To Teofilo Vabriga-Kastav, playboy prince of the tiny nation of Porvunia and passionate art lover, Cal’s paintings are as intriguing as Cal himself. When Teo invites Cal to his country for an art competition, a whirlwind romance sweeps them up. But it can’t last—loyalties and obligations bind them to lives that are worlds apart.<

Cal and Teo might’ve found their perfect complements in each other, but to hold on to their happiness, they’ll have to get creative.

Review

Was it sentimental and emotional? Yes! Was it a fairytale? kind of but it was also much more! I loved everything about it.

Meet Cal aka Calvin Walters rising artist from a small town, Peril, in Nebraska and Teo aka His Royal Highness Prince Friedrich Aleksej Josef Vissente Teofilo, Duke of Vidac, Earl of Kramitz.

Teo is in love with the art coming from Cal’s hand, after meeting Cal in person he is falling even more in love with the man himself.
Teo has organized an art contest in his small country and wants Cal to tribute three parts to it.
Cal is smitten by this beautiful, elegant, aristocratic man. After watching Teo’s Instagram, Cal understands he is just one in a long line. Still, Cal agrees and travels to Teo’s tiny kingdom in Europe.
Staying with Teo in his castle, Cal gets special treatment. No men from the row have entered these rooms before. They fall in love quite strongly and comfortably. Cal knows it’s too good to be true and a broken heart will be next.

What a well thought out, gracious, beautifully detailed and layered story. I was so smitten with it. It was written with a passion and that made this tale even more appealing. It had bittersweet moments, which crushed my heart, also funny times that made me laugh.
You could expect this could be a sappy story while reading the blurb, it was far from that!
I prefer to call it an excellently positive and vibrant story!
Even though I thought the whole story was, at first sight, lighthearted it’s quite more than that, it has an intelligent plot and all thoroughly developed. The way the love of art was woven into this story, the importance of authentic roots and family was impressive! The story around the passionate work with charity-funding and, above all, how the love, emotions and the romance was shining blindly, it was just everything!

We got a saying in my country I’m not sure it’s universal:
‘’I don’t have to swim in money, just paddling is enough’’
Money isn’t everything, but hey it’s handy. It opens doors for you and when spent well, by that it also opens them for others, that was important here!

An awfully well written story, extremely kind and uplifting, it radiated feelings like the sun always shines, even behind thick clouds!
It’s all about possibilities, opportunities, caring, expanding your focus and faith in the future.

Synopsis

Elliott Thompson was once a historian with a promising academic future, but his involvement in a scandal meant a lost job, public shame, and a ruined love life. He took shelter in his rural California hometown, where he teaches online classes, hoards books, and despairs of his future.

Simon Odisho has lost a job as well—to a bullet that sidelined his career in law enforcement. While his shattered knee recovers, he rethinks his job prospects and searches for the courage to come out to his close-knit but conservative extended family.

In an attempt to manage his overflowing book collection, Elliott builds a miniature neighborhood library in his front yard. The project puts him in touch with his neighbors—for better and worse—and introduces him to handsome, charming Simon. While romance blooms quickly between them, Elliott’s not willing to live in the closet, and his best career prospects might take him far away. His books have plenty to tell him about history, but they give him no clues about a future with Simon.

Review

Sometimes the perfect book is one that kind of sneaks up on you. One that's kind of quiet, with low angst and characters that are easy to relate to, and the story pretty much just ambles along from beginning to end with no major highs or lows. That's what I found in Kim Fielding's new release, The Little Library. The blurb caught my attention when I first saw it because I find the idea of a little library utterly charming and while Kim isn't an author I've read very often, what I have read, I've enjoyed immensely so I couldn't wait to see what The Little Library was all about.

Elliot Thompson and Simon Odisho are two characters that you just can't help but fall in love with. Both are trying to overcome life changing events in their careers and are in the process of starting over, or trying to at least. When they meet they are immediately attracted to one another, if a bit awkward. Their first date had me smiling and laughing so much they were just so endearingly adorkable. Things progress so naturally between the two and there is next to no angst that comes up. Simon is not out to his family and while this is a stumbling block, it's not a big one and I so appreciated that.

