Synopsis

Welcome to Brawlers Bar…

If there was a way to completely destroy his life, Hunter Black would do it. He was a catastrophe waiting to happen. Survival was his only priority and having to leave his old life behind that meant a job of the legal variety. He’d found one as a bartender at Brawlers Bar and a safe place in a huge house with the rest of the bar crew who quickly became the family he’d never had. The one thing Hunter didn’t need was his old life tracking him down.

Deputy Wren Gramble hated his job and his weekend assignment of staking out a bar in the middle of nowhere waiting for drunks. Although he’d heard the homophobic and racist jokes going around about the crew and customers, he kept his head down and stuck to his job and nothing else. He despised being driven back into the closet, but he’d reached the end of the line and what he’d do if he earned another transfer he didn’t know.

Linus Trenton was considered the normal one in his family and according to the weird ones that meant he should be punished on a daily basis. He never came out one way or another, if he found someone attractive he was attracted. His life was complicated enough having a crush on the sweet and awkward Hunter but now he had to throw Wren into the mix. Linus didn’t have time for dating or romance, most of the time he didn’t even think about having a sex life, although, Wren and Hunter were ruining his calm.

Hunter was in lust with the handsome deputy the minute the man pulled him over, but a man like that wouldn’t give him the time of day. His friend, Linus, was another matter all together. Hunter wanted both. His bosses made it work with their man, why couldn’t he? Could Hunter prove he wasn’t as much of a screw up as he appeared or would he have to call in backup to claim his men?

Review

I am a huge J.M Dabney fan. No secret there! I've read all her books from her Twirled World Ink books all the way over to her Brawlers books. I will read long after this one too. I know people say you can read these as standalones, and while I sort of agree with that, I encourage you to read this in order. Each book deals with a new couple, or throuple. But the secondary characters are important. We see them throughout both series and they add something to the story. So while you can grab Hunter and read it alone you'll feel so much more if you read them together.

If you read Scary (JM's Twirled World Series) you know she can write ménage. In Hunter we have another one of those precious gems. Our characters are Hunter, of course, you've seen him in the other books. Super accident prone. You want to wrap him in bubble wrap and walk with him everywhere you go to keep sharp objects away from him. Deputy Wren is another MC. The deputy part tells you what he does for a living. He's the new guy on the force and not there to make trouble with the guys at Brawlers. He attracted to Hunter and it's adorable watching Hunter try and understand why. And the third guy in this throuple is Linus.... Lucky's brother (From Twirled World Ink) See what I'm saying about characters entwining? Anyway, He's rough and tough and can't seem to tell Hunter how he feels.... until he sees Wren scooping in.

Now I thought for a bit this was going to be a polyamorous situation. Nothing wrong with that just that Linus didn't seem to like Wren very much but the common denominator was Hunter and neither wanted to give him up. But, nope in this case it's an enemy of my lover is also my lover situation.

Really an awesome addition to this already fabulous series. Lots of action, hilarity, amazing characters! Seriously, that's my favorite part of all of JM's books. Her characters are just outstanding!

Excerpt

1 Did You Just Trip Over Air?

Hunter Black opened his calendar app and inputted his accident list of the day. His large hands quickly tapped the screen.

Accident 1: Stabbed himself with a corkscrew

Accident 2: Squirted lemon juice into my eye.

Accident 3: Possible concussion from tripping over air.

Fourth and Final: I walked into a brass knuckle enforced punch thrown by his coworker Psycho.

He was a fuck up, he knew it, and everyone else did too. He straddled his bike in the empty parking lot of Brawlers Bar where he worked. All he wanted was one damn day where he didn’t attempt to kill himself. From the moment he took his first step it was downhill from there. By the time he was five, his medical record was an inch thick. Burns, broken bones, accidents big and small. Inside the manila folder didn’t always give the truth. Not all his wounds were accidents. His parents loathed the odd child they had been cursed with, and they showed him just how unwanted he was.

