BLURB

I want to tell you my story, but… you’re not going to like it.

This hellish thing that the world has become, will consume us.

When everything you know is turned around, what will you do?

I ask you not to judge me, but to listen to my story.

It’s not pretty, but it is the only one I have to tell.

I… We… Us ... have lost so much.

And when you have lost hope, what truly is there left worth fighting for?

For it is not life, since I am already dead inside, buried away in this chaos that has become the world.

"The fuck is happening in the world?" Dale said, slamming the stack of beer on the bar’s countertop. "Bitch almost ran me over!" His face was flushed red, breath coming out in wheezing pants.

"Shit, you okay?" Randy’s deep voice rumbled from under the bar. Dale could only see Randy’s freshly shaven scalp shining from the overhead light. The fucker didn’t even look up.

"Asshole!"

“Dale!” Randy shot up. “I’m being a dick, sorry." He reached across the bar, grabbed Dale by the shirt and smashed his lips to his fiancé’s.

“You better be,” Dale grunted, his head dancing a mile after that kiss. “You’re well on your way to being tied to a Saint Andrew’s cross tonight.”
The fingers clasping Dale’s shirt, tightened their grip.

“Ya think, Pappa Bear?” Randy growled.

“And earning you a whipping with the bullwhip,” Dale growled right back.

The two studied each other for a long moment. Their dynamic of both being dominants always gave rise for this banter. Both knew they needed a submissive soon, or they’d be looking at becoming a switch couple.

“You better go get them beers before your ‘barboys’ come in and wiggle their butts,” Randy said, the first to break eye contact. “I saw how you’ve been checking out their asses. You got an eye on one of ‘em?”

“Yeah, looking right at the bastard.” Dale couldn't help but chuckle as the colossal Randy blushed. Somehow, over the past twenty-five years, he still had it in him to make the ex-army captain turn blood red in the face.

“Get!” Randy thundered, smiling as he ducked under the bar to take stock.
***

Randy had just heard the front door close when the scream came from the back. It gave him such a jolt, he smacked his head against the counter. “Fuck!” He rubbed the spot, feeling for blood. Another scream, this one different, and this time more than one. It wasn’t just a shout from the drunk beggar they allowed to sleep in the back alley of the bar. This scream had Randy clenching his jaw, and his spine turning to liquid ice.

Randy stepped out from behind the bar, moving to the back doors; he could hear the commotion of a struggle.

Slowly he pushed open the door, only accessible from inside. The first thing he saw was the spurt of blood flying through the air from a man’s mouth. The man’s head smacking right into the concrete brick wall with a loud crack.

Randy's eyes bulged in their sockets.

Black blood seeped from the man’s temple, eyes deranged and milky in appearance, his skin pale like baby powder. The charcoal gray suit was ripped and torn like someone had taken a razor blade to him. A cascade of black blood oozed from the gushing wound in his throat where his cricoid cartilage was exposed. Drunkenly the man stood, swaying, and pulled back his lips to display bloodied and black sludge-covered teeth. A growl passed the man’s mouth, causing more of the black slush to drip like thick sap from the neck wound.

Randy turned, running to the bar and leaving the back door to slam shut. He had barely reached the bar’s counter when another yell came. Panicked, adrenaline pumping, he didn’t give a fuck for military training right then. With shaky hands Randy grabbed the handgun strapped to the underside of the counter. His body trembled as he made his way outside, gun raised and ready.

He didn’t shoot, couldn't fucking move from the scene playing out before him. Three of them had Johnny-man on the ground, fingers clawing into his stomach. Another chewed on the man’s left shoulder. Through it all the beggar kept yelling, blood spilling from his mouth, “Help me, somebody, please help me!”

Randy just stood there. His mind numb as the fuckers feasted and tore Johnny-man in half. Guts snapped like fragile strings.

The snarl in his right ear made him turn, mouth still open from disbelief. One of those things stood inches from him. Randy just reacted, headbutting the sickly looking woman with half a face, pretty sure he pissed himself too.

His mind was in panic mode, still trying to rationalize that which shouldn't be fucking happening— human cannibals. The woman-thing had stumbled backwards, grunting and growling. Randy's head shot up seeing a pack of them—yeah, that’d be a whole motherfucking pack— running towards him.

He’d seen the shows, read some books but this shit was surreal. Zombies were not that fast. But these—

It was a lightning flash in his brain and thank the universe it came.

Dale.

The pack of things were already closing in, and the female one was on her feet, when Randy stepped back into the bar and slammed the door shut. He had barely placed the bolt in place when the bang came, rattling the door and causing him to jump back. His heart was a fucking demon punching a hole in his chest.

