Synopsis
Rumpled tech support Evan Carmichael has a crush on pristine programming supervisor Gavriil Cottan. The whole company knows it. Except Gavriil. As a closet romantic, Evan dreams of declaring his feelings with a grand gesture, something out of the movies he loves.
The company holiday potluck luncheon gives Evan a perfect opportunity. He finds out Gavriil’s favorite dessert and is determined to make an apple sharlotka just like Gavriil’s mother used to make. The only problem is, Evan is a disaster in the kitchen. Can he master the mystery of the sharlotka and the intricacies of the springform pan in time to both woo and wow Gavriil?
Review
Raise your hand if you enjoy forced
company events, otherwise known as “team building exercises.” You know, those things, like holiday
potlucks, that the company you work for gives you absolutely no choice but to
attend.
Yeah, I didn’t think so. Me either.
That’s kind of how Evan feels
when he’s forced to participate in his company’s holiday potluck. Like me, he’d rather go to the store and buy
some cookies or a bag of chips for it. But, see, he kind of has a thing for his
co-worker, Gavriil. And he ends up
finding out out what Gavriil’s favorite dessert is and decides to make that
instead.
Yeah, Evan and I are
identical in the kitchen. Awful! Just awful.
I’ve been known to destroy instant mashed potatoes (don’t ask how, it’s
a talent), and Evan is just as bad. But
he pushes through because this is the dessert Gavriil’s mother used to make,
and Evan wants to make a good impression.
I can relate to that too. We all
want to do something that would make ourselves stand out from the rest, and the
effort Evan takes to show Gavriil he’s interested is really sweet.
Sweet just like the rest of this
story.