All he had wanted was their love. Instead, he received pain and fear. When his I.Q. was tested, he had become more of an oddity. At sixteen, he’d graduated from high school and headed to college, homeless.

He turned his phone off and slipped it into his jacket pocket. Hunter raised his hands and slipped his reading glasses off. He didn’t want to remember, that wasn’t this life anymore, and he had new family and friends. A home he wouldn’t have to worry about losing. Warm and never hungry. He shook his head and glanced around the parking lot.

Scary and Tank’s bikes were still parked in their reserved spots, their husband Elijah was inside with them. Everyone else already left for the night. He picked up his helmet where it was balanced between his thighs and lifted it to pull it on.

The Sheriff’s cruiser was still parked across the street. Local law enforcement loved to give them shit, but he’d noticed the same deputy assigned every weekend for at least the last year. Crave said the guy seemed cool and didn’t give them shit, the only people he’d pulled over were visibly drunk when they started their vehicles. He closed the visor and started his bike, he pulled out slowly and headed toward home.

He slowed even more as he passed the deputy. The interior of the car was dark so he couldn’t see what the guy looked like. He didn’t know why he cared. He had another two years of probation, he didn’t need to be fucking with cops—even friendly ones. Once he was far enough away, he accelerated, and the deep growl of his engine brought a smile to his face.

It was the one place he felt free. He wasn’t Hunter Black the fuck up ex-con. When he’d been sixteen, a crew approached him. It was a simple hack job. They just needed a few alarm systems deactivated. He could do that shit in his sleep. The money was easy, and he never went inside, just shut down the systems, and the crew took care of the rest. Except for the last job that went from bad to worse.

First degree Grand Theft charge on his eighteenth birthday. He’d taken one step into the building, one, Hunter hadn’t touched anything, and nothing was found on him except his laptop and phone. None of that mattered when the crew removed almost two hundred thousand in diamonds from a safe.

It was an old fucking cliché, eighteen and in his third year of college. Kid from a bad neighborhood making good, but his scholarship only went so far, and he had to live. The full academic ride didn’t pay for a place to live or food. He fucked up like he always had and he’d paid for it with five years and another five years’ probation.

He liked the Brawlers Crew. He had a nice room and a job that paid well. Hunter wanted more, but what that was he didn’t know.

His headlight hit a set of eyes in the middle of the road, so he swerved to avoid hitting whatever it was. Which he learned was a mistake as flashing lights, and a siren rose above the sound of his engine.

Shit, his stomach had started twisting as he slowly pulled to the side. He kicked down the stand and removed his helmet. Just stay cool, Hunter, just explain—holy fuck, he turned his upper body almost completely around as he’d caught sight of the deputy. His compact body shown off in the uniform. The shirt strained across a broad muscled chest, and the short sleeves barely contained the mass of large biceps.

He must live in a gym. Hunter was big but genetics attributed to that, and he also sported a bit of a belly. His arms were covered in hair, but the deputy’s skin was smooth. The few men he’d hooked up with since his release complained about his hairy body. Why the fuck was he thinking about that? He was probably getting ready to be arrested.

“Sir, do you know why I pulled you over,” the deputy’s voice a soothing baritone.

Really, was that in the handbook to ask at every traffic stop? Don’t say it, Hunter, he ordered himself.

“I swerved.” He kept his answer short and to the point. If he learned one thing over his life, it was to keep his mouth shut around anyone with a badge.

“And why did you swerve?”

“My headlight caught on eyes in the middle of the road. I tried to avoid it.”

“Have you been drinking tonight, sir?”

“No, I was working, and I don’t drink.”

The deputy stepped closer and strong, broad features came into view. If not for the beard the guy looked young, maybe a few years older than his twenty-six.

“Can I see your license and registration?”

“Sure, I gotta reach into my backpack.”

“Go ahead.”