This is a slow burn romance with lots of heart and feelings. It's about books which is a subject near and dear to my heart. It's about friendship and family and starting over. If you're looking for a book that will make you feel good and smile, then check out The Little Library. You won't be sorry you did!

Synopsis

Small but mighty—that could be Detective Nevin Ng’s motto. Now a dedicated member of the Portland Police Bureau, he didn’t let a tough start in life stop him from protecting those in need. He doesn’t take crap from anyone, and he doesn’t do relationships. Until he responds to the severe beating of a senior citizen and meets the victim’s bow-tied, wealthy landlord.

Property manager and developer Colin Westwood grew up with all the things Nevin never had, like plenty of money and a supportive, loving family. Too supportive, perhaps, since his childhood illness has left his parents unwilling to admit he’s a strong, grown man. Colin does do relationships, but they never work out. Now he’s thinking maybe he won’t just go with the flow. Maybe it’s time to try something more exciting. But being a witness to a terrible crime—or two—was more than he bargained for.

Despite their differences, Colin and Nevin discover that sparks fly when they’re together. But sparks are short-lived, dampened by the advent of brutal crimes, and Colin and Nevin have seemingly little in common. The question is whether they have the heart to build something lasting.

Review

Kim Fielding's new book, Love is Heartless, is the second book in her Love Can Conquer series, and it's even better than the first one! Full of tons of emotion, two memorable and extremely charismatic characters, and a story line that will pull you in right from the beginning, this book is a gem and truly not to be missed. And yes, this is the second book in the series, but I don't see anyone having trouble reading this as a stand alone, even though it runs concurrently to the first book. Besides, Nevin and Collin are such wonderful characters, you'll be in love with them from the first page.

Nevin is a detective who investigates crimes against the disabled and elderly. He's also prickly as a porcupine, as foul-mouthed as any sailor, and also defiantly bisexual. He's a bit of a loner--his group of friends includes his best friend Jeremy and a few others-- and is definitely anti-relationship, but he's got no problem with one night stands. And though he's only 5'4" his personality is much, much bigger. All that being said, he's extremely likable and when he crosses paths with the bow tie-wearing good boy Collin due to a murder, well, the sparks start flying all over the place. Nevin is intrigued, no matter how much he wishes he wasn't, and Collin has his sights set on the sexy detective with the bad ass purple car and doesn't plan on letting Nevin put him off.

The friendship that grows into something more between these two was fabulous and fun. There might be a mystery as to who is preying upon the elderly, but that doesn't stop the romance between these two ... or the dirty and hot loving that ensues. And lemme tell you, sweet somewhat fragile Collin getting all bossy in the bedroom was something else! There is more to these two than just great sex though, and that was just as fun to watch develop into the soul deep connection these two have with one another. Neither has really fit in anywhere, but in the other person, they've found that special someone that just gets them. It was so satisfying watching Nevin, even as terrified as he was, fall under Collin's charms and lower his walls. And when he meets Collin's family and they readily accept him ... it'll melt your heart for sure.

This was a fantastic book. Strong writing, intriguing, cohesive plot, and all the characters were fully developed and well-rounded. I was so thoroughly engrossed in these characters and this story that I read it in one sitting ... I couldn't put it down. I would recommend reading the first book of the series, just because it's also good, but definitely don't let this one pass you by!!

Review

All of these Advent stories are beyond different. Some are funny, some more serious, others paranormal, and in Anyplace Else it was more urban fantasy than anything else. I will say it was very unique. However, it was also a bit haunting and by its end I wasn’t sure if it was really a happy ending at all. I suppose one would label it HFN.

Grant is in Hawaii for his twin’s wedding and it starts off cute. He’s depressed, lonely, hates his job. He flirts with the cute waiter all that. Then he takes a walk and the story gets a little strange.

I won’t give much away but he encounters Gods. And through the story he encounters Gods of different kinds and times. For a short story it was a lot to take in a small period of time. Perhaps if it was longer I could have worked more of it out in my head and even understood it a little better.

It is absolutely a unique addition to the Bah Humbug Advent Calendar and there were parts I was fascinated with. But on the whole I found it daunting and sad.
