Synopsis

It's time to travel with James and Malcolm through their twenty year history as they battle each other and struggle to hold on to a lifetime of secrets.
James
Never good enough.
Not the real son.
I will prove him wrong—prove everyone wrong.
I am someone.
I will succeed.
I don’t need my brother to help me.
I don't need anyone.
My enemy holds my secret.
He teases me.
Taunts me.
Follows me with his eyes.
Our hot, angry kisses keep me up at night.
I don’t want him.
I hate him.
But I can’t stop thinking about him.
That there's more to him
I want to discover him.
The truth is unexpected.
My enemy might not only be my friend but the love I never thought to have.

Malcolm
Live, love, laugh.
Life is too short to worry when you don’t know how long you’ve got.
I want every day to be my best.
Like it’s my last.
My friends see what I let them.
Not the real me.
Only one man has ever crawled beneath my skin.
He drives me crazy.
Makes me wild.
Makes me care.
A night of bad decisions changes the course of my life.
Everything I've known no longer makes sense.
My enemy now stands by my side.
I’m no longer running.
I want to stay.
I want a future.
Hate has changed to something new and wonderful.
Something terrifying.
Uncontrollable.
Love.

Review

James and Malcolm are book four in Felice Stevens' Man Up series, but are first in my heart! You know how oftentimes in a series, you’ll meet a character that you just zoom in on? For me, it was both James and Malcolm. I wanted to know what made them tick, what made them bicker so much and wow...it was so worth the wait.

James comes off in previous books, as this aloof tough guy who can’t seem to not show his heart.  We learn though that we’ve only scratched the service with this man. I wanted to kiss his boo boo’s better and step back before he scorched me all at the same time. This man who exudes so much control that when he lets lose, he could start a fire. His emotions, his desires, his wants and needs are all wrapped up so tightly. And if ever a man needed unwrapping, it’s James. Enter Malcolm.

Malcolm is a man who lives life to the fullest! Takes home a stranger, man or woman? Skydiving? Ski black diamonds? Yes, his answer always seems to be yes! He may not be as tightly wound as James, but that doesn’t mean what you see is what you get. Malcolm sees James and you get the impression that he is often the only person who does. What does he choose to do when he runs into “Jamie”? He torments, aggravates and flirts...all of which push James’s boundaries and his limits. These two are like magnets that keep circling around each other, each waiting to see who will flip first and end this battle once and for all.

James and Malcolm's story, their past and their future are filled with so much. Can the two boys who almost became friends find their way to being so much more to each other? Can they survive what will happen if they don’t...if they do? You’ll have to read and see!! It’s such a great story from first word to last and I hope you’ll fall for these men as much as I did. Man Up is a fabulous series and one I highly recommend starting from the beginning. You won’t be disappointed stepping into this world, it’s so full of love, friendship and so much heart. Happy reading.

Synopsis

Cort
I spent years waiting for someone who never put me first.
He took my love, took me for granted.
Took my heart.
Now I’m on my own.
Living life my way.
The crowd only sees my smile.
Never my loneliness and pain.
I need someone to need me.
When I meet another lost soul my friends try to warn me.
He’s a liar.
A user.
Homeless.
Heartbroken.
He’s all that and more.
He’s everything I’ve ever wanted.

Harlan
I’m king of my world.
Untouchable.
Then it all comes crashing down.
My secrets are exposed.
I’m cut off from my family.
Unrecognizable from the man I used to be.
Barely surviving, living day-to-day and out of control.
Nothing to hold on to.
I let go and fall so far there’s no way up.
Until a cowboy reaches into my darkness and brings me back to the light.
With him I can breathe.
I can be who I am.
Who he needs.
He gives me hope
To find myself.
To find love.

Review

Cort-Unbreakable is book four in Felice Stevens' Man Up series and is now my favorite in the series. Cort is quite simply one of the most genuine, sweet, lovable and sexy men to come across a page in awhile. And he’s an honest to goodness cowboy!

Cort is living in New York after leaving his small town in Texas. He dances at the men’s strip club Man Up and has made a couple very close friends there, friends that he’s watched fall in love recently. He is happy for them, he really is, he’s just lonely. When he meets Harlan, a homeless man, everyone worries that Cort’s sweet nature will be taken advantage of. Maybe it will be, but Cort isn’t going to walk away from a friend in need.

Harlan is not only homeless, but is reeling from everything that has put him on the streets. He once had it all and now he’s stealing cheese and crackers at a book store reading. The friendly cowboy who sneaks him extra snacks and some cash every now and then isn’t supposed to become his friend. When Harlan has nowhere to go, Cort opens his home to him. Soon, Cort is opening his heart too. Harlan has demons he needs to face to be good enough to look himself in the eye, let alone a man as wonderful as Cort. Now comes the part where we see how far two men from such different worlds will work for a friendship that makes sense to no one else. A relationship that may be just what the other has always needed.

I loved this book so much, as I said above, Cort is so special. How often in life do we get the chance to meet someone who is so genuinely good? Felice Stevens pairing him up with a character we’ve met before, someone with seemingly no redeeming qualities was genius. I loved watching the care and effort that went into building this relationship. You’re left realizing that even if they stumble along the way, this bond in truly unbreakable. My favorite so far and I can’t wait to see what comes next.

All the feels!

Random Review: Austin by Felice Stevens #Review #Giveaway

Author: Felice Stevens
Title: Austin
Series: Man Up #1
Self Published
Publication Date: April 2, 2018
Length: 14,000 words

Synopsis

I can make it by myself. The only rules I follow are my own. Love? I learned that lesson the hard and painful way it wasn’t right for me. Sure, sometimes it gets lonely and I wish I had a man to hold. Who’d love me. Want me. Treat me with respect. Yeah, I dance in a club but that doesn’t mean I’m easy. Or a fool. So you, sitting in the back, watching me? I know what you want. You want me. In your bed. Under you. But I say no. It doesn’t matter how many presents you give me.
I’m not falling for you. I know who you are. But you don’t know me. You don’t know Austin.
This is a 14,000 word CLIFFHANGER story. It is a start to a new series, entitled Man Up. The followup book, Rhoades-Undeniable will be released a week after Austin.

Review

First books of new series can be scary  The author needs to introduce you to the main characters and build the world they occupy, and make the reader want to come back for more.  Throw in the fact that the first book is a novella, meaning there are fewer pages to “world build”, and the prospect becomes daunting.  It’s very easy for things to go off the rails very quickly.

Thankfully, that’s not a problem here.  While a relatively short read when compared to her other books, Felice Stevens has done a fantastic job of introducing you to the world the title character, Austin, occupies.  She also gives you just enough information to make you wonder what’s going on with the minor characters and hope they get their own stories (I’m looking at you, Frankie.  There’s somethin’ up there).

“Austin” is also told in first-person, which I believe is a first for Felice.  I love this style because it puts the reader front and center with the main characters instead of feeling like you’re simply observing.  I’m hoping she continues to use this style throughout the rest of the series.

It’s a foregone conclusion that I’ll be reading the rest of the series, and can’t wait for the next installment.
