Synopsis

A second chance born of love.

Pat Corrigan and Edgerton "Edge" Winters were ready to start a family--or so Pat thought. At the last minute, Edge got cold feet and fled. Pat didn't bother telling him the conception had already gone through and little Emma was on her way. He didn't want a relationship based on obligation. He'd rather raise his daughter on his own.

Nine years later, Emma and her Poppy are doing fine. Edge isn't. He realizes what he threw away by leaving, and he's back to turn his life around and reclaim his family. It'll take a lot to prove to Pat that he's a new man, and even if Edge succeeds, the secret Pat has hidden for years might shatter their dreams all over again.

Review

The Dreamspun Desires series is one of those things that brings me back to when I was just 16 years old reading my grandmother's Harlequin books, but better because of the level of emotion that goes into nearly every one of them. And this one was no different.

Andrew wrote a sweet but heart breaking story of a second chance love. Edge walked out of Pat’s life years ago leaving him broken and alone. For the last 9 years of that time he has raised and loved Emma, his daughter, with everything he had. Determined to at least live out part of his dream life. Only in the cold light of day when those fantasies turn to dust Pat also carries a secret, one that weighs on him heavily, and that might come to light now that Edge is back and wanting more than ever to be Pat’s everything again. Pat has some hard choices to make, ones that might make him lose all just when everything starts to fit together.

This is a super mushy heart type of story. Pat doesn’t easily forgive Edge, as he shouldn’t of course, but they have a sorta slow burn story with affection and heartwarming Edge and Emma moments. As much as I loved Pat’s mom it wasn’t until the second half of the story that I felt their storyline did anything for the book, but by that time it gave me better understanding of Pat. Emma was the star of the story with her super cute banter which was totally one of those “kids say the darndest things” moments and her love of Edge’s stories.

Edge was not as in depth of a character as Pat was, that might be because Pat had all this baggage to unpack slowly, his thoughts and feeling were given a front row seat. But he was all the wonderful things that Pat needed, just wish we could’ve had more but since it was all from Pat’s POV, we didn’t.

Overall a good read and a fun story but with any book in this series you need a sweet tooth to read it.