He tensed as he noticed the subtle move of the deputy repositioning his left hand on his sidearm.

Hunter swung his pack off his shoulders and pulled it around to his lap. He opened the zipper and reached inside for his wallet. He took out the cards and handed them to the deputy. The man used the flashlight to check the information.

“Mr. Black, I’m going to let you go, but be careful. These back roads aren’t exactly safe this late.”

He was surprised the deputy didn’t call it in, but he wasn’t going to complain. The man would look closer at him if the deputy knew his background.

“Thank you.” He reached out to take his cards back and slid them back into his wallet then his bag. Hunter zipped it and slipped his arms back into the straps.

“Have a good night, Mr. Black.”

“You too, be safe.” He didn’t know what made him say it, but it was already out, and he restarted his bike.

Hunter took off, speeding up to the limit and hoped to get home without another stop. Next time by a cop who wasn’t as friendly as the one he’d just pulled away from.

It was only another ten minutes before he pulled into the yard of the farmhouse. The porch light was still on, and he noticed a few lights burned dimly. Bull was probably just curling up with his husband, Gregory. Crave and Twitch would be trying to break their bed as they did every night. At least Psycho didn’t live in the house anymore. He was getting damned tired of listening to everyone get laid but him.

He didn’t want to think about how long since he’d been in a man’s bed. It wasn’t like he hadn’t tried. He’d even gone out on a few dates, but with his friends, background and jobs, it didn’t work out.

He parked and dismounted. Hunter stood back staring up at the house. Maybe he should just crash in the barn since it was quieter, and he wouldn’t get jealous of the happy couples.
He quietly jogged up to the porch and then inside, locking the door behind him. No one was around, but he heard Crave trying to make Twitch break glass with his screams. Bull and Gregory weren’t far behind.

He pulled his earbuds from his pocket and shoved them into his ears, then started his music as loud as he could stand. Hunter headed to his room at the back of the house. He closed the door and locked it.

Carefully, Hunter set his bag on his desk and started to strip, he walked toward the bathroom to wash off the scents of stale beer and alcohol. The night couldn’t be over fast enough. In the bathroom, he removed his earbuds, then the last of his clothes and looked into the mirror.
Hunter pinched his love handles, then cupped his stomach giving it a little shake. He didn’t have an issue with his body, but he hadn’t really found anyone who liked it. Thoughts of the gorgeous deputy filled his head, and he groaned. Not going there, he spun away from the mirror.
He quickly started the shower and stepped beneath the slowly warming spray.

“Tomorrow will be a better day,” he repeated in a whisper and didn’t believe a damn word he said.

Welcome to Brawlers Bar...

They said men only get better with age, all distinguished and all that BS, but Archer “Bulletproof” Woods hadn’t gotten better. At fifty-six he was still as much an asshole as he’d been in his twenties and thirties, hell, maybe he was worse. Being a bouncer at a bar called Brawlers suited him just fine, and he even tolerated the rest of the crew who’d taken up residence in his house when they’d had nowhere else to go. He was big, growly and homely that kept the parade of men passing through Brawlers at arm’s length for the past decade. One night changed all that.

What he’d thought was happily ever after turned into a nearly five-year nightmare. Gregory Charles appeared to have it all, a successful business, sophistication, and a perfect marriage. His friend and best employee, Landon, begged him to come out to a friend’s bar to celebrate Landon’s anniversary. What could it hurt? A night without contemplating the hell that would come down on him the moment he served his husband with divorce papers would do him good. That is until he met the brooding older man staring into a whiskey straight ignoring everyone around him.

Watching for trouble was his job, and Gregory screamed mistake as soon as the long, lean and handsome man sat down beside him. But he also knew when someone was in over their head, and Gregory needed someone to watch his back. That someone was Bull, only time would tell if he’d have to fight Gregory as much as the man after him.