The front door opened, bringing with it a chaotic symphony of the world outside; screams, car crashes, gun fires and God knew what else. All that ricocheted through Randy's mind was that one of them had made it into the bar. He turned, the glare of sunlight blinding his view, the black shape swaying drunkenly towards him.

Randy pulled the trigger.
***

The shot ripped through Dale’s chest. He felt nothing, and then came a vicious pain. His legs gave out on him, crippling him to the cold, hard floor of the club.

Hands were there to catch him. Warm hands. Strong hands. Familiar hands. Hands that could inflict pain and make love in the same touch.

Dale shook as Randy held him, something wet dripping on his cheek. Darkness loomed around the corners of his eyes, his breath thin. Weakly he reached up, blindly placing a palm against a scruffy cheek, soaked with tears and mucus.

He had to say something, but what the hell did you say to the man that had come to mean the world to him?

Dale smiled. Put every ounce of love in that fucking smile.

“I will always love you, Randy Blackheart.”

The world went black.

 About Wulf Francu Godgluck

They come to me in the night, creeping into my head. Their voices are all different, their stories all dissimilar, but they keep saying the same thing...

“Show us, tell us to the world. Bring us into yours, and make us known.”

Then I sit and they take over. They tell their tales of love, loss and sinister misfortune, not all of them get a happy ending, but they are pleased when their part is written.

I sometimes find myself lost in my own mind; a world very similar to our own yet so different. Things don't go bump in the night—they squeal, and crawl under your skin, making you grind your teeth, and your stomach turn over and put your nerves on edge. Then there's the drama. Oh, the drama!

I write because I must! There is so much inside of me that needs to get out. So many stories to tell, characters that want to be heard, and hearts lost and won. Words and art are my way of bringing my world to others. I enjoy telling tales of the human condition but working in elements of the supernatural. Werewolves, Vampires, Zombies, Witches and the unexplainable all set against the human world or worlds of their own.

Wulf Francú Godgluck hails from South Africa. His work is not for the faint-hearted! In his books, you'll find... all the beasties with their nasty claws and teeth, and some you didn't even know existed. But the monsters aren't all real. Some live inside us. Who knows what he will make you discover about yourself, lurking in your heart, behind the closed walls of the deep, black recesses where no light penetrates? Wulf will steal your heart and never give it back. More than likely, he'll pin it to the wall with a bobby pin and sit there sipping his tea while you writhe and squeal on the floor... STILL sure you want to read a Wulf Godgluck book?

Author: Jex Lane
Book: Sire
Series: Beautiful Monsters #2
Self-Published
Publication Date: October 20, 2016
Length: 369 pages

Synopsis

“Because love is the easiest way to control someone and I needed a way to control you.”

Still mending a broken heart, Matthew has spent a year avoiding incubi and their army of hunters.

With the incubi armies closing in, a mysterious protector appears, swearing his fealty to Matthew. He’s ancient, seductive, and cursed—unable to explain why he keeps calling Matthew ‘my prince’.

Review

So book 2 of Jex Lane’s Beautiful Monster’s series is just as amazing, powerful, and emotional as the first book.  The story Jex is weaving is intricate. As always we are following Matthew. You know at this point what is sort of going on with him. We know the black and white of what he is just not how deep it goes. (I won’t spoil anything you’ll have to go read book 1 and 2)
We see a lot of familiar faces from book 1 in this one and meet some fabulously new ones.  It’s not giving anything away to say that two of the newbies of this game are Sam and Devak. You will love them… You will. You won’t be able not to. And the who they are and what they can do just shows you how amazing the author’s imagination is.
Sire takes Matthew on a different journey. It’s hard for Matthew because of what he wants and what others want from him. Matthew is beyond special and as a reader I’ve become invested in him. I cry for him, I wince when he gets hurt, I’m in awe of his abilities. The mother in me wants to grab him and put him in my pocket and keep him safe forever.
There’s a lot of twists and turns and you will scratch your head at times wondering what exactly is the end game here. You won’t know who to trust. You won’t know who will live and die.
One thing Jex Lane has made me realize is that you need to stay on your toes. Expect the unexpected, and for the love of God breathe.
This series is truly brilliant, well thought out, organized, the characters are fleshed out and it flows wonderfully. There’s deep emotion, action, and high suspense in this book, in this whole series.
I realize I am going to be stalking this author for what is to happen next. You can’t read this series and not become consumed by it.
Utterly outstanding!

Review

Historical romance is a touch and go for me. I find myself being very critical. If I don't know the time frame I'll look things up. Sometimes it's like a research project for me.I also had never read Christina Pilz before so there was that excitement of discovering a new author.

