This isn’t the life Cole dreamt of, but what choice does he have?

With his twenty-third birthday behind him, Cole Moreton now faces the shifter compatibility test which will decide his future. Testing positive means joining a pack and eventually taking the bite. Unfortunately, with enviable skills in self-defence and hand-to-hand combat, the kind of packs interested in him aren’t any he’d want to join.

Logan has been a member of the McKillan pack for most of his life. Pack is family and loyalty is everything, but when the shifter government turns out to be no better than the oppressive humans before them, he questions everything.

Right from their first meeting, Logan knows that a life with the McKillan pack isn’t right for Cole, but with his alpha taking a keen interest in Cole’s skills, Logan’s hands are tied. Mutual attraction builds between them, but acting on it is futile—helping Cole will put their lives at risk and an end to any future they could’ve had.

Review

This was quite an extraordinary story. Not a ‘regular’ shifter story. It had a wonderful and original world-building and a strong plot.

The time has come, Cole has to do ‘the’ test. Hopefully, he will not be compatible, so he won’t have to leave his family and be forced to join a pack.
Cole has quite some martial arts and other skills and the feared McKillan pack wants him because he can be useful for their position as a pack.

Logan, a member of the McKillan pack, has to bring Cole the results of the test and what his pack wants from him. Cole is opposed to everything Logan has to say and is opposed to everything the pack stands for. Logan wants to give him time and is very patient. They talk and talk and Logan has to convince Cole of the fact this is his destiny. Cole feels an attraction towards Logan and can’t understand why Logan does what he does.
Very unexpected Logan gives Cole an alternative and that is beyond what Cole could ever imagine.

This story had such surprising turns, I loved  that it was unpredictable and original.
The whole story had an amazing atmosphere, a combination of a shifter and human world.
It had a good amount of angst, moments where I was afraid of the ending. Both Cole and Logan were friendly, intense, very lovable and mature.
The story was written in an enchanting, captivating manner and had a strong and steady pace.
The buildup was incredibly done, it started small, kind and nice, with a little tension and the further in the story the more oppressive and the more dangerous it became. I was sitting on the edge of my seat and was anxious enough to bite my lip and stab my nails in my hand.
It was a story was wonderful, the whole scenery was excellent, the emotional and physical parts all with just the right tension. For me, this storyline could certainly be transformed into a movie, or maybe more a series, because it’s not the end, there will be more! I can’t wait!

One night can change everything…

Jesse Sykes has lived far longer than his youthful appearance suggests. Becoming a vampire after tragedy struck seemed the only option when his soul was shattered, after all he’s no stranger to having to hide what he is from the rest of the world. But eternal life isn’t without problems or heartache.

With a good job and great friends, Ian Moreton’s life would be almost perfect—if only he wasn’t in love with his best friend. His feelings are unrequited, and in an effort to move on, he takes a chance on a one-night stand with the handsome stranger he meets in a bar.

Jesse knows the risks of becoming attached to a human, but with neither of them looking for anything serious, where’s the harm? At least, that’s what Jesse thinks until his chemistry with Ian proves off the charts.

A second hook-up solidifies their connection…and brings Jesse to his senses. He scrambles to protect Ian from danger, but it’s already too late. With Ian unwittingly drawn into a world he knows nothing about, events are set in motion that will change both of their lives forever, and it’s up to Jesse to steer them safely through it.

Review

I will admit that Vampire stories are usually not my first go to stories but Annabelle Jacob’s Wounded Souls, was definitely not what I had expected. It was truly a remarkably well written story. It showed something that I was immediately hooked to and that was compassion. Yet, it definitely didn’t lack in nail biting scandal that caused my breathe to hitch quite a few times.

The author was so creative when she wrote this story, and I could see just by her words how important it was for the reader to fully understand that the coven of vampires she wrote about were not out to hurt the human race, but to coexistence with them. It was even more relevant when the character of Jesse, who regardless of his feelings towards his human lover, Ian, selflessly let him go even though it hurt him to walk away. Even his good intentions weren’t enough to save his Ian when jealously of another refused to let Jesse be happy. When a horrible chain of events happen leaving his dear Ian lying dead in an alley beyond Jesse’s control he mistakenly takes Ian’s choice away by turning him.

Jesse is such a caring and honest vampire and hates that he accidentally played a part of Ian’s change and went against their law, he wants to come clean in order to protect Ian from the threat that resides in his coven. Even though Jesse knows that he could possibly face years underground in jail or even death. Ian has become that important to him. My heart broke for the new lovers and what they knew had to be done. Even though they had planned to come clean, even forces interfered.

This story was remarkable, and lots of love and respect was shown in the writing in this story. It was a powerful read and enjoyed this book immensely.

Daryl plays with fire and gets burned by fate…

Former Primrose Pack member Jason Black happily accepted his role as beta in the new Regent’s Hill pack, knowing that merging the two was the best decision for everyone involved. Daryl Easton is loyal and honest but wary of change. The joining of the two packs wasn’t his preferred outcome, and he’s struggling to see all the newcomers as pack, including those now working alongside him.

When the alpha council proposes a two-week pack-building course to help improve troubled relationships, Jason and Daryl are sent along as backup. It soon becomes clear that the unit members and their betas won’t be the only ones taking part in tasks—Daryl and Jason will have challenges of their own to complete.

With the full moon adding to the rising tension, emotions are volatile, and tempers flare among the unit members. Jason and Daryl become closer than either of them expected, but with such opposing views on relationships, a messy outcome seems inevitable unless Daryl can let go of the past.