 Review

I want to be "reviewer professional" when it comes to this review but the fangirl in me is trying to bust through. Why? BECAUSE IT'S BULL! I have been waiting for this silver fox daddy for what feels like ages!!! So, when it came time for his turn I was so freaking excited! He is worth the wait.
Through all the books we see him as a "father figure" in a sense. A bit meaner and he always threatens to evict his "sons" but yeah, he's the oldest and he allows them to dwell there. But he loves them. He busts their balls but he'd jump in front of a bullet for anyone of his guys.
When we meet Gregory we know something is seriously wrong. It doesn't take long to find out what- the what will break your heart- and when Landon needs help saving his boss, he goes to Bull. Bull is a fixer and by the end of this book you will adore him and Gregory so much you won't want it to end.
There was a conflict for Bull and Gregory. It came in the form of their age difference. This was their personal issue. And I saw both sides of it but I'm ridiculously unjudgemental and slapped those boys in the back of the head. The sex? Oh, sweet baby Jesus! *fans self* Kinky and all the "OH, DADDY!" Prepare yourselves.

There's also suspense here. And probably one of the most suspenseful books to date. I loved it so much. I was sweating and nervous and on the edge of my seat for it. I can't give anything away but there's justice to be served in this one for sure.

JM Dabney doesn't write stories about super models and six pack guys. These are raw, gritty, real people. They have scars, and bellies, they have age and emotional issues. They all have an ugly story that has made them who they are. But with each passing book JM gives each heathen their prince and a happily ever after!

LOVED IT!

 Excerpt
The sun began to crest above the tree line as Archer “Bulletproof” Woods squeezed his hand around the water bottle he wished was an ice-cold beer or a glass of bourbon. The plastic crinkled and threatened to collapse in his big hand. It was ten years, two months and thirteen days since his last drink. Most days he got through it without thinking about it, but moments like tonight it clawed at his gut and was a rage he barely suppressed.

Every night at work he ended his shift by staring into a double of his favorite bourbon. Reminding himself of why he was sober. Repeating the count and adding a new day, yet tonight he’d almost taken that drink. Imagined savoring the smoky burn as aged liquor flowed over his tongue and down his throat. Bull would let it warm all the places that were cold inside him—the dead places.

At eighteen he’d done what was expected of him. He’d married his high school sweetheart. Polly, a beautiful blonde with a figure most men would’ve drooled over, but not him. Bull had loved her like a friend, even after all these years they were still friends. It wasn’t long after the wedding he’d enlisted in the Marines. He had hoped it would have saved them from a miserable life together. That was nineteen-seventy-nine, he’d hopped a bus to boot camp and left a pregnant, frightened wife behind.

He’d served his country for twenty years before he’d retired and followed in his father’s footsteps as a blacksmith. Bull had been an asshole for most of his life. Muscular and macho, his sexuality above reproach. All the while he’d made him and his family suffer.

Forty-three years he’d lived in the closet, drank away his pain and denied to everyone including himself what he actually wanted. After over two decades of marriage, he’d asked for a divorce and drunkenly confessed to Polly he was gay. She’d accepted it quicker than he’d thought. They’d both lived in the hell of his making. Even if he couldn’t be happy, he wanted Polly and their son Hank to have a chance.

It had been thirteen years since he’d made the confession. The first couple of years he had stumbled his way along, one hookup after another, and it wasn’t what he’d expected. His coming out should have brought him a sense of freedom, but that’s not what he got.

He had been an alcoholic in his early forties; Bull was passed his prime and only trying to move on.

Over a decade later, Bull consisted of harsh, rough edges. A face that told his journey in deep lines and faded scars. He wasn’t pretty or soft, neither was he handsome. Bull was just homely and old at fifty-six. Security in a gay biker bar, nothing especially noteworthy. He played father to a group of men who lived in his house who were just as damaged as him.

