Synopsis

Drew Singer, aka Brock Kipwell, had played Slade Donovan, action hero, for five years. When gunfire at the premiere of his new Slade outing, kills his personal assistant and shatters his hip, Drew leaves L.A. for the little village in North Yorkshire where he grew up. All he wanted to do was spend some time with his grandmother shut away from the world. But there was one thing he hadn’t counted on… the presence of his childhood friend, and first love, Cameron McDonald.

Cameron McDonald was Yorkshire born and bred. He still lived and sometimes worked on his parents’ farm, while he ran his own gardening business. Life was plodding along nicely, until he walked into Marty Singer’s kitchen to find she had a new house guest. They'd been boyhood friends, best friends, until the summer they turned fifteen, their final summer--when they’d become so much more.

Ten years have passed and their attraction to each other is as strong as ever. But Cam is dealing with his troubled friend, Ed’s, problems, and Drew is carrying so much survivor’s guilt he can barely stand the weight of it. Is this their second chance? Will either of them grab it with both hands? Or is there something waiting in the dark that neither of them expected?

Review

After being shot on the red carpet at his film premier, Andrew heads home to recover. He lost his best friend and got nastily injured himself.
Home after ten years, home is at his grandma’s house, away from every camera and paparazzi, he can try to heal and regroup his life.
Looking through his bedroom window, into his grandma’s garden, he sees a mouth licking gardener at work. He is totally shocked to know it is Cameron, his Cameron! He is more shocked to know Cam is the same kind soul he used to be.
They pick up where they left off and just fit together as if they never parted. The difference between them is not who they are, only what they do, a gardener and a movie star.

So, we got: an excelled gardener and an injured movie star, put this together in a room and mix them with old memories and friendship with a lot of feelings, shake this up and what comes out is true joy, tremendous humor, passionate friendship, hot encounters, and commitment.

Cam is a free, honest spirit, spits out everything that’s on his mind, and as a result there are a lot of flushed cheeks and laughter. He is such a delight.
Drew is a bit more collected, mostly because of his work as an actor and holding up appearances. When he lets his guard down, the warmest, beautiful, and playful soul shows up.

There was an atmosphere throughout the whole book with humor, positivity, and lightness.
The jokes and witty comments were so funny, I snorted more than once or laughed out loud.
Cam, Drew, grandma, and more people you will meet while reading, are all a bit nuts in a very good way!

I loved this story so much! The easygoing vibe was incredible to experience. No unnecessary drama to witness. There was some awful sharp and angsty revelations which was amazingly woven into this story. But the story was more about second chances, affection, generous love, true friendship, family, community and much more. Two kind, honest and witty men, clear about how they feel, with palpable passion. Together they were delightful and... delicious ;)
Altogether an awesome read!!

Synopsis

Life is full of decisions and it’s the split-second ones that change your world forever.

Nick Shepherd made such a decision on the day his son, Jesse, was taken from a Christmas market in Naperville. The woman looked normal and had a son of her own, and he was only going to be a minute. But that minute was all she needed. His son was gone.

A year later, the task force is being downsized and they are no closer to finding Jesse than they were the day he disappeared. At his wits end, Nick is given a number and a name by the lead on the case.

Ex-detective Frank Ford has issues, several of them. Two steps shy of a full-blown alcoholic, all he wants is to bury himself in the bottle. He’s doing a pretty good job of it, too, when Nick Shepherd asks for his help. Does Ford want to help? No. Is Ford going to help? Hell no. Until four words resonate deep within him.

“She took my son!”

Review

I first fell in love with Lisa Worrall with her Laurel Heights books. She brought such a depth to her mysteries that left you with that lingering haunted feeling. When I saw the synopsis for Looking for Jesse I knew she was taking us back to that feeling and I wasn’t wrong.

As a mother, reading books that involve children in a dark way affects me hard. I knew going in what I was dealing with but still you’re never really prepared, are you?

Jesse, as you can guess, is kidnapped when he goes to a Christmas village with his father. Pretty much every parent’s nightmare. And a year later he’s still missing. Yeah, I know… A whole year. The horrors he endures are beyond words. And my heart broke throughout this entire story.

It’s told through multiple POV’s. Nick, (the dad) Jesse, even the kidnapper! That was very interesting. And it was rough to read, each passing word but I was invested. I had to see Jesse get home. As I read on I realized it wasn’t just Jesse who needed to get home and then the race was on. Time was a huge factor in this story and I didn’t put the book down once. I couldn’t leave these characters in limbo.

Lisa Worrall writes suspense in a way that you feel it in your bones and it lingers like an unforgettable frostbite. You will not be able to stop until the end and even after that it will stay with you.

There were some over the top scenarios in this book and I felt some of it almost pushed me out of the story but it wasn’t enough that it made me want to stop.

Definitely, give this a go if you love suspense with some darkness.

Book of the Week: Solo Honeymoon by Lisa Worrall #Review

Author: Lisa Worrall
Book: Solo Honeymoon
Publisher: White Stiletto Press
Publication date: June 13, 2016
Length: 89 pages

Synopsis

Leo Barratt hadn't written his bucket list, but he was pretty sure there were several things he wouldn't have put on it. Like... waking up to a Dear John letter from his fiance, Eric, the day before their wedding... or going on his honeymoon - alone.

But, under the strict instructions of his mother, he found himself in Venice at Bauta, the beautiful bed and breakfast where he'd supposed to have started off married life. Instead, he planned to spend three weeks inside his room and wait for the pain to go away.

Or at least that's what he thought...

Bauta, was run by Matteo Leghissa and his mother, Luana. Used to getting his own way, Matteo refused to allow Leo to wallow in self-pity and appointed himself as Leo's official guide.

Apparently, falling in love with a beautiful stranger wasn't on Leo's bucket list either but.....

Review

Oh I loved this book. I mean, who doesn’t adore an unexpected love story. Poor Leo is stood up at the altar (pretty much) but takes his honeymoon alone anyway… ONLY to find the love of his life! *sigh* Yeah… I swooned!

Mateo is A-MAZ-ING! Truly. His backstory broke my heart. Like I SOBBED uncontrollably for a good 10 minutes. But even HE gets a happily ever after. Two broken, sad men who save each other.

Lisa Worrall wrote wonderful characters. The setting was gorgeous and her descriptive writing really pulled me into the story. Like I was really in Venice. Don’t get me started on the food. I was shaking with hunger through this story. Then I made lasagna.

Lisa is such a versatile writer. Whether she’s writing murder mystery, or beautiful romance she masters it beautifully.

This is a fairytale of sorts and I enjoyed being swept away in the whirlwind
