Synopsis

When life gives Kuro Jenkins lemons, he wants to make ponzu to serve at his Los Angeles ramen shop.

Instead he’s dodging bullets and wondering how the hell he ended up back in the black ops lifestyle he left behind. After rescuing former child star Trey Bishop from a pair of murderous thugs, he reluctantly picks his guns up again. It seems trouble isn’t done with Trey, and Kuro can’t quite let go… of either danger or Trey.

Trey never denied his life’s downward spiral was his own fault. After stints in rehab, he’s finally shaken off his Hollywood bad-boy lifestyle, but not his reputation. The destruction of his career and relationships was epic, and no one trusts anything he says, including the LAPD. When two men dragging a dead body spot him on a late-night run, then try to murder him, Trey is thankful for the tall, dark, and deadly ramen shop owner not just for rescuing him, but also for believing him.

Now caught in a web of murders and lies, Trey knows someone wants him dead, and the only one on his side is a man with dark secrets. Trey hopes Kuro will stick around to see what the future holds for them once the dust settles, but from the looks of things, neither of them may survive to find out.

Review

Rhys Ford’s new book, Ramen Assassin, is an action packed, fun, suspense filled book that is a fantastic introduction to what I’m sure will be an amazing series. I mean this is Rhys Ford we’re talking about, so that’s pretty much a given, but Ramen Assassin shows what she does best. Suspense and mystery mixed with romance and characters that are so well written, you feel like you’ve known them for years.
Trey Bishop is a washed-up actor who finds himself the unwitting witness to a murder. He gets himself mixed up in more than just crime and mayhem; he manages to land smack dab in the middle of Kuro Jenkins’s life as well. The two form an instant, if reluctant, connection, and from that point on, well things go topsy turvy for the both of them.
Kuro might own the local ramen shop that Trey happens to frequent, but he’s no stranger to death and chaos thanks to his special ops background. He is also infatuated with the sexy Trey, and when bullets start flying toward Trey after he witnesses a murder, it’s Kuro who saves the day. From then on, the two find themselves in the midst of a mystery that might take them both down if they’re not careful. Of course, there’s more to the book than solving the mystery of who might want Trey dead, there’s also a slow burn romance between Kuro and Trey that was just positively lovely. Nothing forced or rushed here, these two men take their time to really get to know one another and I loved every moment of it. The emotions and the vulnerability Kuro and Trey show one another made my heart hurt and then swoon because, man, there’s some deep stuff that Rhys deftly depicts.
I really enjoyed Ramen Assassin, and I’m so looking forward to the next book in the series. I can’t wait to see what comes next for Kuro and Trey and what other shenanigans they get mixed up in!