The warmth of the sunrise touched his face, and he squinted his eyes. Bull should go inside and get some sleep, yet he didn’t want to crawl into his empty bed only to await his nightmares which never stopped raging inside him. Taunted by his regrets and where he thought he should be.

With a deep exhale, he pushed up from the rocking chair, turned to jerk open the screen door and walked inside. He made a detour in the kitchen to toss his water bottle in the recycle bin. The beautiful Twitch ran the house like his own. Twitch was a bartender at Brawlers and was married to the Head of Security, Crave. Their bosses, Scary and Tank stepped down to spend more time with their husband.

He headed for his bedroom on the second floor and once he was in his room he kicked the door shut behind him. Bull pushed his unbuttoned jeans off his hips and down his legs, then kicked them off. He crawled into his unmade bed and laid down, crossed his arms under his head.
His home turned into a Brawlers’ Crew halfway house. For a decade, he’d given the crew with no family or place of their own a home. He wouldn’t admit it, but he liked having other people in the house. It wasn’t so quiet. It was the distraction he needed.

Hunter was the newest member of the crew. He hadn’t quite figured out that boy yet. The man could fuck up breathing.

Psycho who lived up to his name most of the time moved into the cottage on the other side of the fence with his boyfriend a few months before, along with Bernie, Psycho’s ex-wife, and Bernie’s wife. They’d decided to co-parent a brood of potential kids. Stacey found out a few months ago she was pregnant. Shocked the fuck out of them all. They’d tried once. Apparently, Psycho wasn’t shooting dust like Bernie accused.

To be honest, how the fuck Crave and Psycho found men baffled him. Bull had gotten to the point he couldn’t even find a fuck for the night. Although a few months of abstinence had turned into two years without more than his left hand to get off. He’d come out to have more than that, but it hadn’t worked out as he’d thought. His sobriety hadn’t given him the opportunity to find a man of his own.

He yawned wide until his jaw popped and flipped over onto his stomach. Bull wrapped his arms around his pillow and tucked it under his head. Hopefully, he was tired enough the nightmares wouldn’t come. He felt himself slowly drift to sleep.

Synopsis

Welcome to Brawlers Bar…

Life wasn’t easy when you were certifiable, Gerald “Psycho” Clemons lived on the fringes of society. Five years he hadn’t thought twice about riding with a group who saw most laws as flexible. When the leader of the group turned crazier than Psycho, he stepped in and made the man pay. He’d never been rewarded for his temper before, yet that’s what happened when he earned a permanent place and a job as a bouncer. Everyone walked a wide circle around him, and he liked it that way. One look from his cold black eyes and he had people backing up. Then he met a man who had to be crazier than him.

Decadence Bakery was Ben Morin’s dream come true, and he loved it, but he grew tired of his lonely existence. Six months earlier he’d turned on the open sign and hopefully changed his life for the better. Ben loved his small cottage in the middle of nowhere even with the 3 a.m. rumbling of motorcycles and loud music at the farm next door. Although one thing he didn’t love, was his new hobby of watching one of the terrifying men next door. What could a little harmless peek now and then hurt?

Sweet and older wasn’t his type, but Psycho couldn’t deny the need to possess the beautiful baker. It was stronger than even the insanity he barely kept at bay, could he have a man who looked passed it or would Ben run like all the rest?

Review

It's no secret I'm a fan of JM Dabney's work. I fell in love with her books with Twirled World Ink... Where it all started. During our time with that series we got glimpses of the Brawlers. You may remember Psycho from the book Scary. He's Elijah's bodyguard. The introduction to Psycho in that book was not likely one you'd ever forget. And though all these books are standalones, you really should read all the Twirled World Ink books.

Psycho wants a love like Scary and Tank have with Elijah. He doesn't know at all how to get a man like Elijah or Twitch. The poor man is so beyond clueless he had my sides hurting from laughing so hard.

