Review

This is book two in Sue Brown's J.T's Bar series. I will start off by saying you do need to read book one Alpha Barman first. With so many characters in play with this series it can get confusing so follow along.

Alpha Chef has action and questions just like in book one. In this book we are dealing with Greg, Mitch's estranged brother. Of course his arrival brings on loads of emotion, more questions, confusion, and suspense.

There were some good action scenes in this story which I loved. I was leary about certain characters and had serious issues with Colm Riordan... You will too.

The re-connection of Mitch and Greg seemed to be the main focus of this book. While it is a romance for Greg and Colm, throughout the entire story it felt like the brothers were truly the stars of this show. 

Colm and Greg have a history and honestly it was the saving grace of their relationship. They were very wam bam and now I love you which I didn't adore all that much but I kept in mind that they have known each other awhile. I would have loved to see more build up with these two to grasp their chemistry.

Loved the brothers and all the black OPs guys. Very entertaining, angst-free, and enjoyable.

I want to be honest here, the title of this book made me go back and forth on reading it. But the blurb sold me on it. This is a story about a rich Lord and a hunky fireman. That’s what got my attention too.

Dale has moved across the country because his then boyfriend was cheating on him. Ben is a Lord who starts off in a relationship with a woman. Then these two meet. There’s accusations of negligence, fires, crashing into poles, more fire, a lot of flirting, a slow burn, and a happily ever after.

This is a very low angst love story. Minimal suspense and I thought there was a mystery but there wasn’t. We are following these two guys seeing how they can make it work. A Lord and a Fireman is an odd mix but when these two are together there sure are flames.

What I loved was the chemistry between the MC’s. I believed each moment they were together was genuine. The communication was good and they were believable on a mental and physical level. I loved them. I also LOVED the secondary characters and Dale’s porn worthy dreams of the hot butler and the burly gardener. Hilarious.

I wished we saw more closure on the ex-girlfriend’s father. I thought the story was going somewhere with that but it really didn’t and I would have loved more there. I also wasn’t a fan of the abrupt ending. It was so sudden I thought my kindle screwed up somewhere and I was missing pages. I would have loved either an epilogue or a closing chapter.

It was enjoyable and sweet and if that’s your cuppa tea then go for it.

 Review

Alpha Barman I THINK is book one of what will be a series for Sue Brown. There are a lot of characters in play in this story. The story starts off with a wow and an OMG. Immediately we are assaulted with the feels. JT (Jake) is moving on from his Ops job to Wyoming where he opens a bar with a guy named Howie. But when he leaves he tells no one but his boss and leaves his lover behind and unknowing. OUCH!

That’s as much of the story as I will summarize. There’s a mystery to this story. Not a whodunit but more of a “did the guy we get actually do it?” I say that because there’s no way you could figure out the outcome with clues given if I’m being honest here. 

There’s a lot of testosterone in this book but with a title like Alpha Barman you sort of expect it. It’s light on the sex though so if that’s what you read alpha books for you won’t get that here. But the sexual tension is very thick in this story. 

Mitch, Jake’s ex-lover, and his team come to Wyoming for Jake’s protection (I won’t tell you why) and of course seeing his old team and ex after disappearing on them, it was sure to cause some drama. Serious drama. I found the dialog within the team and Jake and Mitch to be really well written. I ADORED Howie. He’s a gentle giant that one and I’d love to see him get his own book. I’d also love to see Lukas get his own book too (wink wink nudge nudge, Sue)

Alpha Barman really focuses on the story and emotions more than anything else. I thought I’d be upset with the lack of alpha sex but Sue really did compensate with great story and awesome characters.

I really look forward to another book in this series.

Crossovers - Sue Brown

Sorry, so not sorry, dear readers. Yes, I do have numerous cross-overs in my books, and I love it when people spot them.

The thing about my boys and their extended families, is they never really shut up. Even after their love story is written, they still pop up to tell me how they are doing. Life doesn’t stop so why should they?

The Isle books are probably the centre of my Brit-based universe, but the Lyon Road vet books run a close second, and they have crossed over (in Island Doctor). A cousin of Sam Owens appeared in A Cock in the Window, and now, Jesse and Dan appear in Morning My Angel.

One of the things I had drummed into me is that readers get fed up with the same characters. I can understand this in romance. If you revel in the thrill of the initial meet and development of the relationship, then ‘real life’ can get tedious. You have to think of things to happen ‘to’ them, and how often has the misunderstanding/painful split trope been used? If the focus of your plot is something other than romance, like a crime-fighting duo, then it’s easier to keep writing about them. Think of Charlie Cochrane’s exquisite Cambridge Fellows mysteries.

At the moment I don’t have a crime-fighting duo, but I have plans… *nods*. Watch this space. It may be a crossover.

Review

I have to say first and foremost that this story will keep you on your toes. There’s mysteries left and right with this book. But, I’m going to talk about Josh for a moment. He was absolutely my favorite character in this. Yes, it’s told in his POV so that puts him at an advantage but still… He’s witty, perfect dry humor, good looking, just brilliant. I really feel it was wise to keep it in his POV and not head hop. Though I will say I wanted to get into Cal’s head a time or two. But, again, knowing what I know now; it was smart of the author to do it how she did.

Josh has this internet love, Charlie, and the Morning My Angel is what Charlie says to him, via IM, every day in greeting. I thought the Angel and Charlie nicknames were adorable! When Josh is told to pack up and head to London with his bodyguards Gil and Landry he does. One of the head guys has gone missing and even though this isn’t really what Josh does for a living, he goes.

This story had a tremendous amount of bumps in the road throwing you off course many times. The whodunit, I felt, was far too tricky to figure out and when the book ended and the bad people/person revealed I really got the impression that you weren’t really supposed to have figured it out. I’m usually good at the clues and always get it but this time was a no go in that department. I went back a few times after it ended to see where I missed the clues but, no, not really there. So, if that was the author’s intention than bravo. She got me. 

The secondary characters were perfect and each filled their role perfectly. Jesse is fabulous and I would LOVE to read his story. No doubt he has an incredible one.

All in all I liked this story a lot. It was engaging and exciting and romantic in between all the gun fights, car chases, and bombs.
