Synopsis

When a hunky fireman and a gorgeous gold medalist meet on Guy Fawkes Night, sparks are sure to fly!

For fireman Rob Monteagle, this Guy Fawkes Night seems like it’s going to be anything but fun. After all, who wants to spend the noisiest night of the year saving careless cats from trees or rattling a fundraising bucket at Longley Magna’s annual bonfire, the pride of the village’s bad-tempered old retainer?

For Ollie Tresham, the night isn’t looking any better. He might have won gold in the Olympic showjumping ring yet he’s still expected to meet the public at his dad’s charity fireworks extravaganza. But when a rogue rocket heads straight for the showjumper, it takes a quick-thinking fireman like Rob to save the day.

As the flames of the bonfire smolder, Rob and Ollie’s night is just getting started. And it’s sure to go with a bang!

Review

Rob has tried his best to get along and make friends in his new post at Longley Magna but between the grumpy old sod who has to question every form he’s requested from Rob in order to host a private fireworks display and the seeming lack of other gay blokes in town, Rob has had a bit of a problem fitting in. Then the horse riding captain Rob’s seen more than once and admired from afar asks him to rescue a naughty feline and it sparks the beginning of something that Rob hopes will burst into flame. There’s only one hitch--the lovely Ollie Tresham may just be related to that belligerent sod who doesn’t think too highly of poor Rob.

The team of Eleanor Harkstead and Catherine Curzon have given us a wonderfully cute/meet and swift burning romance in their new short story, The Captain’s Flirty Fireworks from their Captivating Captains series. With two delightful characters and a humorous discovery scene of exactly who it is that Rob fancies, this little gem has all the right ingredients to be a sweet and whimsical love story complete with the saving of a cute kitten to boot.

All the elements are here for a short flight into an insta-like/lust attraction that has all the potential to become a full blown romance. I would love to see more of Ollie and Rob and the town’s inhabitants. These two authors have such a talent for creating an entire community of wacky people that surround their two main characters with all the humor and affection one would hope to find in a small village. This story is particularly sweet and funny and one I think romance lovers will really appreciate. I just loved it.