Ben owns a bakery, Decadence Bakery, he's older than Psycho by a bit and he's a simple man. He's quiet, hes quite vanilla, and he's been burned by his former partner and boyfriend. Meeting Psycho is, well, like a door to the face .... literally!

My heart melted when it came to these two. As tough as Psycho is he's super soft inside. He's possessive of Ben but not in a horrible way. In a way that Ben never knew he wanted. Psycho opens his eyes to so much and in return Ben gives him the one thing Psycho craved more than anything... love.

This is an awesome book and with each Twirled Crew or Brawler that gets their happy ending it makes me happier and happier. Psycho will make you laugh and it will touch you, especially when you hear about Psycho's past. But it only makes you that much more happier that he has Ben in his life.
Great read!

Excerpt

Psycho scrubbed his hands over his head, then his face and a rumble worked up from his chest. He stood in the corner with his back to the wall as he focused and let his gaze scan the room. Unlike any other night, the crowd seemed to be behaving, more interested in the fuck they’d leave with than in fighting. He wanted a fight. He needed to work off hours’ worth of frustration.

The pretty man wasn’t interested in him. Shit, he didn’t want to think about it. No one could ever learn about what happened. He’d been gentle. He’d said nice things. Psycho had even been sweet. What the hell had he done wrong?

He flexed his fists. Why couldn’t he just be himself? He would’ve made sure Ben got off and let the man curl his soft body up next to his afterward. Psycho never cuddled before, but he had thought about trying.

He dropped his arms to his sides and stepped away from the wall to make his way to the bar. Psycho took his usual post with his back to the wall.

“Something to drink, Psycho,” Hunter asked as he placed his hands flat on the bar and leaned forward.

“Coffee.”

“You’re looking ready to kill.”

“Naw, I’m cool.”

“Yeah, I can see that.”

Hunter smiled and rolled his eyes as he set Psycho up with coffee. The other man wandered off to take care of the customers sitting at the bar.

Psycho wrapped one of his hands around the mug and lifted it to his mouth. Hunter was the newbie on the crew, and no one knew much about him. They weren’t close enough for Psycho to ask him for advice. He thought he’d had enough from Twitch and Elijah, maybe—no, he wasn’t going to Scary.

Scary did get himself Elijah and Tank, they were a strong triad. The devotion between the three clear to anyone who had seen them together or heard them talk about each other.
Ben Morin, the sexy little baker, was cute.

The man probably wouldn’t appreciate being called cute. Did anyone like to be called that? Older, sweet men weren’t exactly his usual hookup type, but he didn’t want to hook up, right? He wanted someone of his own. Ben had made it clear he wasn’t interested in Psycho.

He’d been told he was attractive, sexy even. He made sure his partners were satisfied. Why hadn’t the man wanted to go home with him? Psycho growled, set his mug down a little too hard and sloshed hot liquid over his hand. He didn’t even pay attention to the sting.

He was going to have to date. Yeah, he’d taken Bernie on dates, but they’d just went to the shooting range or the bar, then came home and fucked. It was never romance and flowers, did men like flowers?

Psycho was so fucking clueless. His next move was going to be one made of desperation. He stood with his coffee in hand and strode quickly toward Scary’s office. Tank had the door covered, and Elijah wasn’t there, so he knew the man was alone. Interrupting the man in the middle of fucking his man or men was a death sentence.
He raised his hand and knocked on the door.

“Enter,” Scary’s muffled voice barked from the other side.

Psycho took a deep breath and opened the door, he stepped inside.

“Psycho, problem?”

Scary stared at him with his usual scowl in place.

“Twitch and Elijah made me screw things up.”

“Is this about the dating advice?”

The other man had the nerve to laugh. He almost turned around and left the damn office. Psycho didn’t need to be made fun of, and no one ever dared to do it. Why the fuck had he thought he wanted to work here?

“You don’t have to sound so fucking amused.”

“I am, so, what did my man and Twitch tell you?”

“They said to be sweet and nice.”