Christina's writing style was easy to follow and her grasp of writing historicals is not only good but actually enchanting. She nailed all the emotions  Oliver and Jack were going through.

This is a long story and there were times where is dragged a little, but there's a great level of suspense in Out in the World. Oliver and Jack are on the run desperate to find a place for themselves, reconcile and put ghosts to bed.

Out in the World was very entertaining, emotional, and foreboding at times; the way many gay historicals often are with the uncertainty of their love and society. Good read.

Review

On the Isle of Dogs I found to be much darker than the book before. It was very depressing at parts. Granted these guys aren't in the best place in their lives when it starts out so that sets the tone of the book.

This book is also a very long book and normally I adore long novels but there were times in this story where it felt repetitive and sometimes one scene was over saturated. A few times I felt that a scene was longer than it needed to be where others were rushed and I wanted more of that moment.

Oliver and Jack are suffering. They live in a horrid place infested with bugs and other issues. Jack goes back to thieving and Oliver is a bartender. Both are trying to get by and survive. Oliver is really having a mental battle in his head. He's thirsty for self retribution.

When they are kidnapped it just adds to the layers upon layers of drama these two face. I even said, "Oh come on give these poor guys a break!" Jack is hurt and both men are left for dead. It was heartbreaking!

The author isn't kind to these boys. The writing style, again, was terrific I would say the other book was more my cup of tea.

Saturday Spotlight: Morningstar Ashley ~Guest Post #Giveaway

Morningstar at GRL

When GRL registration first opened up this year I desperately wanted to go! I wanted to go meet my favorite authors (rockstars), my awesome online friends (crazy people who make me happy), and let’s be honest probably stand in the corner terrified of making a fool of myself hoping no one would see me. But I was determined, so I registered! What ended up happening was more than I could’ve hoped for.

First, I met this awesome woman Alissa in the Houston airport. And it’s a funny story we basically told anyone that would talk to us. She is the one friend I can say that we were brought together by Donald Trump. Yup that wasn’t a typo. Donald Trump has done one good thing this year and brought me a new wonderful friend that I talked to for hours sitting waiting for our plane and then the whole flight. THEN we find out we were flying back to Houston together! This was, to me, an ice breaker. My concern about the people was eased by meeting this fantastic friend even before arriving at GRL.

The super organizers of GRL picked a perfect venue which makes me glad that this one was my first one. The lobby was perfect for large gatherings of people wanting to just sit and hang out. Some authors chose this as a way to get their book groups together and just talk, much like we all do in the closed author's groups but in person, which is sooooo much better! The Q&A’s were perfect for answering those all important questions you never thought you’d get to ask, author readings were great for hearing their characters and story in their own voices or like in the case of Devon McCormack get a comedy show to go with along with that, and panels were where readers and other authors learned different things about the author’s process of writing their books.

I met so many people I am Facebook friends with that I am, still, in actual amazement about it! I mean we sat at every meal and talked about characters and stories and which author you should try and who you’ve never heard of that it was like being in book heaven. (I may had even gushed to my people about another one of my friend’s books since I love her stories so much and it's how we became friends.) Never have I ever been able to do that before. And these people; they all get it! They get how characters can change us, how we can connect with them on an emotional level that can scare even us, how the stories that the rockstars of ours write can be eye opening, or laugh until you cry escapism, or so full of mushy love stuff that your teeth hurt. It was the best feeling of being enveloped in this family of people that make you feel welcome and wanted.

Then came the nights! The nights of dinners out in Kansas City trying that all important KC BBQ, walking Main Street on a gorgeous night, and again just hanging out with friends. BUT there were also the dances and the costume party which let me tell you all were so much fun. The Friday night dance could've used some more current music but you get some drinks in you and you’ll dance anyway! And I love the bartender we had, Randy Gersham, because I had no idea what I wanted to drink (not a big drinker) so he asked me some questions and made me a drink that was YUMMY! And I drank that drink at every nighttime event after; and the crazy awesome people I was with actually were silly enough to name the drink after me and then tell people that so they then ordered the drink with that name. I shake my head and laugh every time I think of it! Oh and there were some photos “leaked” from that night I would like to say I am innocent in all things and Devon and Riley are bad influences ;)

Oh the costume party I mentioned...holy wow did people really go all out on that! I have seen the best costumes at that get together than I have at Halloween! It was amazing to see and it made the party all that more fun.  It was a great event to end a perfect and fun filled week!

I was so sad to leave but beyond happy that I went. I can’t wait until next year. And that right there told me that as much as this whole experience had been so much fun it also helped me tell my innate shyness to shush these people are great so I have nothing to worry about.

If you are on the fence about going next year or anytime, take it from this shy girl, it was well worth the trip!
