal to openly admit that you enjoy reading gay fiction. But I kept on reading because for me, love is love, and I will continue to support and always fight for equality. I will fight for my sisters, friends and strangers who have been ostracised for simply falling in love. This community is not just a part of my life, it's family to me now. You guys were there for me when nobody else was, you encouraged me to keep writing, to keep on fighting, and for that I will forever be thankful. I hope my books make you smile. Or blush. Or at least look over your shoulder and hope no-one can see what you're reading! ;)

What does this genre mean to me?

For me, the m/m romance genre means spreading tolerance and acceptance. As a reader, m/m books captured my heart with their messages of love against difficult odds. The community created by this genre represents a safe place to share a message of inclusion and acceptance of all. These books create allies for a wide spectrum of LGBTQIA people, and I count that a win. As a writer, I also feel so thankful for the supportive readers who are more than willing to explore new authors and support indie authors at a level few other genres see. I hope to write many more books, and I hope by extension they and all the other m/m books out there will create more allies in the world.

What does this genre mean to me?

To me the MM community represents hope. I found MM romance initially as a reader just before my eldest son came out. I was expecting his revelation and needed to know there were positive stories about loving same sex couples. What I found blew me away. There are so many wonderful people who not only love the genre but care deeply about representing the community and voicing support in times of political and social upheaval. As a reader, author and as a mother, I thank you. Love, hope and equality matter.