Scary’s heavy brow rose. “And where’s the problem with that?”

“I fucked it up.”

“How did you do that? What’s so damn hard about asking someone on a date?”

Psycho lowered his head and rolled his eyes.

“Don’t tell me you asked some stranger to go home with you and fuck?”

“Why lie? We’re going to fuck why not get it out of the way?”

“Psycho, sit.”

“I don’t need more advice,” he grumped as he sprawled onto one of the chairs in front of Scary’s desk.

“I think you do.” Scary pushed the paperwork away and rested his forearms on the desk.

“Rule number one: Don’t ask a man to fuck unless you’re in a bar or club.”

“I don’t do well with rules.”

“You listen to Elijah just fine,” Scary continued, “Rule two: Ask a man on a date.”

“How?”

“Are you that fucking…never mind. You open your mouth, and you say, would you like to have dinner?”

“Dinner?”

“Yeah, Psycho, dinner, you know generally dates consist of people having dinner, maybe just coffee or drinks, and talking.”

“About what?”

“You’re frustrating as fuck, man, yourselves. You ask him about himself, likes, interests, you learn more than what he sounds like when you fuck him.”

“Okay, talking, I can do that.”

“Then you start with a kiss.”

“Already done.”

“What’re you talking about?”

“I met someone, he’s cute as fuck.”

“Cute?”

“Yeah, he got this sexy gray hair and a bit of a belly, laugh lines, that means he’s happy a lot, right?”

Scary closed his eyes and groaned as he scrubbed his hands over his face. The man opened his eyes and looked at him. “Where did you meet the cute man?”

“Bakery, Elijah suggested I get out more. So, I went to Nightingale’s, and there’s a new bakery next to it. I went in. The girl working the counter pushed open the door to the kitchen, and I heard a yell. She hit him in the face with the door. I was helpful.”

“Helpful?”

“Yeah, I asked her for a tampon for his nose, and I washed his face. I was all gentle and shit. I took care of him.”

“Did it seem to be going well?”

“Yeah, until,” Psycho grimaced.

“You asked him to fuck.”

“I told him I was going to take him home.”

“No, Psycho, no, you should have asked him on a date at that point.”

“It doesn’t matter he said he wasn’t interested in me.”

“Or was he just not interested in being a fuck toy for the big, cranky, scowling bastard named Psycho?”

“Oh,” Psycho let his head drop back as he stared up at the ceiling.

“Yeah, oh, why not try again? This time ask him to go out. If he says yes, pick a restaurant. I suggest Vincent’s. All the partners like the place.”

“Do men like flowers?”

“I’m sure some do. Elijah and Tank don’t care for them. I know Trouble takes them to Brody on anniversaries and stuff. Zerk makes Landon his favorite dinner. Priest, well, Lucky gets Priest presents all the time, but I don’t think flowers. You might have to learn more about, what’s his name?”

“Ben.”

“You’ll have to learn more about Ben. Everyone’s different.”

“Okay, so date him, don’t ask to fuck, and be nice. You’re all like a broken fucking record.”

“Then quit being such a moron about this. It’s all pretty self-explanatory. Now, get the fuck out of my office. I got payroll to do, then Tank and I have to get home to our man. We’ve got a meeting in the morning with Juvie’s guidance counselor. Last time it was about her protest against the school board’s objection to her plans to organize a GSA, fuck only knows what our daughter did this fucking time.”

“Elijah shut their asses down at the last meeting.”

A smile full of pride stretched Scary’s mouth wide.

“No one fucks with our kid that’s for sure.”

Psycho nodded and pushed up from the chair. The whole relationship thing was still confusing as fuck. He organized his thoughts into a plan as he walked from the office and got back to work.

She reads too much and loves to get lost in other worlds. Her favorite stories must include laughter and having the reader doing at least one double take. Thirty-something, forever restless she uses her stories to ground herself, and find her place of peace.
